14-year-old talent from China, Gao Shiqi 🇨🇳, showcases her skills in the figure skating women's single free skating event at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics, performing to "Chapter Four - Princess Mononoke.

Her performance brought tears to my eyes. I haven't felt such excitement since watching Yuna Kim and Rika Kihira. She possesses a natural musicality and she commands it seamlessly at such a young age. Truly, she is extraordinary. So excited to witnessing her growth and maturation in the years ahead.

She is amazing! Grace, muscles to bring all the elelments to life. She seems to struggle with in between parts, treating them as something she has to get thru so she can do another jump. Hopefully her growing up years, or her dance coach can help her with her transistions. This little lady is going to be a threat on ice.

Uninspiring music and poor choreography, this little star deserved better so she could shine even brighter. She is truly magical.
Her style reminds me of Lu Chen , beautiful , but I wish skaters would stop with the arms over the head on EVERY jump , it’s not attractive .
if you don’t like it, then don’t watch it! arms over the head isn’t always meant for attractiveness, it helps some skaters with the air position.

She is an exceptional skater, but the music is poorly chosen and the choreography is boring (I know those things are up to her coaches and not her).
I'm no skating expert, but I thought the music was awful too😮. It was like the wrong music was playing over the video😢. What an amazing skater this girl is, but whoever chose that music needs a better ear for sure 😢.
This music from Princess Mononoke is beloved and well-recognized by people who grew up with this classic movie…

She has a Michelle Kwan quality. She has the wrong coach and choreographer.
Gao actually reminds me more of a young Karen Chen, from her big double Axel and quick spins to her confident projection. I thought her program and choreography were pleasant and age appropriate. If she can work through those cheated jumps and puberty, she has some very nice qualities that should serve her well.

The song’s vibe and her energy doesn’t match. Great routine and set of skills but if you look at it in the overall artistry aspect she lacks connection with the music. Like I don’t get the story she’s telling. I guess it’s cause she’s really still just a kid and is just excited to perform but I feel disconnected to her performance. Guess, not everyone can give off the same expressiveness like Yuzuru Hanyu. (DONT go after me for mentioning Yuzuru. I don’t mean anything bad about it I mentioned YH cause she used a song from the same composer of one of the songs Yuzuru used so I used him as a comparison. That’s all)

The girl really skates well, but is it a phenomenon? No. Talent? No. This is work and attempts to jump beautifully and musically roll back the program. Why am I saying this? Everything is learned in comparison, and if someone opens a video from the Russian Figure Skating Championship, then between watching such a video, they are more likely to prefer to see art on ice in the form of Russian figure skaters with pure complex and musical jumps.
