  • So I really wanted to make a thin portable palette that is not like the Peerless palette though. I wanted a tin. So I was fortunate that Starbucks (Philippines atleast) has this mints tin that is only around 5mm thick and 2.5 x 3.5 inches dimension. I wanted it to fit my leather journal as if there's no palette inside. :) i also used the small cups inside the Pocari Sweat caps. and presto, I now have the ultra thin tin I've been wanting. this doesn't get out of my bag! :)

    You can also try old and unused eyeshadow makeup palettes. They are really thin and small and you'll have really thin pans (round or rectangle) ready. I have an old Ever Bilena eyeshadow makeup palette with 12 pans in it. I turned it to watercolor palette instead. It can fit my jean's pocket. Haha. Oh, and it's also possible to buy empty makeup pans on Shopee or Lazada (with or without case). They are reallyyyy thin.

    You have a very nice travel set, however, any time you use a tin container, for watercolors, you need to either spray it first with a clear coat of acrylic or white acrylic paint as the tin will rust without protection. Hot glue is a great way to adhere pans and still be able to remove them. I also use stick-on magnets, and rubber cement to adhere pans. I use eye-shadow pans, available on Amazon and other sites, which come in a variety of sizes. Like the tin containers, I spray these with white paint so they won't rust. To protect the swatch card, for the palette, I use an inexpensive laminator. A laminator can also be used to make a laminated white card to mix paints in the lid. I also use hot glue to make wells for mixing paint in the palette lids.

    Allen, FYI!.............Look on Etsy and you will find handmade cases from many watercolorists that have tiny, tiny watercolor "pans," that would fit perfectly in your tiny palette. This is just so you can see how tiny these are. You can also buy these pans on line independently from various retailers. If needed ,use a tiny dot of "Blu-Tack," to keep them in place in your mini Starbucks palette. Blu Tack is a putty like substance used to hang things on walls and interestingly enough used as a substitute for kneadable eraser in England.

      Hi Judith. 😊 Yeah. I just checked online and i was surprised. I found these tiny aluminum pans, that i think are for makeups, and would also fit well for my other starucks mint cases. 😊 Thanks for the idea. I wish etsy ships to Philippines, and If yes, i hope it's not too pricey. Ive checked alot of interesting handmade palettes and Watercolors there and theyre all tempting me. 😊 🎨

      @@AllanJayQuesada You are going to be in Maryland this Spring. Have them shipped there and pick them up when you go to the wedding. There are lots of sources at reasonable prices online for long thin pans, square pans, etc. Check and see if someone can receive the order for you and you should be all set. Make sure that you open it and use the set before leaving the states. I assume that will help bypass import taxes at customs...........Used is used.

    This is ingenious!! I'm going to have to try this (or at least a twist on it). I'm always trying to think of ways to make pocket palettes. My most portable one so far has been with a small cheap eyeshadow palette. This would be way more sturdy though cause the thin plastic lid on mine cracked.
    I've also used crushed ice cube trays since the cubes are so small I could fit 25 colors in a square little mint tin.

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  4 роки тому +1

      oh hi! Yeah I have seen some artists use eye shadow palettes as recycled palettes which was cool and environment friendly. I wished i had make ups too, so i can use the palettes for portable palette. I was so glad i found this thin tin to fit into my sketchbook. and also the caps from the electrolyte drink. Let me know once youve made your own. :)

  • @tmp0922

    Very nicely done I think you could also be able to fit the small shallow pans of empty make up (eye shadow tins) you can get empty one in makeup stores or just buy a cheap set and just empty them out.and I do believe they should fit (I think you may be able to fit 15 in that tin). If you spray an enamel white paint in the top of the tin ( or spay the entire tin you will prevent rust from ruining your hard work.

      I also own w&n pro and it's also good. 😊 Depending on your style and depending on which w&n set you are getting. What i dont like about their small sets (12-14color sets) is that they include bothe yellow ochre and raw sienna that looks very much the same. You can check my review of that too. W&n have pretty containers as well, but the free brushes are not that useable. 😊 Shinhan PWC on the other hand is generally less transparent than w&n but is as vibrant or even more. In the set that i made for sale {same with my previous giveaway), i chose single pigment colors and mostly transparent colors to maintain the watercolor advantage. Pwc has 3 exceptionally expensive colors, (750php pero 15ml tube), and 2 are included in my pwc set, the Cerulean blue (not the hue) and the cobalt green. 😊 🎨
