Your voice is so calming. The tutorial is very informative.
Asmr-esque
I let out the most happy sound following along and understanding the first try lol. I'm usually slow to comprehend instructions so this tutorial was wonderfully clear. 💕
Glad I could help pop tart!
I am the beginner for embroidery. Firstly, I bought a basic embroidery book to read and tried some DIY. Now I am so addicted to embroidery and want to start something new. I found your video is very easy to understand and very informative.Thank you from Thailand ^^
Thank you Rapunzel2524 from Thailand, glad you are finding useful! We've got lot's of videos so keep watching!
I’ve always wanted to bead this video is very helpful thank you so much! I think it’s inspiring me and teaching me !! Keep up the cool awesome work
That was really helpful, thank you. I have sewn lots of beads onto cross stitch projects but I have some straight beading to do and this was just what I needed to see.
So clear and informative. I now feel confident I can stitch beads on correctly. Also relaxing to watch!

Yes very good video! Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
I inherited all of my late aunts floss and yarns. I have a few of her pictures and there is even one hanging on my granddaughters wall. I wish she had lived to watch and enjoy this site.
Thank you for the bead education. I really needed it.
Wonderful tutorial! Great to see the different methods for securing beads onto fabric. Super helpful with both closeup and distant views. Your directions and detailed explanation are easy to understand, and your calm voice makes it a pleasure to listen to you. I've decided to learn the craft of fabric beading and after your help I can now get started with more confidence on making my project. I'm looking forward to viewing your other videos. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!
I want to work with gum
Thank you! Recently thrifted a beautiful skirt and was sad that the beads were falling off, glad I could save it!
Excellent instruction. Clear and straightforward. Very pleasant to watch!
Thank you James!
Thank you so clear and easy to understand! It takes me a while to get the hang of things but I got this first time thanks to you :)
Thanks Sheridan, we have more bead videos in the editing room so keep an eye out for those!
Thank you for your time to make this video. It is very helpful!
Very clear instruction - thank you! I searched for how to attach seed beads. I’ll watch more of your instructional videos for sure.
You do such a good job explaining .
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you 😊
What an amazingly beautiful video - and SO helpful!! Im a 'hobby seamstress', and my current project is sewing a christening dress. Now the dress is pretty much done, but the 'icing on the cake' is sewing a lot of glass beads on lacedecorations, which i have never done before - so, this video was truly a lifesaver. Thank you :)
It sounds beauitful!
Excellent and very helpful demonstration, Sarah. You answered numerous question I've had for a long time.
Wonderful tutorial and a lovely voice.
This is so cool! I've never tried any type of embroidery before. I want to spice up my swimsuit, and I thought a beaded border would potentially work. :)
I have just found this tutorial about applying seed beads ... just what I wanted to see nice and easy to understand. Thank you :)
Very nice and clear instructions with great video as well. Thank you!
Thank you I’m gonna try this other one to thank you for showing me
🇦🇺🇦🇺Beautiful beautiful beautiful …. Thanks .. LOVE the way you finish things off … so secure.
Brilliantly clear tutorial, thank you so much...just what i wanted to see nice and easy to understand
Thank you for your kind comments Wompherky Phyllei!
Thank you! So informative and well presented! I’m gathering information before beading a handbag which I intend to make.😊
Thank you greetings from Slovenia 👋🏼🎈
Thank you so much I feel so much more confident that I will pursue and perfect this in no time!
Excellent tutorial. Saved to my likes for reference
Love this!!! I just found a few boxes in my mom's stash from the days when she had sequins and beads in her stores (in late 50's very early 60's) and was wondering what to do with them. I've been thinking of putting together a book to memorialize all the things she had in the store ( a fabric/notions store where she also made wedding dresses and clothing for her clientele) I am definitely going to give this a try. I also remember the twobl beaded outfits she made us for the Polish parade. Every year I was excited to wear it!!! The bolero was beaded, the skirt was decorated with different colored ribbons and of course my favorite puffy blouse. Sadly, I only have a black and white picture that you can barely see the beautiful embroidery.
Excellent video! Thank you! 😘
Thank you!
This was exactly what I needed, thanks for the informative video!
Thank you for tutorial. What should I do if I have 1 mm preciosa beads and no needle go thrue with double threat ? I can't find such tiny needle at any shop.
I was looking for a tutorial about sewing seed beads, and this one is nice! I plan to sew some beads to my veil.
Use a strong thread Darth, you want them nice and secure for your big day!
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery I have some bead thread, and I'm doubling it up :) This is my first time beading anything, but it's just to add a hint of sparkle to the edges.
Brilliantly clear tutorial, thank you.
Thank you for the compliment Eileen. We work hard to make these videos clear and understandable - it's so good to read that we've hit the mark!
