Danelectro's 1960's Big Sitar Reissue. Three pickups: bridge, neck and mini-harp, each with their own volume and tone controls. Special bridge for the sitar buzz; mini-harp/sympathetic strings for the odd glissando. I've tuned the mini-harp to a D7sus chord and the six strings to Drop D. These are a lot of fun, especially good with dollops of time effects for some ambient fun.
For this demo I used a Mesa Triaxis Clean channel model with plenty of Gilmour-esque dual delay and a 'nimbostratus' reverb algorithm. All Axe-FX III Turbo.
This is the last of roughly 3000 videos that I'll make at the current address. We're moving next week and there will be a new workspace for me that will require some set-up when I have time off the road. I intend to resume video making around August some time. I thank each and every one of you for your support for my little channel over the last 15 years. There is more to come.
Tuning: Drop D
Next Tuning: BAGDAD
Well played!
Finally someone who can do this instrument justice ⚖️😳🎶🤘❤️
Alot of people did.
I see a Sitar
and I want one for myself. 1:50
Excellent selection of appropriate riffs to demonstrate it, mind you, it doesn’t hurt to have someone with ‘god-level’ guitar skills playing it
It's. a fantastic sounding instrument, but did anyone see the specs. Plywood, and hardboard, Pau ferro. It's like Fender, and Gibson had a cost cutting baby.
That was an excellent demonstration of the Sitar! It's an amazing instrument.
How do you even get strings for that mini-harp? How long does it take to restring it? How do you tune it? I have so many questions.
The originals were made from the dreadlock fibers of and Indian mountain top guru but I’m sure someone has started mass producing synthetics by now
I'm suprised how much it sounds like an acoustic sitar. These were played on a lot of 60s tunes I know and two in particular that stand out are Joe South The Games People Play and then again Joe South's playing on Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools.
Good luck with the move, mate. Look forward to when you get settled and back up making videos. Cheers from USA
I CAN ALMOST SMELL THE INCENSE LOL
how can i not buy this?
if you had no money enough, just like me
It’s like the harpsichord of the string world!
Wow! Very trippy sounds!
Anoushka Shankar would love to play with you live ❤
When I here this instrument it screams the Party with Peter Sellers.
I wonder when anyone is going to have these in stock?
0:22 Full-hollow body construction??? wtf
How the hell did you tune the drone strings? I have one of these....it does transport you to nother time and place
Thanks for this video, Brett. This sounds fantastic. I have never played a sitar guitar, but I have always wanted one since hearing them used to great effect than by The Mission in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I hear tell that they're not easy to play. However, I'll have to try one. Thank you again!
Great video, Brett. And good luck with the move.
I really want to get one of these! I can't even play guitar but I want to learn on this. So I can play "Last Train Home". This was awesome too. Thanks for the inspiration 😸👍
Just be aware, you need an amp and a delay/reverb pedal to get that sound like in the video. Or a guitar plugin/software on your computer if you don´t want to go with an amp. Other option, if you have already a electric guitar (plus amp or plugin) you could go with a sitar pedal. But its all about a delay/reverb or at least a hall effect otherwise it sounds quite boring. And hey, go for it! Don´t have to play as good as in the video. With eastern style music (Phrygian scale) you can noodle as a beginner and you will love it!
I'M WAITING FOR GIBSON TO MAKE A MODEL OUT OF AN SG LOL
I just got one of these for free in a garage. No idea what it was, and the piece at the top that lines up the strings is gone
Is that drop D? What's it like in dadgad?
Great, Brett! Getting some Tea Party/Jeff Martin vibes. Love the backdrop btw.
Right? Love it. Big Tea Party / Jeff Martin Fan here ;-) I want one of these. Cool Stuff.
Mate, when you said you were moving... ya weren't joking!!
Sounded great, keep hydrated!👍
Great playing and demo Brett!!!
❤️🙏🏻🕊🌿🌻🕯🪶🎼🎸
How are you get so big in the desert?
インドを思い出します😊👍
ギターでは無く、民族系の音なので
使う人には、凄く良いですね。
Best demo ever! 🙏🏻❤
I want one now
Now I want one! Damn! Thanks Brett! 😁🤘🤘
i'd love to have one. i don't know how many times i'd actually play it, mind. great to have in the arsenal, though.
DUDE!!!! That is friggin' COOL!!!!!👍👍
Sounds amazing 👏 🤩
Nice tuning on the sympathetic strings
Is there a LEFTY version...?
Oh! So berry gud! 👳🏾♂️
What effects pedal are you using?
Thanks, Brett! It was worth watching just to see your smiles at the end. Great demo.
I want this for my church band
Ok, now I want one...hehe. Really nice.
Wow, unbelievably awesome!
Nice
How do you tune the drone strings?
Oh, this is bliss!
I've always wanted one, nice to see them reissued.
They'd be great to muck around on, but how practical in a band situation?
I agree tho, they sound brilliant!
Top
I love this one! 😁
I used to play 1 years ago I enjoyed droning the LO E and playing rifts around it if you do another one of these videos try riding the LO E drone
Yep, she love’s some Low E to keep it grounded. Traditionally, there’d be a tanpura adding a harmonic drone elsewhere in the Indian ensemble 😊👍
I want to hear it through an Electro Harmonix Ravish Sitar pedal! 👳♀️
Do you want the galaxy to implode? That's crazy talk!
