TA DAH- The 2024 E-Ray no longer a rumor was revealed by Chevrolet today.

I do t know that any of us are looking for a Prius loaded into the front of the C8. They may not sell as many as they think at 105k each…
Think I'd rather have the ERay over the Z06.
Nope. The Z06 is the thrasher. The battery is to small. 1.9kw is nothing.
It’s faster than a ZO6!!
Depends on purpose. I’m more of a touring guy and not a track person. If I wanted to level up the performance from my SR, AT THIS POINT the eray fits my use case better than a z06 but so does the SR. Would be awesome to extend my driving season with awd but that alone is not enough for me.
The price to performance is solid but it’s also gives me pause. For my current situation the SR is going to be more than sufficient.
@@iampartsched having had both the SR and the Z06 I agree. The SR is plenty of car. A 2LT SR is a great car.
@@thereissomecoolstuff that is exactly what I have. Looking forward to ron fellows later this year but I am under no illusions, this car (sr) has more ability than I do as a driver. congrats on the Z, those sounds amazing and hear the driving experience is worth every penny!
Can't wait to get on a list for the next two to three years or go pay the twenty , thirty thousand over sticker, Looks like a great car but G M needs to fill what they have on there plate now.

It is sad and disappointing that the basic C8 and Z06 is not available properly yet and but another unavailable car comes out!
By design,to create the want in the minds of those who want it now,resulting in dealer markups and the like.
GM needs to start building the Z06 otherwise a bunch of hot air.
I'm more in line with Chuck's thinking as I'm also "old". However, I do appreciate the option for buyers with this new E-Ray. Thanks for this fascinating update. Rick and Chuck.
Chevy should have planted the 5.5L 670hp FlatPlane Crank in the E-Ray for a combined output of 830hp...
The Stingray is still a fantastic value/performance car.
Well I am very disappointed that gone are the days being able to obtain a new Z06 without begging to get an allocation. I hate jumping through hoops to buy a car. I did it when I ordered my 19 ZR1 but didn’t think I would have to do it for a Z06. I guess time will tell but Corvette is becoming a unobtainable car for most who have been loyal customers for years and years. Maybe it’s time to go see the Lamborghinis!!!!
The Stingray will be the most affordable. It's a hell of a car. People who buy the ZO6 will be real petrol heads who want that fabulous 5.5 liter V8. The most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever to be put in a production car. As for the E Ray. This will attract people who are into EV technology and are first adopters. I know this, these cars (as wonderful as they are) have turned into rolling computers. I wonder what the reliability and repair costs will be in a few years long after the warranty expires. Cheers!!!
Unfortunately it does one thing that you never want to do to a performance car. It’s curb weight is almost 300 pounds heavier than the Z06. That is the equivalent of two extra passengers. 8% increase in weight. I will be buying all gas all the time.
Yeah… and this is also probably why big ceramic brakes are standard.
Great point but then again generally all-wheel-drive supports cars suffer a weight penalty !
Also,.this is usually offset by superior traction, acceleration and handling !
In other words,..if enough boomers get blown away off the line by a E-ray with 4 wheel drive they'll change their tune pretty quickly,.
@@terryshrk It won’t just be AWD adding weight, it will also be batteries. Hopefully that is not too significant since they are small in the E-Ray. Only 300lbs for even low capacity batteries and electric drivetrain seems light. Is 300lbs right?
@@SteveWille 280 lbs more than the ZO6 is what is printed. The battery by itself is only good for 4 or 5 miles. The 280 lbs also includes the front drive motor. It’s more to break down. I have done a few runs with a Tesla Plaid. It’s impressive, but Electric still isn’t practical by itself, and If I want a corvette to go faster, turbo or supercharge it. I’ll keep my big block 69 corvette and my 64. Both have raw muscle and I don’t need a super computer to work on them.

Nicely done and not sure how much of market for this vehicle. Disappointed in GM , developing awesome products for Corvette, however, unable to meet customer demand. 😂 . Way to much $$$ for a hybrid that you’ll not be able produce. Bottom line : they can only produce 25k vehicles with high demand causing high dealership market ups. Just glad we have Rick being honest with corvette enthusiast considering dealing with GM failures.

