Layne had one of the best voices from the 90's You really need to go deeper in this rabbit hole!!
I definitely think Layne was the best of all the grunge singers.
-from the 90s- of all human recordings. 👍
Exactly!
Closest you will ever get of a man singing at his own funeral
Copypasta
I have always thought that Jerry was a very underrated singer and guitar player.
Jerry is/was the fkn man.
His voice is way better than Cobains, and I absolutely love nirvana. It’s just true. If you t keep listening to Alice In Chains you’ll see
Cobain wasnt a great vocalist..he was good at screaming, brooding, and sounding good at it.
Layne blows him out the water
Kurt had a unique and distinct voice. And I love it. But it wasn’t particularly impressive vocally, layne was just on another level
Layne was on a completely different level
Layne staley and Jerry cantrell where legendary together
u right!
Definitely need to check out earlier Alice In Chains when Layne was in his prime. Any song from “Live at the Moore”, 1990 is a good start.
One of the greatest concerts of my life and it was my 20th bday as well, after hearing Sea Of Sorrow live it still gives me goosebumps to this day
He had a brief but brilliant peak
You'll never be able to appreciate his voice & music fully without knowing his story.
Best unplugged ever, Layne literally dying here , teeth missing and bearing his tortured soul for us. Best harmonies ever look at Jerry smile when Layne hits "so denied" perfectly, beautiful moment.
yessssss
Best lead singer of all time.
RIP Layne❤
And to think that he was pretty messed up and giving that performance... that always blows my mind. The MTV unplugged version of Nutshell is simply amazing, it's like if he would've been singing at his own funeral kinda thing.
If I remember correct he didn't have is front upper 4 teeth during this performance.
@@WVNATION12he didnt lose his teeth until well after this
That comment about singing at his own funeral has been mentioned in every video on here lmao
This album was written as a eulogy to Layne. A living tribute performed by and for the performer
@@reidgeisler3588you just made that up 😂 MTV asked them to perform this, just like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Korn etc all did an Unplugged show
The way jerry supports lane in his decline makes me tear up. Brother ❤❤❤❤
You have stumbled upon the best grunge band and the best MTV unplugged from the 90's Layne is a 1 of 1. This entire show is magical.
@@vincents9620 ok
Grunge!?? A bit before ...
Check out Queensryche unplugged
@@mindcrime420 I'll have to check that out. Thanks!
@@ChadH2023 my favorite was Della Brown
One of my greatest core memories i have is seeing AIC play several times and specially on my 20th bday which was the Moore theater 1990
Soo awesome!! Only saw Layne with them on e, when they opened up for Van Halen in like '92 up ín Albany, NY.
They immediately became my favorite band that night and still are aside from Mad Season...
This band has the best voice in rock history
This band can take you to the highest heights and to the lowest of Hell's, and that is its magic.
Welcome to AiC.
One of best bands for the 90s.
One of my all time favorite bands. Listen to them everyday...
He comes from the same background as Nirvana and Soundgarden so you’re spot on
Layne Staley was sick from his heroin addiction during this performance. In fact this is one of his last performances before he died. RIP Layne Stayley
6 years of heavy addiction plus sickness he'd die alone.😢
Far from his last performance.
@@mssxwc This was recorded on April 10, 1996. Layne's final performance was on July 3, 1996 in Kansas City, Missouri. Wasn't really that far.
Often times people say this was his last performance because it wasn't released until July 30, 1996, which was after the Kansas City show.
"ive eaten the sun so my toungue has been burned of the taste" ha ha 😂 dude, how do you write better than that.
RIP Layne- thanks for the amazing songs.
"Rain When I Die" is the next AIC song I think you should hit, absolutely stunning and hunting vocals!
One of the best songs ever
Lane is one of the most
tragic figures of the music world
Check Nutshell from the same gig... beautiful song
Same genre of music as Kurt Cobain and Nirvana - Grunge. Also, both Kurt and Layne sang with a lot of personal pain through their struggles with addiction.
It wasn't just addiction.. it's the system (society).. the root cause..
Everyone wants to bring up their addiction but nobody wants to get to the root.. they fear the elephant in the room
grunge is more of a scene than a genre, all of the bands that got labeled grunge all had very different sounding music.
