Can't even imagine what performance they will give on this next farewell tour (or whatever its called), okay, well I can... and I wouldn't pay for it.
I feel for him. The high register that he sings in has got to be hell on the vocal cords. Even Robert Plant (rock god that he is) cannot sing at the high end of his register anymore.
Yeah. Aging is brutal. Just watched a video of Geoff Tate attempting to do “Take Hold of the Flame” and he didn’t even bother trying to hit any of those notes anymore. My understanding is that as you age your vocal chords lose elasticity. Of course booze, drugs and God knows what else don’t help.
@@baronhelius4596 I second your "Aging is brutal" but it is also a gift. Alot of these guys led very fast living lifestyles and it's truly amazing that they made it to 60. Honestly, I respect anyone who can go out and tour for long periods of time. I business travel for short periods of time and it messes with my body and my sleep big time 😂 I don't know how they do it!
Its still wild to me that Rob Halford keeps it going freakin strong every time ive seen him in the last 5 years hes killed it vocally, it really comes down to keeping your voice in shape the whole time, always practicing getting sleep/hydration etc etc. The checklist goes on and on.
You shouldn’t apologise or have to explain/justify yourself. We all tune in because we are fans and value your opinion. Deserves respect and is braver than myself and many people. So glad I found your channel love it and your critique. Big love and respect from Leeds, West Yorkshire, Northern England, Europe the Earth.💚💛❤️💊
I saw the Darkness in Melbourne in 2006. TBH I was disappointed with the gig. It seemed JH was phoning it in. In hindsight he obviously had issues he was dealing with, and aren't we all thankful he's dealt with them? I am a big fan of the recent albums and will attend the 2022 gig here in Melbourne. There's always a path to redemption as long as there's air in your lungs. Rock on.
I think he is in a much much better place than he was some years ago. He could have went to the Vince Neil dark place, but he seems to have gotten help, and is respectful, and is in a good place. This channel I didn't see until the Bon Jovi thing came up, and I have nothing but mad respect for JH now.
He’s lost some weight. He can get his breath back if he gets under 200lbs. He’s a nice guy compared to a lot of artists. I wish him the best. Congratulations on 100k!!!
You won't regret a j-hawk cameo! Sent a soppy request at the start of the pandemic and got back a lovely msg welcoming me to the family. Heart melted to go with the melted face at gigs
I'm so glad you got healthy Justin, Just an amazing live performance when I was fortunate enough to see your band live in Cleveland Ohio a few years ago. I hope we're both still feeling good the next time you all come around!
Thank you for this! I'm so happy when Vince gets credit where credit is due. In his prime, his vocals are so unique, so special. I've seen Nikki Sixx talk about Vince's special voice, and how he wrote songs to highlight it. He's legendary. I lived in LA in the 2nd half of the 80s, it was incredible. All those guys were out at clubs, so fun to see them in person. 'Hair metal' bands get put down, but those bands had incredible musicians and vocalists, even if you didn't like their music (I loved it, lol). Vince's voice always stood out, and Motley Crue were the OG of that era. He's been through a lot, losing his daughter, I feel bad for him.
I haven't seen them since 2005 but I have seen Vince 4x total and i have to say no matter the size of the venue Vince was definitely entertaining and enthusiastic, never let me down
What makes Justin's critical videos so worthwhile is that he openly acknowledges (and talks extensively about) his own rock 'n roll missteps of years past. It isn't just a cheap diss or typical social media smirk behind his commentary, but a genuine understanding of what artists/writers/performers can go through in simply plying their trade. And, above all, he still finds something to champion in what, to outsiders, can often appear to be a train wreck performance. He always appears legitimately generous and compassionate in his remarks.
I believe the drummers name is Zolton Channey I have seen him play with the old 80's 90's band Slaughter. He is fucking good as hell on point and rocks it like that the whole show. He has fun and is fun to watch.
His backing band is singing live vocals too. Zoltan is a blast to watch on drums. His trick drumming is insane! Blando is singing those high parts and playing lead guitar. He's a great singer too.
"Animal from the Muppets..." Love your musical critique, your musings (no pun intended) and observations. Seriously, your sense of humour is also refreshing. Please keep it coming. Really enjoy your videos. 😁👍
My first Motley Crue concert was 38 years ago on their Shout At The Devil tour opening for Ozzy Osbourne on his Bark At The Moon tour. I still have the Motley Crue pentagram headband like Vince wore that I bought at the show around here somewhere. The fact that Vince is still out there is a minor miracle, his voice isn't that bad (like Bon Jovi), he just has to drop a few pounds. Justin, your cameo parody at the end was hilarious, maybe your best bit yet.
