I love how you just made Vanilla Ice into the most inspiring person ever. The way you frame it is so cool & a great way to think of those monotonous tasks.
Hi, I just wanted you to know I’ve made some SERIOUS progress on my apartment, in just a couple weeks, watching your videos. I’m a mom and work full time so my time and money are limited. You have no idea how much I appreciate your compassionate and realistic approach to decluttering. So thank you, and just know that you are changing peoples lives ❤
You have the best ideas. One thing that my dad's wife has in their house is a built in a narrow cupboard in the hallway and bathroom. Her mother built 2 of them in this older house; they only come out about 8 inches from the wall (like IKEA shoe cupboards), BUT then she cut out the wallboard behind the cupboard and extended the shelves another 4 inches so the cupboards are only 8" deep on the outside, but 12" deep on the inside! It is genius and so practical for small spaces like a hallway and a bathroom like hers. She also has a narrow shelf underneath the upper cabinets in the kitchen to hold mugs and soup bowls for easy access. I used a picture shelf from IKEA to do the same thing, it is great. AND her kitchen cabinets have a groove, in the bottom of the shelf, so that you can stand up your plates and save room that way too. The upper cabinets are not as deep either. Her house has some wonderful space saving ideas.
I have a Hemnes that I'm using for my towels. It's the perfect solution. Quick tip, the white ones are made of particleboard. But if you get either of the darker ones (and paint them if you want), you're getting solid pine for the same price. 👍🏻
GREAT ideas!!! Over the years I have lived in many different homes. So the first "furniture" that I made for children's rooms were the old 30 x 12 metal shelving. I made them into headboards, dressers, desks and toy storage. The newer equivalents would be like the IKEA cubbies. A hanging second rod in a closet is a lot cheaper and doesn't put any holes in the walls if you're renting. Standing metal shelving, 23" wide, in the end walls of closets where you can't reach hanging clothes, are a good place for shoes, purses, suitcases, etc. Put a small motion, rechargable light and, "voila" a ton of storage. No holes. A pantry can be made with boxes or boards on bricks. Old school I know, but if you need heavy shelves, these will work across from a narrow laundry area or on a hall wall. You don't have to spend money to get extra storage. Spend your imagination. Thanks for more modern ideas. 💡
I think it's funny that Americans (Canadians as well?) are not allowed to drill holes into walls in rented apartments. In Germany when you rent you pay for proper and complete use of the space. That includes every change that can be reverted when you move out. You can't undo holes, of course, but you can fill them thoroughly. It's typical use and that the space might not seem brandnew and unused after years is considered normal, expectable use.
My recommendation for vacuum packing things: before vacuuming the air out, put something rigid on top of them that covers them evenly (like a piece of plywood or a cookie sheet, depending on the size) and maybe add additional weight too, so that as the air gets sucked out you avoid major ridges forming, making the resulting packages even less bulky and easier to store ☺️
As I was watching this, I had just finished completely decluttering our attic. It has been a catch all for easily 5 years and was overwhelming. I started out with 45 min increments until I had my flow lol. Delivered many items to donate and plenty of garbage 😂. It is soo clean now. Plus it's been great exercise doing all the steps.
I photoshopped a photo I took of fallen dead leaves in a creek to make the leaves green. It reminds me that just because it’s nearly my autumn time of life, I can still have life in me. It takes pride of place in my lounge and makes me smile.😊
I saw that concert a couple years ago and you are right, Amazing!!! I got to go on stage also and the feeling and energy that he puts into his show is amazing! He knows his fans love it and love him and he doesn’t seem to tire of it. We could all use some of that!
We bought the same type of ottoman for our RV - games, dvds, blankets and even the large road atlas all fits into it to keep it neat yet handy to access when we want. We loved it so much we got another for the house
You can store an off season blanket between the mattress and box spring. The great thing about the storage ottoman is that it also provides extra seating
Great ideas! So thrilled to hear you talk about Vanilla Ice! My sister and brother in law had an amazing opportunity to meet him at a nearby restaurant. She said is SO genuine and down to earth. They too are musicians and he even offered to jam out with them 🥰
When you said ‘you can’t just build a closet!’, I laughed because I took out a second door to our bathroom and turned it into a closet for the bathroom. Now the hallway linen closet holds various items and the towels are finally in the bathroom! We already took care of the other bathrooms so now I’ve empty spots! I’m NOT filling those spots either. Storage ottoman are amazing. We keep games in one and blankets in another. Good on you seeing Vanilla Ice! I’m going to have that song stuck in my head all night now 😂😂😂😂
OMG YES to double-duty furniture, "tiny house" style! We rent a small apartment, so can't screw anything to the walls 😣 So glad I was following your channels before we moved here - IKEA FTW! 😂
I stayed to the end, as always, 🤗 I love what you had to say about the performers!! 🥰 it’s So True! We go to concerts still a lot. My husband is a musician so he’s really into it, but I do respect and appreciate all that goes into being up on that stage!! Thanks for always bringing it for us Kat!! You’re our rockstar!! ❤️
I made custom underbed storage boxes that fit the spaces perfectly and fit 233% more stuff than the closest standard tub I had under there. These were only a couple of inches narrower and shorter than the ones I made so I was pretty surprised. I also put my DVD collection into plastic sleeves and cut their storage space down by 66%. I didn’t have the money to get all of them online and there’s plenty not available online. Going to do the same with my CDs. I’m going to make as many cupboards into drawers as I can in my new house to make the most of the storage and eliminate the need for tubs.
