Today, we're taking a break from our usual DIY and fashion content to talk about something a little different - how hard it is to make friends as an adult 😭
Navigating the social scene as an adult can be as tricky as finding the perfect pair of jeans lol, iykyk. In this video, I'll share my personal experiences, struggles, and triumphs I've had recently while trying to in building meaningful connections in my new home - New York City!

I feel this SO hard, I actually just went out to lunch with a new friend today and it was so nice but yeah also so hard to do - I'd been procrastinating for months but I'm finally fed up and ready to force myself to socialize - a girl needs friends! I'm actually back in the city I grew up in so I have old friends here, but I need some new ones for sure. I hope we both find our girl groups soon 💜

I completely get you on having to force yourself to socialize - I’m exactly the same! I can sit at home all day and be completely fine but I know having friends will enrich my life even more so I’m forcing myself to put myself out there.

I used to think that I was overthinking the whole friendship thing and thinking about it as seriously as a relationship lol but now I know I'm not alone 😄 Hope all goes well for you!
You’re definitely not alone! I’m absolutely the same 😅 I think friendships are so important and the friends you end up choosing can impact your life in such different ways so I think we have to give this a bit more thought as it’s quite important 😄

It IS hard, but worth it! That's why I started my own channel, and I'm learning how much value I have, and it's making it so much easier to have the self confidence to make new friends in person, too! Don't give up, you will find good people all around if you look hard enough❤ And I'm always here, looking for new friends if you wanna start small😊

I don't really have a lot of friends and i have to admit my best friend was my now late mum. We did everything together and she never lied like some people i know 😢

Gal, i am in the same situation... Just moved from Nairobi to Malindi and let me tell you, solo date will become my thing coz making friends as an adult is so damn hard!!!!
I’m slowly building some good friendships here so it’s definitely possible to make friends in a new place, you just have to find what works for you - whether that’s book clubs, art, going to social events etc 🥰

Here I am trying not to make friends, people are horrible to be around, I'd rather spend my Days with animals and things to do. If I have friends their problems are my problems, I don't mean unforseen circumstances, I mean their daily struggles and their poor reactions to them. I'll get so involved to help iron out matters they'll consider me intrusive and if I don't get involved as much, 'i'm not caring enough', I'm not antisocial but I've had to learn the hard way that close friends are rare gems. And just like rare gems, they're best when they're found, not made
I hear you and this is a completely okay perspective to have. Our experiences tend to shape our interactions and help us set boundaries in our various relationships (friendships included).
I saw this TikTok the other day that was explaining as a friend, if it’s a genuine friendship, you should be able to set boundaries and have them respected ie if you feel a friend is mentally overhelming you with all the stuff they have going on, let them know. If they react negatively, talk it out, explain your perspective, let them explain theirs and find out why. If you don’t have the space to mentally shoulder their stuff at the moment, genuine friends would get it.
That being said, it can be challenging to navigate the complexities of friendships and all the emotions that come with them so it’s okay to put ourselves first and focus on our own happiness. We all have different needs when it comes to social connections and it sounds like you’ve found what works for you and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters 😊

I will say though, I was born and raised here and I get it; it is hard to make connections of any kind because people are just always on the go. Sometimes you become super close with people you work with but then when one of you leaves the job, your bond fizzles out. It’s weird!