Keeping my Z06 allocation!
I was 1st on the list at my dealer...now thet I found out it costs the price of 2 base C8 Corvettes...I'm not getting it anymore...that's ridiculous! Other car manufacturers only charge $10K more for their hybrid versions...I'm just going to get the base C8 2LT with the Z51 package now...I'm just going to use it on the weekend so I'm not too worried about the gas prices
Rick this such a funny video the description you gave was the second coming of the Grand Sport corvette known as the mid corvette. don't want the cheap corvette but can't afford Z06 but a Grand sport ERay is the same thing. I still love the car👍

Thinking about buying my second C8! I’ll have to build another garage.
They need to supply us with as many stingrays we want before putting out an electric car. If you can’t produce enough of the base corvettes to make the market happy, we will go buy something else.

Great job presenting the new E Ray. You and Chuck work well together. I was shocked by the initial cost of this new C8 version. I was with you Rick on the middle ground between Stingray and Z06. I remember you saying that you thought around 85K starting price and I agreed. Boy did we miss that mark. Keep up the great work and please relax the best you can.

More E Rays sold brings the GM average MPG way up. Very few Z06s will be sold again next year because that real 9 MPG isn’t going to help that average so not many will be in the calculation. Yes, I get 8.8 MPG in my C8 Z06.
How long is your eRay list?
I love AWD but the weight may hinder. If I can get the Eray before Z06 then Eray it is.
What will the weight balance be on the E-Ray?
Looking back, I see some subtle clues that an E-Ray C8 had been planned all along.
- no loss of space in the E-Ray frunk
- that mysterious transfer of Corvette into GMs electric vehicle vertical lineup
I'm prepared to like the added performance from having electric powered front wheels. I can see some advantages from not having a front drive shaft and transfer case. But there probably won't be any weight saved. That would be offset by the large battery.
My fears about all this are the same as the frog's in that proverbial pan of water on the stove. We may all wake up someday to realize that Corvette has become unrecognizable.
Looks like Rick (and Chuck) will be back at NCM track next month test driving ERays

Will there be any changes for 2024 stingray besides exterior colors??
One solution to the production dilemma is to cease production on 1LT Stingrays until after supply can better meet demand for the more expensive models and trim levels. In fact, they should have been doing this all along.

Between the standard carbon ceramic brakes and driver assistance equipment, I’m not surprised that the base price of the Eray is higher than expected. Chevy added a lot of value. Nice summary!

Following the trend, the ZR1 may have the Z06 engine in the rear paired with a more powerful electric motor upfront to produce about 870 combined HP.

Happy Anniversary Corvette 🎉 Great performance numbers from the new E-Ray but it’s curb weight is quite portly…hence why I think they made CCBs standard to help reduce weight and rotational mass…plus not as many folks will track these so the cost for replacement isn’t as much of a factor…why they still offer iron brakes on the Z. I feel strongly this new model will take away allocations of the Z and make it an even more special and desirable car to have 👌

Rick - Nice report on the E Ray. I thought it would start in the $90's. However even at the release price it will out perform the Acura NSX which starts around $170

Can we please stop saying it’s not GM fault that they can’t make the cars. COVID isn’t last month, they need to adapt and adopt or die. Find a new supplier, bring a CF department in house, etc. It’s not just two options…

Does anyone know what "shuttle" mode is? During the start mode where "stealth" mode is to the left, there is "shuttle" to the right. 🤔
Essentially for moving the car around. Top speed in shuttle mode is 15mph. Best used at car shows, dealerships, if you winterized your Vette and don't want to start the gas engine, etc.

GM gives the hybrid standard Carbon brakes but for the track car Z06 does not get them as standard? Just build the damn cars GM where are the Z06s?
If the Eray rear 500HP engine starts "stock", can it accept mods bring it closer to Z status all,.... by,... itsef?

stealth mode isnt new. the c7 zo6 has that in the exhaust switching. nice car though...just give me combustible.
Been on the stingray waiting list with Rick since July 2019. Not even a phone call.

I walked into my local Chevy dealer in No Va in May ‘21 , car was delivered one year ago today.

Visited the dealership, received acknowledgment via email once I was on the wait list, filled out required documents and emailed back the completed documents. The last correspondence I received was on July 1, 2021. Then responded to that email.. shown below.
Contacting you now as you have been patient through all the start and stop of Corvette production, I thank-you for that. We are now beginning to enter orders for 2022 to be in the GM cue waiting for allocation release.
If you wish to continue, let me know and I need any info I will reach back out, but for now I can enter something on your behalf and when the allocation release is confirmed, review and change anything for you at that time

You know how many gas stations there were when he developed the Model T?. Lol. We will get there wrt charging stations. There are currently 56,000 charging stations in the US currently!