Cas, it just needs to be said... I adore you! I mean seriously. I'm looking for real life affordable ways to make sense of my stuff. Me, and my 2adult children have moved into a house together to share exoensives, dogs, yards etc. But each of us has some stuff 😱 so as we squeeze ourselves into a fairly large space with not enough storage, you come to the rescue. Ihave been looking at the ikea shoe storage for a while. I'm pretty sure that, and a few dollar store items are on my immediate shopping list. If you ever want to come to FL and do a show.. Haha girl call me 😅
Last year was my year for decluttering. This year has been my time to learn how to diy and install a bunch of wall storage (magazine wracks, floating shelves, etc). I'm a visual organiser, apparently, so my house is so much tidier as a result. The sight of my stuff on the walls, doubling up as decoration, makes me heart happy.
Don't forget a Kensington table- it has two panels that fold down, and two trays in the middle for storage, AND it's on wheels! My house is seriously so small that this is the type of table we'll be eating meals off of so we can tuck it away when we're done, but I also have one in the basement to fold clothes on. Next to that one is a 4-tier cart (Dollar Tree dish pans fit perfectly in each tray); hand towels and washcloths go in the bottom tray, socks go in the one above that, then underwear, then littles' socks. Using the cart means that the laundry basket is less likely to get overly full and little things are less likely to get lost even if they take longer to get folded!
Wow! Those shoe organizers! I just went over to ikea and saw thin profile wall cabinets that are going to really work in our new space. So glad I watched your video this morning. Thank You!
Vanilla ice? All 4 One? Sounds like a dream. My bf and I saw vanilla ice this summer and damn, he can still put on an insane show! We had such an amazing time and the crowd was just electric!! Love Vanilla Ice!!
My daughter found cubical ottomans with reversible tops. One side is padded for feet; the other is a wooden tray. Inside, she keeps the extra pillows and blankets for the couch.
I love everything Elfa, well-worth the price for quality, durability and versatility. Storing things under the bed is a no for me, although I can appreciate that some homes are very short on storage.
Thanks for this video! Great ideas on a budget. The furniture risers are great. I used stacked furniture risers to convert a toddler height train table to a Lego table for my tweens. We got the train table for free off the street and two sets of furniture risers raised it up to proper table height. The raised lip on the table prevents most Legos from hitting the floor!
Because of my lifestyle... I go to concerts frequently. I went to this concert right before Coolio passed away. They canceled his part of the show but it was still the best concert I've ever been to. Loved the energy!
Such great ideas, just in time for Spring Cleaning 🤩. Vanilla Ice....he was the Bomb! thanks for reminding us to stay motivated and put a smile on our face.
Thank you for your decluttering videos! I'm out of a 7 yrs relationship & back in my 1 bedroom apartment. It's stuffed to the gills with my stuff. I found the courage to start to declutter my apartment thanks to your videos. Thanks!!!
The bins/racks you showed for veggies look great. I have an idea for those. Thanks for sharing organization ideas. Would love to see ideas for organizing a chest freezer - mine is a mess.
Ohhhh... for chest freezers, the best way IMHO is to buy/use reusable grocery bags with sturdy fabric & longer handles. I like to organize by food type, tie the bag shut so food doesn't escape, & use different colors 4 different foods. Then I make a master list as I put it away organized or zoned by meat, veg/fruit, dairy, etc. I keep the list on top or outside & use for both a guide to contents & a running total of what we have & need as it's used. For an upright, I tried $Tree bins, but they become brittle in cold temps, so I've found cardboard boxes covered w/fabric or painted to make them like looking, in exact sizes for certain items, make each section a breeze to organize. I save Amazon or other pkgs to find the right fit for my items (FREE yay!) & organize by type on the shelves. Not see-through, but not easily broken either. You can even tape/hot glue a few pieces of longer cardboard together to make dividers that are just as tall/deep your shelves and snug them in for pretty efficient division categories to coral things like frozen juice. Although the $Tree can organizer is kinda nice for that if you're careful... LOL!