I saw Vince play at a strip club parking lot in Oregon about 20 years ago. The 22 people in the crowd had a grand time during his 9 song set. I watched from the fenced off side of the parking lot for free. Felt like I got ripped off. I watched him lose at least 60% of the crowd once here in Vegas. I sat in the stands, watching the crowd head for the exits. Also had the pleasure of seeing him ruining Alice Cooper's encore one year. I also saw him drag down a Slaughter show one time. True professional!
I'd like to think I have a decent amount of empathy for aging singers who are still going in the arena and giving it everything they've got. But, Vince...I feel he's an exception. I give you credit for finding the improvement with his comeback, Justin. But to me, he's always seemed pretty lazy with his voice and technnique. Though I respect your take of not giving a fuck being what proper rock n roll is all about, I still want a good singer as much as a good frontman. It's just not enough for me to sell the song to the crowd w/ your stage presence. My ears are what moves me more than my eyes. Which is why I respect you and your craft- you do both, with command and control. And you're just as unpredictable and in the moment. So there we are.
Exactly. His annunciation has always been atrocious. And to compare him to another aging singer who also imbibed too much and whose voice isn’t what it used to be,I say look at Sebastian Bach.
I've seen Jethro Tull 19 times since 1993 but not once since 2012... Ian just cannot sing and he insists on singing a half step behind, it's intolerable. I thought his singing on the last record was good but I can't believe he'll sing decent in concert. Yet he still sells out auditoriums, so I dunno. I remember leaving shows and people grumbling about the singing. Well anyway I suppose it is a bad problem to have, I can barely get out of bed and go perform my physical labor every day.
Great video man. It's nice to see someone talking nice about Vince for a change. So many ignorant punks out there bashing Vince. Vince Neil is truly a rock star. I saw Crue in the 80's numerous times. Sometimes Vince was spot on other times he sounded way off. It all depended on how much he and the boys partied before the show. But I'll tell you one thing they were always electric on stage. It was an absolutely amazing experience going to a Crue concert. The man has lost so much. Number one being the loss of his daughter. I have nothing but love and respect for Vince Neil.
I’ve seen Motley Crue a few times over the years and what people seem to miss is that it just doesn’t matter how Vince sings live. Every song is a 5,000 person singalong and his job is to keep it going in the right direction. Drunk people don’t seem to care much if he only sings 10 percent of the words!
Spot on mate! Last time I saw them it was more like a 100 thousand person singalong! Been a fan for years and I loved it. Want there to hear a album perfect set, I wanted to see VInce and the boys rip it up, and they did. In contrast, I saw Def Leppard a couple of years ago, they were polished, perfect and dull as dish water!
@@gordonparrishguitar413 What standard would that be then? Direct replication of the album or as good as when they were all 20? You go because they are the ones that wrote the songs you love, if that’s not your thing, go see a tribute act and save a few quid 🙄
@@Yosser70 nobody expects a direct replication of the album, nor do they expect them to sound like they were twenty. That’s nonsense 🙄 there’s a difference between not sounding like you were twenty and sounding outright awful. He sounds awful. Jon Bon Jovi is the same. I have a lot of love for older nostalgia acts and many of them still kick major arse and deliver the goods. The do it well enough to justify charging people money to see it. This is just not good and he shouldn’t get a free pass because he wrote the songs. He’ll always be a legend and massive respect for who he is but this is not good. Speaking of tribute acts, he’d be laughed out of an audition for a Crue tribute act…and you know that’s true! I think it’s a shame.
I see your point and why a lot of people would skip their tours. BUT I still had a hell of a good time and the band is more than just Vince Neil to me. I’ve seen other singers like Chris Cornell that could still nail it in their 50’s and I’m always blown away because there are so many of them that have completely blown their voices out.
I was at that Cruel Summer show and that was without a doubt one of the greatest sets I’ve ever seen. Such drama, theatrics, moody, artistic and a band just on all cylinders.
Hi Justin, I've never commented on your videos until now. I've only cottoned on to your channel recently. You're really gracious man giving a lot of these artists the benefit of the doubt. Most would just let them fade away under a barrage of unkind comments. Keep up the great work and look forward to your next 'critique' of another soul that may have lost their way a bit. Take care.
I love Motley Crue but Vince has been done vocally for years now. They were my concert December 11th 1989 at Nassau Coliseum. Warrant opening up. Great memories.
