In the video 135 is in sport mode, whereas the 140 is in comfort. If you were to ask how did I understand, check the smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes and you will understand.

It's not just the extra power in the M140i, it's the ZF 8 speed box. It'd have been interesting to see them against each other with same gearboxs. Both fabulous cars. Shades of the past now sadly. Both Great cars.

Have to say I actually prefer the M135i exhaust note. 4:10 There's quite a lot of exhaust rattle at high revs though. At least it sounds like that. Did you ever notice this?
Quick question if your still alive as it’s been years 🤣 do the auto with the lddles need fluid change, are they dsg or? Or are they fine like normal gearbox they are made to last? Are the 2016 reliable for both of these?

How do the 2 compare regarding tuning? I bought an M135i new back in 2013 (pwg) and had the BMS down pipe JB4 and MPE. It is the best car I've ever owned. I bought a 2017 E class coupe and although it's a lovely car to look at, it's extremely dull to drive, as such I've been into my local dealer today to look at ordering a new M140i or an approved used M135i. Well from what i have seen, the M135 tunes well (as you know) the EWG more so than the PWG, but the B58 in the M140's is even more susceptible to a tune, figures from standard are underestimated with some haveing around 370bhp from stock. 400+ is entirely possible with a Tuning box etc, some even recorded as high as 420/430 with downpipe, decat, tune. Join BabyBMW (forum) and there are plenty of discussions on there about this :)

Great video, loved the exhaust notes and cannot wait for my 140 to be delivered! The m140i feels faster and is due to the larger amount of torque the B58 churns in comparison to the N55. Even if you were comparing both autos, the m135i, despite its 10kg weight saving could simply not offset the 50nm of torque disadvantage in terms of stright line speed. They are both awesome cars and you get amazing performance for the money! Both the m135i & m140i are faster than both Jaguar F-Type V6 (340ps & 380ps) variants!! Keep up the great vids mate! Be good to get a demo of the idrive system...
I have an m140i and the exhaust definitely doesn't sound as nice as the m135i. That being said. You didn't wait for the exhaust to warm up. The 140 won't pop until the engine has been running quite a while.
I own a 420d Xdrive and would like an M140i once my finance is up in January I’m 23 however and only been driving 5 years Is an M140i abit too much of a handful for a young driver ? I like speed but don’t want to come off on at corner as I heard there quite Rail happy Any advice ?
Hi Henri, Short answer... You'll be fine :) I've had a number of "powerful" cars before, never quite this quick though. This is my first RWD car of any variety, so I was concerned too... And to this point (touch wood) had no real sketchy issues in 2.5 years of, summer, winter, rain, leaves snow etc... Basically... Don't be a D**k and you will be ok, take it easy, learn to drive the car well and safely and just enjoy! :)
Thinking on buying a m140i for my next car. Which equipment do you recommend as a must? I have doubts about the harman kardon sound system, adaptive suspension, and navigation system? Please let me know the must items? Thanks in advance
Hey, hope I can help you out here. I ordered my M140i 2 weeks ago after an extensive testdrive. The adaptive suspension is definitely worth it, in fact, the ride without it really is quite firm and I found that for longer cruises or everyday use it really is quite nice to have the "comfort mode". Besides, I had the "Audi Magnetic Ride" option in my S3 Sedan, and I was often very glad I was able to switch modes. (Comfort for everyday use, Dynamic for fast cornering / high speed autobahn) Concerning the Harmann/Kardon, good sound is a must for me, and I did quite a bit of reading on this particular audio system. Apparently, not every Harmann/Kardon system is worth it, but I read that the system built in the M135/M140 is really good, and I can say that I had the same impression testing it during my test drive. Although with that 6cylinder beauty under the bonnet with such a gorgeous sound, you'll spend a lot of time with the sound system turned off ;-) Navigation - I went for the professional one, but that's mainly because I'm a sucker for that nice big screen ;-) Also the fact that with the professional nav it'll work together with your automatic gearbox for optimal shifts (for example, it knows when there's an intersection ahead and will adjust gear shifts accordingly) and also your LED headlights, adjusting the lighting for different roads. I hope this helps, and good luck with your decision!

