I am pattern testing a coat right now and I can't tell if I should stay in the same size (first fit version was waaaay too tight at shoulders and all else was good) and just do a broad back adjustment, OR, jump up to a bigger size. My upper bust measurement and shoulder measurement are several sizes different. 😆 Anyone who wants to chime in, I'm all ears!!😄

My pattern back across measurements 8 1/4 which is 16 1/2. I need it to be 19 1/2. I need to add 3 inches. Do I do it the same way because it a big amount to add.
Hi - thanks so much for this, I've realized this is the adjustment that I need. I just have a question. If I am making a coat with a back yoke (ellesworth coat) - do I stick these pieces together minus seam allowance and treat it as a single back piece when working out the adjustment? I know this video is very old. I was watching for the narrow back adjustment but it isn’t in the video. I have broad shoulders and a narrow back so it always looks like I’m swimming in fabric from the mid to lower back.
