I research about Total Communication. It was so risky because I had bad sign language, poor English, and a lack of speech in a mainstream school when I grew up there. My parents spoke Spanish and didn't even know how to sign language. I looked like I was a language deprivation. I wish they chose Cued Speech or Auditory/Oral for me instead of Total Communication.

I’ve found sign language allows my daughter to communicate her needs even when she lacks the vocabulary or ability to express them. That ability alone reduces tantrums. I try to anticipate what she wants by watching her eye movement and head turning and observing where her attention is to determine if we need to expand her vocabulary and/or learn a new sign. While she can still express frustration at times- we’ve been able to expand her signing capacity to bridge the gaps she has in verbal expression. She currently is being screened for hearing loss which may bridge the gaps clinically in her care and help to develop a plan of attack. It’s not easy for any of us- but, I can’t imagine being in her situation and not being able to express things. We are all in this together.

my baby 30mths old, who still only know few words and only understand very limited instruction. Like you said she show has no interest in speaking and like to being loner, which the reason show down her progress i guess, going to consult specialist soon hope it help before too late. Language delay would be most worry.