Hopefully your freezer came with two hanging bins that hang off the top lip? I definitely utilize those and then found a few extra bins at dollar stores to help sort like items and they’re also stackable so you don’t have to dig, you can just lift a layer. Above the freezer I have a big, old picture frame and use a dry erase marker to make a list of inventory so I know what’s in there without having to even open it.
Wow I literally use those under-the-bed boxes on wheels already since I moved to my first own house. I use them to store my clothing too. When it's summer, there will be summer clothing in the closets and winter clothing in the boxes. And vise versa. Very helpfull !
Yes! The Amazon ones come with felt pads. You won't need them with an Elfa system because they clamp at both the bottom and the top of the door, so no banging or sliding.
That tribute to vVanilla Ice was very sweet! I hope he knows that he inspires people! I love how you connected his performing to how we can look to that as inspiration in our own daily lives…as ho-hum as they may be sometimes! Well done, Cass! I love your channel!
I went to that concert too and was just as excited for Vanilla Ice! Lol I was so impressed with the energy and performance of each artist. Best show ever! Lots of great storage solutions too! Thank you for the inspiration as always.
Need ideas for rental homes. If a person is renting they can’t just do the built in closet deals but they would need a more economical way to organize them. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless.
Our platonic love affair with the song and the Vanilla Ice Baby boy 😂😂 it was a feeling and it still is to hear that song it’s a hole good feeling mood!!! Plus we gotta love what he’s been working on doing awesome houses!!! Woohoo 🎉 we love you 😘 and Cas I felt that love and the moment in the concert! ❤
I’d love to see ideas for storage for renters. Maybe you would consider a video for that. 👍😃 I’m 66 but I loved 80s and 90s music. Even the ‘trance/dance songs. I still love them now. Cheers from one of your English followers. 🏴
If you are in earthquake country, be very thoughtful about the placement of your shelving. Not over your bed! If you're wanting it over where you work use a rolling chair and make sure you have room to push yourself back or to the side easily and quickly. Etc.
Sensible to avoid heavy objects over the bed to begin with, regardless of where you live. However, this is an excellent tip and I wouldn't have thought of that.
Always admire and learn from your creativity Cas. Tons of great ideas here. However, this showed me we have different definitions of "expensive". Most of the things described as "super inexpensive" in this video are way out of my budget.
First comment! I've implemented a few of these (under bed & behind the door storage, bins/baskets, rolling storage cart.) I love the idea of the shoe rack, but I'm not sure where I'd put it, despite it being a space saver. Can't get an ottoman because we have my husband's grandparents' antique coffee table that we can't get rid of (and it won't fit in a memory bin 😜)
Does the coffee table have space underneath? If so, add some shelves & maybe sides to enclose it so people can't see what's stored in there... then you're taking something old & making something new with a purpose.
Living in an apartment, I have S-hooks for my pans on the kitchen cabinet doors. A shelf over my bedroom door, command hooks on the back of the front door and bathroom door.
This just made me realize we don't actually have space to put most of these things 😂 We have no kitchen wall space. We have no pantry. We have no linen closet. We have an abnormally narrow hallway. We have one closet for all our clothes, towels, paper products, and then one closet for storage. That's it. Small apartment problems. We have the back of every door utilized already for storage. We have hamper bags that hang on the wall because we have no space for a hamper.
Small space like that is excellent for saving $$$ because there's no place to put anything you might want to buy. Go watch the minimalist mom while you Save save save (and invest) to buy a house with 16 closets. 😉💗💚💛🧡
I downsized to 1/4 of before and now again 1/3. Extra blankets are wrapped around a large, flattened cardboard box to add insulation behind the bed's headboard. I already have filled the space under the bed and behind doors and have floor to ceiling bookshelves. Yes, I have too much stuff, but it takes me time to let go.