pre-covid, vince neil's band was quite a regular staple of the 'summertime dino-rock' show nostalgia circuit - caught him more than a few times, even had zoltan hurl a broken drumstick off my head (ended up catching it on the rebound). glad to see vince has not changed! still doing his greasy rock show!
2 years ago, my girlfriend went on cameo and had a choice between You(Justin) and Satchel ( from Steel Panther) for my Father’s Day gift. She didn’t understand just how much I love The Darkmess, so she picked Satchel. He was hilarious and It was great, but I was left wanting. She told me “ I was gonna pick the guy with the nipple rings, but I wasn’t sure if you’d like it” . In order to keep our relationship intact, I didn’t show my sadness. So, hopefully, she’ll get around to getting a Father’s Day cameo message from The “nipple ring guy” this year. If she asks for a sample of “ Hot Leg “whichever way…” , you’ll know that’s for me.
Vince has partied too hard for a long time! It’s hard for our bodies to stay put together when we ingest literal poison! I saw the Crüe in Vancouver BC in 2017 (I think?) and they kicked ass. I hope they can tour this fall because it will be my hubs first time seeing them. To quote another band I’m seeing with them this fall, “Better to burn out than fade away!” 😆🤘🏼🖤
Most people will go to see him and support him because he was fundamental in shaping their young adult life. He was a part of their experience. His talent is fading. It is what it is. People go to see the stones too and you can’t imagine they are at their peak of creative self expression or technical ability. I don’t have a problem with legends getting on the stage and making their way through even with a little help or aid. Plus Vince from what I understand was more of a charismatic frontman and leader then he was primarily a singer with an undeniable raw talent. Who cares.
If you want to listen to your fav band at complete perfection then go enjoy their audio recordings. Concerts are meant to watch said band have a kickass great time, interact with the audience and perhaps partake in some light refreshments being passed around. I spent all my teen years in the 80's and have been to countless rock concerts. Just the mere fact that I don't remember a good part of this decade proves my point. Don't go to a concert expecting perfection...that's the entire point! No 2 shows will ever be the same, unexpected things (😉) will always happen. Knowing that, go and have a great time, I still do!! 🤘from Canada.
One of the first albums I bought was theatre of pain in 1985. My three year older sister got shout at the devil in 1983. After that I bought all the cure stuff up til dr. Feelgood. Fun times, but it is OBER!
Oh no! Freaky vibes! I was watching Home Sweet Home from the other week this morning, and it was much better than some of the other recent clips I'd seen, then someone in the comments mentioned John Bon Jovi. You sprang straight to mind! Congrats on the 100k, and thanks for the cameo!! 😆
Justin, you are now my comfort watch, always reliable content. My dad introduced me to the darkness and now I'm getting him into your vids. Rocking on from the island of Guernsey 🤘
Please comment on the videos before & after, a lead in & an opinion piece after. The constant starting & stopping of the video is maddening. Especially when we figure in the ads as well. Not useless criticism, Im just providing honest feedback to a channel I support & sincerely enjoy. Thanks! The best to u & urs.
As uniformly excellent as all of your videos are these days, there is always something that surprises me in each one. That Big Trouble In Little China hat was the capper for me. I love it!
We shall ALL see how is Voice is shaping up, when MC commence their North American Tour, in a few weeks time. It's Mars we should be concerned about, but he seems to be the most robust one of them all!!!!!
😆👌🏻 Great content. Glad to see you "get" Vince and the rest of the Crüe. I've always said they're the only 80's "hair metal" band that _matters._ They're also four guys who no matter what condition they're in, can do no wrong and always get a pass.
I love Motley Crue - of all the members I feel it really is Nikki Sixx who has moved in a more positive direction, his project Sixx:AM produce quality music with storytelling lyrics that I love to listen to. He really turned his life around.
Vince just never stopped living the young guy, rock and roll life style. Comes a time when you gotta take care of yourself a bit if you wanna keep going lol. I'll be 33 this year and it's starting to become apparent to me that your youth definitely carries you in your 20's haha. I think he's perfectly capable of being as good as he ever was though, or maybe even better.
I really enjoy your channel! I love how you critique these different artists with brutal honesty, but still have empathy for their being human. You also relate your personal experiences, wherever applicable, which I've found to be very insightful into "your world". It's refreshing that you don't take yourself too seriously and are able to recognize your own mistakes and shortcomings through the years. You've made me burst out laughing numerous times with your sense of humor and deadpan delivery. Your music is great and I really dig your larger than life stage presence. I agree that you shouldn't shave your "preposterous" mustache & thanks for keeping it real and funny!