Thank you for sharing. I have always wondered how I could do this, so your video was very informative.
Thanks Amy; we have a new one on beads going up next week so keep an eye out for that!
Make sure to thank the indigenous women where this practice came from;) maybe even donate to some indigenous charities like MMIW
Hear hear. ❤
😊thank you super helpful!!!! I am very interested in this technique
Really informative and amazing. Thank you for the great helping video!!👍
Thanks I am doing a school project and this really helped!
Thanks Taylor, hope the project comes out well!
Thanks! Hoping to try this for the first time. I’ll probably watch this over a few times 1st.
That's the great thing about videos, you can pause, play and repeat as many times as you like Vicki!
Thank you so much!! Very helpful!!
TFS very informative and easy to understand. Have to go and watch more of your videos now :)))
Thank you for tutorial
very nice thank you!
Looks tedious. You’re so patient. ❤
Wow 😲 that was great watching your sewing, you are a professional. This is the first sewing video I've watched on UA-cam.
I was telling my daughter it's very therapeutic you feel very calm watching someone sew,..it's like taking a tranquilizer. 🤤 Anyway; I did learn some things and I have a lot of beaded dresses laying around this house that my daughter wants me to sew beads on. But these beads that need to be sewn on are long beads they're like maybe an eighth of an inch long possibly but I am not having an easy time sewing them down. They poke up at one end.
I thought it would be easy but it's not proving to be easy,.. do you have a video where you sew down those longer tube beads?
I would sure appreciate hearing back from you or somebody that reads my message if they know :-)
Sincerely Tammie 🙋🏼
If they poke up at one end Tammie, I think your stitch must be too short?
Very beautiful thank you
Hello! I’m new to embroidery and your channel is just indescribably helpful! Thank you so much 🙏 I was wondering if you or any experienced peeps could tell me if you have a preference for doing embroidery or beading first on pieces like this?
I would probably do any embroidery first then add the beads on later Remy 101, but check out my videos on how to stitch with the beads then you can do both at the same time!

@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery thanks so much! Can’t wait to give it a go. Hope you have a spectacular week x
thank you for the video - what about the proper needle to use?
Keep it up...very nice vdeo..it helped me a lot...god bless u
You are welcome Umaira!
What size bead are you using?
👍👍👍👍👍
Very nice 👌👌
As usual, awesome tutorial as usual, Sarah! What size bead and size needle are you using? I so want to use size 15 beads in my embroidery but I can’t find a needle that will both go through the fabric AND has an eye large enough to thread.
Open to ideas from this community as well!
Thank you so much. Very clear. I have a question. How do you balance the weight on a top to stop the neck sliding down at the front.
This is excellent! Thank you! Subscribing.
Welcome aboard Andrea! We have this one also on seed beads which you might find useful:
ua-cam.com/video/j5olR8y9NwQ/v-deo.html
I am repairing beaded dresses that are solid beads, some of them have a design to the pattern, but what I'm wondering is how can I put the material flat enough to sew it? I can't put the beaded dress into a circle holder that keeps the material tight that would ruin the beads. Any suggestions?
What kind of thread if you do this on stretchy fabric?
How does just cutting it keep it from unraveling or breaking? I figured you would need to do more to secure it.
Wjaat kind of needle will work ?
Hello - I am new to this but your base fabric looks much better than the one I have bought (the holes on mine seem bigger). Is there any recommendation on what to search for or where is a good place to purchase from? Thanks so much for the helpful video! Harriet x
A natural fabric such as cotton or a tightly woven linen (or a blend of both) is great for this kind of embroidery Harriet. If you aren't working on clothes consider also using a backing fabric in a cotton to give you some extra stability.
Hello, excellent tutorial. It's been 6 years 😮 but do you by chance sell the bead board with the compartments that hold thread and beads? Thank you. I'm a new
subscriber, and I watch your channel every day. I'm learning so much. Your channel, you, and hubby and ginger cat - I enjoy the content and presentation.
We only have the flat velvet boards now Susan
Hi
Do you go down in the hole in the bead after you come up
Great to hear Brenda!
This was so helpful, thank you! Question; what "canvas" are you using? is it linnen? Is it canvas indeed? Thanks a lot again!
Its just a fine weave linen Angel D!
Your my bestie
always love your tutorials so easy to follow thankyou 🤗 ps where can I purchase a table top hoop, I only see round ones , and does not seem as secure to table as yours is 🤗xx
Penny, the 'hoop' is made of 2 sets of stretcher bar frames
www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_5566804-Stretcher-bar-frame-8-inches.html
or
www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_5566810-Stretcher-bar-frame-7-inches.html
I clamp the frame into two of these for filming to keep it extra steady, but only one is necessary for normal working:
www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_4538062-Versatile-table-clamp.html
Is the address still good because it doesn’t want to load...I would like to buy one too...