@@hereholdthiswillya eh, not exactly. Rent and expenses keep going up. I work from home, and my husband has a small business out of the home in addition to his day job. And I have a 2nd job as well. Had to quit the 3rd job because of my health. We aren't making enough to save much, but we have a lot of stuff because of necessary things for work here and pets that I had before my prior divorce and lost my home. It makes thinks very very cramped. It's a 2 bedroom and one of them is totally taken up by things I have to have for both jobs. It also houses the closet we use for storage. Half our small living room is taken up by the things needed and supplies for his side job. Hopefully we'll get there eventually, but I want to cry when just about every month we're getting a letter from one place or another that a monthly expense is going up 😅 It's just going to take a lot more time to get there than I'd like
This is why people in old houses had/have FURNITURE. They didn't have closets or if they had closets they were very small. I have literally lived in places where the hanger would barely fit in there. hitting the front and back walls of the "closet". I currently have a home the "closet" was where the old water heater was kept before they plumbed the place to move it to the basement. (in between bathroom and the spare bedroom) I have seen water damage so apparently they had the water heater lose water and damage things before they decided the basement was better. Anyway, the closet is literally 2' x2'. Barely enough space even for some kids clothes (and I don't have kids). I have noticed the trends in all the homes magazines , etc is NO FURNITURE. Barely bedrooms except for a bed in the middle of the room and a side table.
YOU SIMPLY ROCK, CASS!!!!!!!!! 🙌🏻 I LOVE you and your ideas. YOU MAKE ME SMILE!!! 🙂 I already implement some of your ideas, but the ones that I have not I DEFINITELY want to try!!! ❤
Please do some dollar store shopping videos! I love your suggestions and would like to know more about dollar store items that would work for storage, etc...
OHHH!!! I went to that concert in Indiana too!! My daughter got me tickets for my birthday 🤩 It was GREAT!! I went to the I love the 80’s Tour about 5 years ago when Salt N Peppa was there and it was THE BEST!! ❤️ Love your videos and THANK YOU for helping me get motivated. I really struggle with it and you help more than you’ll ever know ❤️
Proud to find I already use/know most of these! Following your content has paid off, haha. The compiling of examples in this vid is especially good too! 👍 Also I don't usually stay for the end story (no kids), but you gushing about Vanilla Ice was so cute and relatable 🤭✨️
I already use all of these ideas. I use a lot of free containers like cardboard boxes and plastic containers. I even have diaper wipe boxes from my son thirty years ago. Kathy B
Just changed the 1bar/1shelf over to a closet system like this for our nursery to hopefully make better use to avoid a big dresser as she grows. Trying to save space in the smallish room.
Great ideas. Some of these more practical for me than others. But that's the point, finding what works for me. I would ask that everyone would were caution on behind the door storage. My daughter and son in law install doors and window. One problem with interior doors especially, is that anything heavy or with any real weight can warp a door. Just an offer of FYI.
For my kids, we got captains beds with shelf-style headboards. Eliminates their need for a dresser and they can keep their favourite stuffies and books close at hand on the shelves for their bedtime.
Thanks for the video, lots of great ideas and so helpful. The 90s concert sounds AMAZING! I am def gonna have to check one out next time they come around, hopefully they will again lol. Those were the days! ❤
Thanks for this. I love your videos, always happy to see new ones. Just wanted to ask if you would consider making a video of your daily handbag (like what you bring , how you organize it , how many you have to alternate) sorry might be a weird question, that was just something that interests me somehow 😊thanks and have a wonderful day. greetings from edmonton

Jen, what a great idea !!! I stopped using over the door racks bc of door damage. I’m gonna use ur idea now🎉thank you!
I put a little strip of rubber matting under the parts touching the door under my kitchen sink and it works perfectly.

Yes, me too. 👍
God bless.
Great video!!! This is the type of content that made me start watching you years ago.
:)
I’d love to see ideas for storage for renters. Maybe you would consider a video for that. 👍😃
I’m 66 but I loved 80s and 90s music. Even the ‘trance/dance songs. I still love them now. Cheers from one of your English followers. 🏴
I would like to see that as well. I am a Canadian who is interested in inexpensive solutions as I am a low income retiree.
Great ideas! Fyi: For the grey ottoman you can add wheels to the bottom.😊
Really?! That's a great idea!
Look at you rocking out to Vanilla Ice! Iconic song of yesteryear!
We JUST talked about your ice ice baby motivation like a week ago!!! That is an amazing message. Thanks Cass 💙
I love the 90s. ❤❤
Hearing you fan girl over Vanilla Ice was the sweetest, cutest thing ever.
If you are in earthquake country, be very thoughtful about the placement of your shelving. Not over your bed! If you're wanting it over where you work use a rolling chair and make sure you have room to push yourself back or to the side easily and quickly. Etc.
Oh yikes! Good point!
I don’t live in that neck of the woods but still…😳
Sensible to avoid heavy objects over the bed to begin with, regardless of where you live. However, this is an excellent tip and I wouldn't have thought of that.
I like the options other than IKEA and Container Store because the closest of those stores to me are 6 hours away 🫤
Thanks Cass, for these great ideas!