Best or worst thing as you like it: Vince does in general not remember the Lyrics and just singing random bull...coming up his mind the moment he is in need. Other quality cringeworthy stuff can be found from his first concert after the covid restrictions loosened, he read from paper on the stage floor and still not getting the words right beside untrained and unprepared vocal chords and body. When he left the stage after 'Girls' his vocals from the taped record just continued. Impression was pretty much: Just got up the sofa and had to do the minimal to justify the paycheck.
"Shout at the Devil" was a great album, I first heard it before all the celebrity and drama, so they'll never be able to take that away from them. Some bands only have one great album in them, nothing wrong with that, not implying any thing by that either, lol!
Their best- no doubt... Raw their true essence was captured. You have all your life to write and create your first album, once your signed - you get a year.....and it's never the same after that.....
Been a Crüe fan since ‘81. It’s was sad to see Vince in the condition he’d gotten himself in … both physically and vocally”. I look at guys like Dickinson, Halford, and Meine. They haven’t let themselves go physically like Neil has but the three of them still have the vocal chops. Listen to the new Saxon record. Byford still has the vocals he did in the 80s
Zoltan is the craziest damn drummer on earth, I love watching him play. He even made slaughter look like a bunch of lunatics. I grew up on the Crue the last time I saw them I almost couldn't handle listening to Vince butcher the songs. I want to remember them as a bad ass band not a group of guys that keep going way past their prime just to steal money from people who seem to care about their music more than they do. Can't wait for the Mick Mars solo album, but if the Crue put out a new album tomorrow I probably wouldn't buy it. Great video though, as always!
I remember seeing the video for "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness years ago on VH1 and thought it was fantastically hilarious... I truly wish I would have started listening to you then Justin. But finding your UA-cam channel has been a freakin joy and a half. You're an awesome musical talent (voice is fucking on point Mr. Hawkins and salute you for it) and your funny as all hell. (American here if it's not obvious) Keep it up cause it brings plenty of giggles over here
I waited on Vince and his back band...Vince seemed stuck in time even through he's 60 but his backing band are what's left of slaughter and the drummer is cool as shit
I've got tickets for Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison, Joan Jett in August... I hope he gets it together. We are taking our daughter to her first stadium rock show.