Is the beading thread and beading neddle is same hand embroidery one or we should use different one
You can get specific needles and threads just for beading (beading needles have a thin eye and are usually extra long) but if you don't have these then use a fine embroidery needle (a number 10 or 12 works well) and you can wax an ordinary sewing thread with bees wax to reduce the wear on the thread.
Where can i get the stand you’re using for the embroidery? The one attached to your chair 😊
what is the stitch of the purple and gold twisted lines you have on the bottom 2 petals? that looks so pretty!
Overstretched wrapped pearl purl Nicole! Check out our goldwork videos for how to do this
Would you use the same method for a cloth doll?
Yes you could use these methods on a doll Christy, If you are puttiong them on after you have made the doll you could use a curved needle to help (a size 10!)
👍
What is this stand called ? On which the stand hold cloth.
It's a versatile table clamp and you can see it in our shop here:
www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_4538062-Versatile-table-clamp.html
I was about to ask the same question!
Excellent. I have a couple of questions: 1) Do you use a fusible interfacing on the back as a stabilizer? 2) I notice you put your starting knots on the front of the fabric. Wouldn’t these go on the back? Thanks.
1) I don't but his would work Catherine. I just tend to avoid anything we glue on it but this would be good if you wanted to stitch onto clothing
2) The knots are waste knots and get cut off. Check out my video on starting and finishing your threads!
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery Thank you so much. Happy new year to you.
I need beads on my kente kaba and slit
Where do you purchase your embroidry hoop stand? Can you share please...Martha
It's a verstile table clamp and we have them for sale in our shop Martha:
www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop
Sent you an message. Found the site but don't understand what to purchase. Please advise. Love your videos. Happy to know you have a site as well😊
Want to order seed beads what sizes to order a different shapes, new at this craft, thanks.
The higher the number the smaller the diameter of bead Becky. A number 8 is 2.5mm, a number 11 is 1.8mm for example so perhaps start nearer the larger end and try these first. Beads come in hundreds of shapes and sizes so start with the basic round seed beads and you can experiment from there.
With gum
Your videos have been so helpful to me, Thanks!!! Can you tell me where you got the little bead tray?
This is a velvet board and we make them ourselves for purchase from our online shop. They are available in different sizes and colourways and you can see them here: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/cat_264747-Embroidery-Equipment.html. We ship worldwide!
Does thread matter does needle matter?
Yes. Go to the beginning of the video Joyce and I explain about the types of thread. I talk about needles at 2 mintues but basically you need to be able to slide the bead over the eye so make sure the needle is fine enough to do this with the beads you are using.
what is that contraption holding your material called? Where can I order one in Canada?
I use a versatile table clamp Sheila, check out our video on it and buy from our shop here:
www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/

How much per outfit 🤔
How were you able to film these angles all at once?
Lots of cameras!
Does it matter fabric with beads?
No. You can do beading on any type of fabric
Thank you I needed to know .
Which type of cloth is this?

Would be interested in your thoughts on the technique used in this video ua-cam.com/video/Namba58WlyY/v-deo.html which I came upon in my travels through UA-cam. Obviously it only works for elastic thread, and if that's wool then the beads must have very wide holes, especially for the eye. But the results are inspiring. Incidentally, I'm currently working on a perhaps somewhat unconventional beginner's embroidery project, and would love to share it when it's done. Meanwhile, I've been enjoying your videos and getting ideas.
That's not elastic thread Adrian, just normal embroidery cotton by the look of it. She's putting them down in the same way that I do in this video. We are going to do another Stitching Around the World video (check them out here if you haven't seen them: ua-cam.com/play/PLC2TZFIW8ZoNnh8ASYu2-Q9vkaVgypm-Y.html) so perhaps you can show us what you are making in that?
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery Thanks for your reply, but I am confused! The thread she uses looks very thick, and contains undulations that show it is made from twisted fibres like wool. Between 0:30 and 1:00, she puts between 25 and 30 beads on the thread at once, and then goes back and adds stitches to pull the thread onto the curved design line. You do something similar on the with the 'e' in your bead lettering video, but only putting down a few beads at a time. It is not clear whether you would put down more beads if you were working with a gentler curve.
Incidentally, that link doesn't work, but my project involves embroidering a cushion cover with a combination of pompoms, buttons, and wool-stitched petal outlines in a regular geometric design. For the petals I'm using a whipped running stitch (which I think gives it an organic-looking frilly edge), with a backstitch at the tip to give it a symmetric point. The cushion cover is pre-made so it's a little more challenging than embroidering onto flat cloth, especially near the edges. I am up to the challenge, though!
Thank you once again.