Alice In Chains would lean more towards Led Zeppelin, while Nirvana would be akin to Green Day 😅
you're lost@@theologyofthebody2870
@@montezuumahfacts
Standing in Iraqi desert at 0200 listening to AIC in 1991 while the fires illuminated the ridge lines.
You should check out their official music video of the song Man In A Box. Demonstrates the power they could project.
Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley here had a very close mutual friend who is one of my top 3 favorite singers ever. His name is Mark Lanegan. I hope you'd react to one of his songs. His live performances off of 4AD sessions are all good. He was in the band Screaming Trees that became popular right before Nirvana in the grunge scene, but his solo albums are the best.
Him and Kurt come from the same movement in music (grunge) from seatle USA
Sunshine! It's a very underrated AIC song.
We did the Alice In Chains Unplugged set earlier this year and it is, by far, our singers favorite band to sing of all the grunge artists.
Very cool, where are you guys from? Band's name?
Would absolutely love to see you guys!
@@SeanEnginetechnology That's easy. Unplugged Tribute Band. We have had folks post videos of all our shows, so just search that. The Alice In Chains show was at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY this last March
I like the way you catch the influence from other genres in their music. Yes, there is blues, country, and their own style
Finally
Layne Staley immortal🙏🏻🤘🏻
You can see the pain in Layne's face Heroin Rip Layne
Chris Cornell- Nothing Compares! He’s another great voice from the 90’s!!
Man in the box !
Listen to the group Mad Season song Wake Up. I love it and it really means a lot to me.
If you like that one listen to Nutshell
Alexa plays this for me everyday. My dog loves it as well.
Great reaction, must do nutshell Al’s from mtv unplugged
Seattle got really good band 😏
More Alice In Chains! 😝
He was on heroine during this show. They allowed him to do small amounts so he could get through it, yet he still sounded great. He also sounds like he was missing some teeth by this point because there is an apparent lisp, but he still sounded awesome
Please react to Alice in Chains - Nutshell!!!! One of my absolutely favorite songs of theirs!
Listen to Nutshell MTV Unplugged!
Layne is physically dying onstage in this performance. He was a terminal heroin addict. This song is haunting and beautiful at the same time. He will out sing all the angels in heaven.
Great video. My favorite band and a beautiful woman
Highly recommend watching/listening to this entire show. Probably the peak of the Layne Staley era right before the whole thing collapsed…until they came back!
We thought they peaked. Little did we know how deep Layne was. He’s on the decline here man.
IF you're interested in going deeper into Alice in Chains, i would suggest Rooster and Man in the Box
You are beautiful Emma!
Thank you! You too!
emma, i luv u❤

Layne and Chester undisputed tied at first I refuse to choose
Check out Queensryche live in Tokyo 1982 Geoff Tate singer
Song is Child of Fire
Play their unplugged song called "it's over now"
" Nutshell" too
kurt?
"Sorry for interrupting, I just want to tell you..." Always at the worst times.
He was not well at this point. He shot up right before walking out on stage. Laynes voice in his prime was unparalleled.
Please check the Japanese band Nemophila-Life

Please reaction I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston at Balai Samudera | Cover By JUDIKA ft Deo Entertainment
Down in a hole- he's speaking of his heroin addiction.
kurt and nirvana cannot compare whatsoever to layne and AIC
Layne died two weeks after this show…very tormented soul…
Oh no!!! 😔
Layne died in 2002, 6 years after this show.
Sounds like a Kurt Coban knock off. One of my favorite singers is Ronnie James Dio. Check out Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath.
Kurt Cobain ain't in the same class as Layne Staley kid.
You're correct Chad, he's in a higher class.
@@gregg6992Kurt couldn't hold a candle to Lane.
Layne clears Kurt bud
Yeah, but my mom's better than yours! Sounds a bit juvenile...
Best Grunge band of the 90's
Great video! I think you'd also really enjoy 'Would?' from the same performance :)
Latne wouldn't have made it without Jerry Cantrell
And Jerry Cantrell wouldn't have made it without his role in Jerry Maguire. He owes Tom Cruise big time. 🤨
