I’ve watched this 3 times. My hair is similar in length but my dry hair is super wavy. I’m finding pin curls challenging. Years ago when I was in the Lindy dance world my friend always did my hair. It’s much harder than it looks! I’m going to re watch this until I get it!
I find pin curling challenging as well! It definitely takes practice and finding the techniques that work for you. If your in the beginning stages I would focus on the quality of the pin curls its self over the setting pattern. Just setting your entire head with well formed curls and you can always introduce more patterns as you get comfortable.
Thank you for your feedback! What Vera Ellen style would you like to see? I did attempt her look from White Christmas on Instagram last year and think my hair might be getting ling enough to retry it.
@ that’s great!! Would love to see the engagement hair, or The best Things Happen While You’re Dancing (or the sisters number, which is pretty much the same as TBTHWYD). Thank you for the reply! ❤️
I haven't a clue how people do standing pincurls with bobby pins. For me, they never catch the curl and slide right out. I'm excited to try this set though, your middle part pageboy tutorial has become my staple hairstyle :) Also, that dress is so pretty!!
Thank you so much! I hope this pin curl tutorial works for you! I find using bobby pins for standing pin curls can be stricky and these clips make it so much easier.
Thank you for watching! I actually have two Lauren Bacall tutorials with her setting pattern. One with pin curls and one with rollers. I love her hairstyle
These attempts at recreating vintage hairstyles that a lot of people like to do nowadays are a nice approximation, but as a hairstylist who has a passion for hairstyles from the past and has done extensive research on the subject, modern haircut techniques aren’t conducive for these retro styles because they’re missing one very important step to maximize the definition of the curls and waves that make these styles look authentic. And that step is: tapering the hair. Tapering is a lost art that no one knows how to do these days. Tapering was usually done in combination with layering, but it’s different technique altogether. It’s hard to describe without pictures, but tapering is basically the process of “carving” the hair and removing weight at the ends so that it takes a curl more easily and to create sharply defined waves and ridges. And believe it or not, if someone’s hair already has at least some natural curl/waviness, with skillful and precise tapering, it’s possible to create a hairstyle that curls on it’s own in the shapes/direction you want without having to manually curl it at all. It was a technique known as “effilage”. It’s also essential when perming hair, which is something that most women in these eras did regularly so that the styles would last longer.
Thank you for providing your insightful comment. I do not have a background in hairstyling but do enjoy sharing my experience attempting these styles. Finding a hairdresser with the cutting knowledge has been impossible for me so I usually just show a picture and hope for the best. While I love authentic vintage hairstyles I also think it important to consider the average viewer and what is relatable for their everyday needs and experience. My goal is to provide the resource and inspiration showing how I have interpreted the style for my personal use.
Hi babes! I follow your tutorials very often!! I know your hair is shorter now but if you ever have longer hair I’d kill for a tutorial for Moira O’Hara’s hair in AHS 😭 I can’t really find one anywhere
Крутить надо волосы правильно , чтоб уклпдка была успешной ,вся голова должна быть накручена а не только кончики, поэтому и ыорма укладки не получалась
As a pro stylist I want you to know this is an excellent tutorial! Thank you for teaching me some things 🩷
Thank you! I am by no means a professional but I’m glad you found it helpful ☺️