When ever I’m being derogatory about any artist I always remind myself they are not sat in their house putting me down. Anyone that is brave enough to be public with their art.
Rock on.
I have been to the last two Melbourne Darkness tours and they were incredible, especially the one at the hifi bar as it was known a few years ago. 🤘🤘🤘
"There's always a path to redemption as long as there's air in your lungs." Indeed, well said
I think he is in a much much better place than he was some years ago.

Are you his tiger?.. 🤔
I'm so glad you got healthy Justin, Just an amazing live performance when I was fortunate enough to see your band live in Cleveland Ohio a few years ago. I hope we're both still feeling good the next time you all come around!

They way he tosses the line in there is priceless. "with a 100,000 subscribers and uhh......I Believe in a Thing Called Love......See you later on."
The "OGs" of that era were New York Dolls and Hanoi Rocks. That's where the influence and style of glam came from.
Admirable, Vince Neil! Of course he should continue! 🙌🏻 The drummer is awesome! 👍
I believe the drummers name is Zolton Channey I have seen him play with the old 80's 90's band Slaughter. He is fucking good as hell on point and rocks it like that the whole show. He has fun and is fun to watch.
Long time lurker, first time commenting, but you are absolutely killing it!!
His backing band is singing live vocals too. Zoltan is a blast to watch on drums. His trick drumming is insane! Blando is singing those high parts and playing lead guitar. He's a great singer too.
That drummer's circus antics are so annoying and distracting.
The backing band is Slaughter minus Mark Slaughter
@@supernothing77
Not the original Slaughter. Their guitarist is deceased and they had a different drummer.

I saw that in Buffalo with Pete Way's band, Waysted.

I have to know how he ruined Alice Coopers encore
🤣
Wonder what Corey Taylor thinks
Great video. I could hear your stomach growling at 10:31. Legend
Hey Justin. Would love to see you look at a Rival Sons live performance - particularly for the mic control of Jay Buchanan. It's a thing of beauty
Peter Murphy of Bauhaus also...
I think it’s unbelievable what fans justify because they’re ‘legends’. They’re charging money…it should be up to a certain standard. It isn’t.
Just want to say that I saw Bauhaus on Saturday and Peter Murphy is absolutely KILLING it at 64 years old!
I was at that Cruel Summer show and that was without a doubt one of the greatest sets I’ve ever seen. Such drama, theatrics, moody, artistic and a band just on all cylinders.
Singing the first song directly into the camera, so cool.
@@Nico-xf2rb I agree! They made up for Echo dropping out. Which I’m convinced was because Borrissey forced every to go vegan/vegetarian.
Peter Murphy looked half dead by 1990! That's awesome though 👏
As the British would say your bloody entertaining. I love the positive vibes on all your subjects.
It's been over for him for many, many years!
Been ripping the fans off for far to long.
Take care.
I hope we have many more years of Vince Neil. Can you picture him old as Hell giving zero shits and still shouting at the devil?
I love Motley Crue but Vince has been done vocally for years now. They were my concert December 11th 1989 at Nassau Coliseum. Warrant opening up. Great memories.
pre-covid, vince neil's band was quite a regular staple of the 'summertime dino-rock' show nostalgia circuit - caught him more than a few times, even had zoltan hurl a broken drumstick off my head (ended up catching it on the rebound). glad to see vince has not changed! still doing his greasy rock show!
You're a good man Justin Hawkins.
Easy target here. Rather than ridicule and condemnation, you have respect and encouragement....🤘🏼
Your voice still melts me ,Justin!!

Who cares.
I agree!
This is quickly turning into my favourite channel!

The drummer is Zoltan Chaney from the 80’s hair band Slaughter. He’s always been entertaining to watch, especially live.
OMG!! That makes so much sense, I vividly remember the Slaughter drummer doing cool stuff, standing up drumming, thanks for that info.

Zoltan Chaney on drums. Heavy hitter. Back in the ‘90s my band did a little gig with a band he was in.
You have all your life to write and create your first album, once your signed - you get a year.....and it's never the same
after that.....
I kinda like it best when he plays the intro without saying he's going to play the intro, and then go straight into it no edit. Thank you great video!
Yes true and Bruce was the pilot of his own 747 on a recent tour. He is in amazing shape to this day
Got tickets for Motley Crüe in September and I can’t wait.
