My favorite live version of this song. I always thought maybe his voice was more rested but this one ocurred AFTER the Wembley version. Everyone requests the Wembley, but Freddie's voice in this one is unequaled!
Budapest is the capital of Hungary a small country in the middle of Eastern Europe. It was a 4 year lasting procedure with the Hungarian authorities until the Queen could stand on stage in Budapest on 27.07.1986. It was obvious, that the Hungarians couldn't pay the usual fee of the band and the finally paid amount is a secret until these days. In order to reduce the costs the Hungarians and the band's managment agreed in filming the concert and the film was titled as the Hungarian Rhapsody. I am Hungarian, I live in Budapest, but haven't been to the concert and I wish I was there.
Their musicianship is amazing. Queen were a quartet, but you'd swear they were a full orchestra. Freddie - what can I say but how wonderfully he can sing. So softly and sweetly, then on the next lyric belt it out, all the while maintaining such clarity of vocals.
This is my favorite performance for this song. His vocals are spot on and intense. Also, I love the way he kicks up his feet when he runs...lol. Thanks for reacting to this performance!
This was earlier in the tour Wembley was at the end of the very long tour sorry but still no mention of John’s fantastic bass playing & Roger’s fantastic drumming the Sonic Volcano as they were nicknamed Queen were four equal band members x
In Budapest (Hungary) they have never forgotten Queen. They were the first band to play behind the Iron Curtain. I read that people traveled from all over Eastern Europe to attend. Fans do not forget.
Thanks, Phil - I love Freddie's vocals and staging.. but don't fail to notice Brian May on keys at the beginning and then guitar solo.. .and drums throughout.. all anchored by John Deacon on bass - this was not "Freddie and.." this was QUEEN - I look forward to more of your reactions...
Fabulous performance. I think these shows were at the beginning of the tour, & Freddie was fresher. They also did many all stadiums…75,000+ or better at a show isn’t easy of the vocals.
I believe Budapest came after Wembley and before Knebworth. There were two Wembley's, Friday, July 11, that was added when Saturday, July 12 sold out. When both Wembley's were sold out, they added Knebworth. There was a big party after the Friday performance which probably had an effect on Freddie's voice for the Saturday performance. He sounded great on the Friday rendition of this song.
In my opinion Freddie's voice was better for the Budapest concert. It is worth it to watch the entire concert. On the DVD there are personal scenes of every band member as well, Freddie is out shopping with Mary, Brian goes hot-air ballooning and Roger goes go-karting. Budapest, Hungary was part of the Soviet Union still but was the most open of those countries still controlled by Russia. Fans came from all over the Eastern Bloc of Europe to watch Queen and they didn't disappoint. Freddie and Brian learned a Hungarian folk song just for that night as well. 👑Thanks for your reaction!
@yvr kid Hungary was not a part of the SU, but had been laying under the control of the Soviet government for more than 40 years after the World War II.
You should watch the official video of "Who Wants To Live Forever" -ua-cam.com/video/_Jtpf8N5IDE/v-deo.html where Brian and Freddie sing it as a sort of duet and it is performed in front of a string orchestra. Plus, you can see John play the double bass. Brian had jokingly asked John to play the double bass on the song "39" (knowing that John didn't know how to play the double bass) but John took the joke seriously, and actually learned to play the big string instrument for the song.
I did not know that. Two years later, in 1977, John used a Fender Jazz Fretless bass on stage. The absence of frets on his Fender enabled him to simulate the sound of a double bass in "39". Always challenging each other, weren't they. Freddie wanted Brian to play the harp on Love of my Life until his fingers bled! There is a reaction to that on the Virgin Rock channel. Very interesting!

Written by Brian May for the soundtrack of HIGHLANDER about a man who is immortal and outlives the girl he loves! POWERFUL LYRICS!

Thank you for that additional information.
I love 😍 to watch Freddy perform because he gets so into the song. He makes me feel every emotion he portrays

I love this performance. Freddie sings it so passionately. You can also hear John’s bass riff so clearly. Great reaction.
