I know I'm late to the party by a few years but this is a great analytical movie critique. You two rock thank you for what you both do you do it so well.
C. S. Lewis is a person who I find fascinating for a variety of reasons. Didn't Anthony Hopkins play him in the 1993 film "Shadowlands"? I would have to rewatch that film. Because it has been a long while. As for this film I will pass on watching it. Overall it doesn't seem interesting. Also I'm not the biggest fan of Freud.
I loved it. Opens a "view" of respectiveful listening as a method to conversation that is somewhat lacking in current culture. Questioning beliefs and at the same time ribbing each other's ideas without demeaning one another. I think the depth comes from thought-provoking conversations after watching the grazing through of topics. For instance, your takeaways spawned a thought-provoking & interesting conversation, for sure, in this review. With the immense amount of ideology the two men possess, to put this together in brief script, as the producer did, was both entertaining & thought-provoking for me.
Matthew Goode is also in 'Silent Night', which could be a good addition to the podcast's "movies we watched for fun", if you have time. Have a good Christmas!
I've seen this play! I was in a deep C.S. Lewis faze... Have always been more interested in conversation or film about Lewis and Tolkien. I know they made a movie about it but it was not great.
Until your review, I hadn't even heard a whisper of this film. It sounds a tad dull, and I'm unlikely to see it. I remember really enjoying "Shadlowlands" which co-starred Deborah Winger, if memory serves. But, as always lads, your review is impeccable and you both deserve a lot more love from UA-cam. 'Hoping that 2024 brings you loads more subscribers and health and happiness. Happy Christmas. Nollaig shona duit! ❤
I enjoyed the movie as a meditation on GAWD, but you two make some good points about how it could have been improved from a script perspective. The film was perhaps trying to juggle a little too much, and therefore didn't give every subplot its due.
Saw it pop up on sale on Apple TV, and now I’m here. The concept seemed interesting, but the trailer honestly looked quite bad. Clearly bad writing did this concept a disservice. The film “Man From Earth” is entirely dialogue and yet is a really fascinating film because of the writing and the acting. I had hoped this film would be similar, but apparently not.

yes he did, the person playing lewis is actually wearing the same suit hopkins wore in shadowlands apparently. don't quote me on that though

One of those movies where someone who's a fan of Anthony Hopkins will watch - which is what you also found alright. My mind would just stray, so nope☺

Same. I really want to see this movie. Just finishing The Inklings.
Thank you for your review!
It was more than a tad dull
I didn't hate it but wish I skipped it
I have not seen this movie but your review made me laugh not out criticising you as reviewers but your sassy attitude helped me as I’m unwell. ❤❤❤
can you guys review 'Stalker' by Tarkovsky?
Fell asleep. Not much I can really say about the film. Woke up to Anthony Hopkins bitting the finger off the other chap.

given the title this would be so much better if it ended with Lewis murdering Freud