I had a comparable experience by picking up a brandnew 240 last week but have to say that (in the moment) the 135 feels quite a bit more agil/nervous/racy and the 240 just comfortable, not to say boring. Hope that changes if the 240 free up after running in...
You can get an M135i for 20k here in NZ, a M140i is 40k plus. Imagine the mods you could do for 20k difference. I also prefer the "feel" of the N55 engine over the B58. It feels more like what a BMW inline 6 should feel like. More character.

BMW has offered me a 48 hour test drive of the M140i this weekend (which I'm mega excited about - I currently have the 118i). I know I'm going to love it, so I'm preparing myself for the extra running costs. What is the annual road tax for these? Some places day 270, some less. Cheers!
Hi Simon, Lucky you! i want to get the same on an M3, but no such luck as of yet ;) I think the confusion may be over manual vs/ Automatic, it actually makes a difference in the emissions. However, if you are buying new, then the issue for you is that the tax rules changed. This means that if the Car is below £40,000 you will pay £500 for the first year (auto) and £800 for the first year (manual) then £140 per year thereafter (for both)... If however with options, the car's value tops over £40,000, then you have to pay an additional £310 every year! www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables

It's mineral grey with red leather (I wonder where that idea developed?), with the lovely auto gearbox. Only thing now is the 1200mile running in period! Damn, that's gonna be loooong! Haha, i wouldn't worry. The M140 will free up a lot with miles on it. You could always just get an exhaust too... MPE (warranty safe) or a BCS powervalve :)
Thing with the m135i it had the N55 which had a higher redline and torque through out where as that B58 in the 140i is torque down low and power till about 5500rpm then it runs out of puff. Going for the m135i auto though.
Wish both were the auto box would of been so much closer soon as u go to change gear in the manual you lose speed and the auto just keeps going glad i got the auto great video but !
Interesting comparison🤔 The strange thing being: neither of you seemed to give importance to the different transmission... Actually, the difference Is notable even between 135 manual or automatic, and the same Is about 140, and the automatic Is ALWAYS quicker. So , regardless of the Power and torque differences, It s pretty obvious that a manual 135 has no chance, against and automatic 140...8 gears vs 6 gears, all 8 of them pretty shorter. No chance.
You'd be right there. They are exactly the same really. The M140 is just the evolution of the M135. Same shape, same chassis etc, just a different engine and a few other bits under the hood :)
I would suspect it's more down to the different gear ratios. 6 speed manual has longer gears and needs to be driven hard to extract the power. 8 speed auto has shorter gears so you'll be in the power band more. They'll probably feel like two different power trains entirely
The 235i and 135i sound better than the newer smoother engined B58 but if you are thinking of getting one and the few extra grand isn't an issue of course you're gonna get the newer M140i
I understand what you guys are trying to do but comparing an auto 140 against a manual 135I you might as well of compared each of them to an M2! There really is no comparison between both the 135 and 140. M140has slightly more power and the auto box is far superior to shifting manually. An auto 135 would beat a manual 135 every single time. that ZF gearbox is superb. Although its not really a fair comparison its a great vid guys, cheers
So my ZF8 box M135i (EWG) is quite a lot faster than my mate's M135i (EWG) manual. Just not as fun. The revs don't drop each gear shift with the ZF, that plus two extra gears & a mega short 1st and 2nd, means I leave the manual behind. So a ZF8 box M140i is going to be well faster than a manual M135i. So this is rather unfair on the M135i.
Surprising honest comments from blowsy in the manual vs. auto topic. I test drove the auto M135i and concluded we are not becoming friends. Too many gears and the shifting time increases when you shift very fast several gears in manual mode. It also lacked engagement and the paddles are a bit too small for my taste and the click wasn't pleasantly tactile.
Saw you got yours from cooper reading! Got my Audi from Audi reading but did look at the 1 series at cooper, just wouldn't get insured as a 18 year old On a 135 haha Also noticed them roads from near aldermaston haha
yeah that's it, awesome garage is coopers. the new Audi Reading is nice too. i went there when it was the old one, the service was so, so shocking that i walked away from S3 negotiations and went back to BMW. Give yourself a few years and it will be better :) haha, yeah, that's right. The Shell garage by aldermaston is my local petrol station ;)
Next time when you do a sound comparison, make sure to put both cars into the same mode. I can see smoke coming only from one pipe of the 140i. B58 is a better platform overall.
You aren't the first to say this. But I can guarantee you, both in sports plus after being warmed up. B58 is a better, more modern engine sure... But the N55 sounds better :)