So glad you had a great time at the concert! I always liked his renovation show.
Always admire and learn from your creativity Cas. Tons of great ideas here. However, this showed me we have different definitions of "expensive". Most of the things described as "super inexpensive" in this video are way out of my budget.
I rescued bottom dishwasher racks from heading to the dump and put them under the beds! Instant and free roller storage!
I'm so glad you have all the links provided to the products and your video!! 👍👍
Yessssss Cass ☺️ true about all the storage options but even more true about Vanilla Ice …. “Ice,Ice Baby”~ love it
Love all your wonderful ideas!
Thanks for sharing
That concert sounded like a blast🎉 so much fun ❤
I rent an old, old, old house that has NO extra storage, either! My closet is so tiny, I have to literally crawl into it! I can relate! 😂
I am absolutely taking mental note to put into practice as soon as I can afford it!
I really struggle with it and you help more than you’ll ever know ❤️
Did you also love that movie Vanilla Ice was in: "Cool As Ice"? My sisters and I used to watch it all the time. Love the 90's!
Proud to find I already use/know most of these! Following your content has paid off, haha. The compiling of examples in this vid is especially good too! 👍
Also I don't usually stay for the end story (no kids), but you gushing about Vanilla Ice was so cute and relatable 🤭✨️
I ALWAYS stay to the end to hear her stories. They are usually funny and silly and I just love that Cas is just ... so down to earth.
You should stay for the end story they are usually hilarious. They are hardly ever about kids. Good luck on your organizing journey 🥰
Super! Thank you for the ideas!! ❤
I went to that same concert when it was in Allentown, PA! It was so great!! I’m glad you had an incredible time!
Say what?!? I would love to talk to you! I’m a huge fan of yours! And a gift?!? Again, say what?!? What can I even say? 😊 you’re awesome!
I already use all of these ideas. I use a lot of free containers like cardboard boxes and plastic containers. I even have diaper wipe boxes from my son thirty years ago.
Kathy B
Diaper boxes are AWESOME! The perfect size and SO STURDY! I've organized so many spaces with diaper boxes covered with Dollar Tree contact paper!
Great video! Vanilla Ice (my college days early 90s), canes and walkers! 😂😂
Good morning! Have an amazing week!
Just changed the 1bar/1shelf over to a closet system like this for our nursery to hopefully make better use to avoid a big dresser as she grows. Trying to save space in the smallish room.
My 300 pound, concrete contractor brother doing karaoke "ice, ice baby" on stage at Vince Niel's tatooano in Vegas is one of my favorite memories.
😁now I've got ice,ice baby in my head...love it. It will be there all day til I look up the video for it and sing the whole song.
Wow! I saw Vanilla Ice in 1989 Chicago!! And I too know all the words. Stop, collaborate and listen!
What a fun show!!!
I use most all of these ideas in my 856 sq ft house!
Love everything about this! Storage solutions and life advice. ❤
Excellent tips. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Hi there! Always love to see you! Smile everyone! 😊
I love the vanilla ice anecdote at the end!! Great message ❤
😂 I still like Ice Ice Baby too. I used to watch Vanilla Ice’s show on HGTV. He flips houses in Florida too! 😮
Didn’t Vanilla Ice have a DIY show? You and he are the collab we didn’t know we needed!
lol, love the 90's. I gotta see if it's coming to me. 😂
Great ideas 💡 for storage! Thanks for sharing! Have a wonderful week!
I wanted to see your jewelry storage!
You're love for Vanilla Ice is my love for New Kids On The Block. They still rock those songs like it was yesterday.
Thanks Cass, I need to get hold of those shoe storage units. Looks promising, since I don't have storage space in the house. Great ideas
No walkers at the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in 2019 and I saw Gary Rossington play slide on Free Bird. It was fantastic!
For my kids, we got captains beds with shelf-style headboards. Eliminates their need for a dresser and they can keep their favourite stuffies and books close at hand on the shelves for their bedtime.
Another super helpful video.
Ross has amazing storage ottomans for great prices, just be patient to get the right color
that concert sounds so fun!!
Thanks for the video, lots of great ideas and so helpful. The 90s concert sounds AMAZING! I am def gonna have to check one out next time they come around, hopefully they will again lol. Those were the days! ❤
You can get wheels and add to ottomans for easier moving once they have stuff in it.
Oh my goodness! I wish I could've gone to that concert too! 😂
ICE ICE BABY!❄❤
Have all these plus other forms of storage. It's just a way for me try to make my tiny apartment livable
Great video and ideas. I now have ideas on how to organize my guest bedroom closet.