Actually, the difference Is notable even between 135 manual or automatic, and the same Is about 140, and the automatic Is ALWAYS quicker.
So , regardless of the Power and torque differences, It s pretty obvious that a manual 135 has no chance, against and automatic 140...8 gears vs 6 gears, all 8 of them pretty shorter.

You'd be right there. They are exactly the same really. The M140 is just the evolution of the M135. Same shape, same chassis etc, just a different engine and a few other bits under the hood :)

How come Blowsy is no longer on YT ?
I would suspect it's more down to the different gear ratios. 6 speed manual has longer gears and needs to be driven hard to extract the power. 8 speed auto has shorter gears so you'll be in the power band more. They'll probably feel like two different power trains entirely

The 235i and 135i sound better than the newer smoother engined B58 but if you are thinking of getting one and the few extra grand isn't an issue of course you're gonna get the newer M140i
M140i B58 sounds better to my ears, the M135i is too farty / raspy it's not deep enough.
I understand what you guys are trying to do but comparing an auto 140 against a manual 135I you might as well of compared each of them to an M2! There really is no comparison between both the 135 and 140. M140has slightly more power and the auto box is far superior to shifting manually. An auto 135 would beat a manual 135 every single time. that ZF gearbox is superb. Although its not really a fair comparison its a great vid guys, cheers
both cars are very quick and great fun. But obviously another 5-10k will get you a faster car. especially auto vs manual
Shocked, M140i is in another league
So my ZF8 box M135i (EWG) is quite a lot faster than my mate's M135i (EWG) manual. Just not as fun. The revs don't drop each gear shift with the ZF, that plus two extra gears & a mega short 1st and 2nd, means I leave the manual behind. So a ZF8 box M140i is going to be well faster than a manual M135i. So this is rather unfair on the M135i.

Sounds are interesting, my m240i crackles a hell of a lot more than the m140 featured not sure if it's down to mileage (I'm at 6k)

Surprising honest comments from blowsy in the manual vs. auto topic. I test drove the auto M135i and concluded we are not becoming friends. Too many gears and the shifting time increases when you shift very fast several gears in manual mode. It also lacked engagement and the paddles are a bit too small for my taste and the click wasn't pleasantly tactile.
Saw you got yours from cooper reading! Got my Audi from Audi reading but did look at the 1 series at cooper, just wouldn't get insured as a 18 year old On a 135 haha

yeah that's it, awesome garage is coopers. the new Audi Reading is nice too. i went there when it was the old one, the service was so, so shocking that i walked away from S3 negotiations and went back to BMW. Give yourself a few years and it will be better :)

The 40 had the valve closed to help warm the cat up, hence why where was only vapour coming out of one pipe

they certainly do. Blowsy's car does look a bit more "aggressive"
Next time when you do a sound comparison, make sure to put both cars into the same mode. I can see smoke coming only from one pipe of the 140i. B58 is a better platform overall.
You aren't the first to say this. But I can guarantee you, both in sports plus after being warmed up. B58 is a better, more modern engine sure... But the N55 sounds better :)

Sorry my friend but the b58 is way more superior then the n55 and the ZF transmission too , m140 is just a better car in every way
