Although thank you for the videos! I watched these just yesterday and its given me a way to perfect my fundamentals. I've actually NEVER had someone explain the fundamentals of a QB is such a masterful way, like it clicks almost immediately. I hope you continue to do these videos, you truly are a master of your trade.
im 13 and i am ambidextrous, and im about 5'6" and i started to practice cause im trying out next year, i usually would have gotten a sore arm after an hour but now its after like 3-4 hours, but my spiral on my right arm (power arm) isnt really good, but the spiral on my left hand is really good on long passes, how can i become better at throwing spirals with my right hand
if you can throw great with your left hand, dont worry too much about improving your right. your left hand is your throwing hand. a qb doesnt necessarily have to throw with their right hand. there are many great left-handed qbs like steve young and michael vick. use the hand YOU are most comfortable throwing with
in order to create better timing with the distance of the route by the receiver. If you are having to get the ball farther down the field you won't be doing that from a three step drop. Additionally, make sure to increase your stride length a bit when you step into the throw. ...
Hi Dylan, sorry, we don't have any clinics/camps in Utah. To learn more, you can purchase the full length videos from our website as these youtube vids are just samples. Be great!
Thank you!! I love this program ya'll are doing, are there classes for guys in my age group? If so, where are they located and how much? I've learned so much so fast that makes very noticeable differences JUST from these videos, I couldn't imagine in person! Please, keep these going!!!
Coach I never played a game in my life but I love and have a passion for football IM really athletic do you think I can get on a college team if I never been on a high school team IM 17 and wish I knew a place to practice.
Thanks for the comment Dylan. We don't have any mini-camps or workouts scheduled right now. If you can get down to San Diego, Jeff Garcia is doing a QB camp this week. You can get details at jeffgarciafootball[dot]com. We also have some training modules for sale on our site. If you haven't done so already, go create a locker on our site. You should be able to unlock one of the modules.
I'm 21 and didn't realize my potential playing QB until recently. I know I'm a little late to the party, but am I TOO late? I ask only because I get told this by all my friends and family - that 21 is too old to play college ball. Also, if I'm not too old, what would be my best course of action? I live in Utah, and am in the process of transferring to a football school (Weber St.) but I don't know if I'm doing this right. I want to do what I love for a living, I am literally in love w/ football
i get sore arms from the shoulder balls and elbow joints,i throw once every week for 2-3 hours straight what can i do to strengthen my arms and joints and how many minutes should i rest in the 2-3 hrs of throwing footballs.please help sick and tired of getting soar muscles.hope to hear from you guys.
hi I need help I can launch the ball far and accurate but I have pains in my arm I tried the method in this video but it still hurts do you know any other methods
if its 50/50 for torso and arm how should my arm feel is it relaxed or should i feel a little strain for powering my arm. it hurts a Little when i power it with too much force how can i go about it?
By practicing each fundamental over, and over, and over! Throwing a football is a skill much like hitting a golf ball. The more you practice the more it becomes part of your motor movements of the nervous system.
I would recommend buying Coach Cunerty's video on throwing mechanics. Based on your explanation, it's difficult to understand what you are trying to explain relative to extending your arms? Everything starts with your footwork, transfers to your hips and shoulders, and then lastly your elbow to the fingertip that the ball leaves from.
Im 15 years old I been playing QB for two years I have a strong arm very accurate with short and medium passes. But when it comes deep passes I can't get it deep enough. Do u have anyways that u can help me
also i notice the faster i can extend my arms the longer i can throw it with a perfect spiral im i on point here? i wana know if im on the right track and also im trying to feel my torso generating force some times cant feel it is that normal or is it im throwing still with my arms too much?
Devante Nicholson. I find aiming is more of a hand eye coordination, mind over matter situation. I don't know if im just a natural or what but aiming is as easy (at least for me) as getting a look at my target and quickly planning whether I do or don't pass to him. And if I do pass, it's all about what type of pass depending on the coverage. You also have to know where to place it. Whether directly on him or lead your target.
ok but if i get sore how many days do i stop and i lift weights for 3 days about 45 minutes is it still ok to do that? and what if my my schedule permits me only once or 2 a week throwing is it still ok and can i throw for consecutive days and even if its a little sore? also i think my motion is like a shot putter like drew brees i still need more weight for kinetic energy will my weight be able to throw a 60 yarder if its 139 lbs? or do i need to gain more.thanks for the infos in advance :)
Coach I'm in the exact same suituation as AngelPlox I've even reached out to some NFL players' foundation but I don't know what else to do. I'm 15 and I live in the UK
hi im 13 years old and I don't play football but ive always wanted to but I throw differently. I throw the ball like a punch sort of. I found out that that's called a puncher. well my elbow hurts now from doing it that way and I don't have a medicine ball. is there anything else to do?
coach i havent tested your routine out yet but i will i have pain inside my elbow when i start throwing and it stops me from performing in practice if u have any other tips about that injury or information to help me understand what is going on i would appreciate it thankyou
A slightly longer stride into your throw will force your hips to rotate more dramatically which will create more power in your shoulder rotation. I would recommend purchasing QB video #5 on our website, my football mentor.com, which covers throwing mechanics.
hey i just wanted to ask you if you think its possible for me to become a footballer, , im from the uk, im 14 and im 5 ft 9, most of my family are 6ft 4/5 and ive always wanted to become a quarterback ever since i was born even though nobody in my family does it all my friends think its dumb and none of them believe in me;( i practice all the time and im not giving up until i do it but if you can can you give some tips because i feel like nobody's behind me., footballs the only thing i want to do.
The only limit is the one you put on yourself. 21 is not too old. Some college players go to school after spending some time doing other things. I know a 24 year-old junior who spent some time playing MLB, then decided to go to college and play football. The only limit is you can only play for 4 seasons unless redshirted, you can play 5.
i’m having a lot of pain in my rotator cuff and shoulder from throwing deep balls. i’m pretty sure the problem is when my arm is at 90 degrees, it is over rotating backwards and causing strain. please help
It can be a couple of different things. It's probably your bio-mechanics. It may be best to have one of your parents use a smartphone or a camcorder to record some video of you throwing the ball deep, upload it to UA-cam and send us a link to look at.
Coach, my son will be nine in Sept. How young a player would you suggest this warm up for? I know I can get lighter medicine balls, but I don't want to do anything that might damage my son's muscles or joints by starting things like this too early.
Workout your arms, go lift weights and get your arms bigger. The stronger your arm is, the deeper you can throw a ball. Look at his "three different types of throwers" and study Tom Brady's throwing motion. Its hard to explain but I hope this may help a bit. Love to hear of football being played in the UK
That happens to me also. I found out that the wrong throwing form is what causes that. So when your throwin the ball you wanna follow through on it if you know what I mean.
Austin, thanks for your questions! 30 yards is good for an 11 year old but don't judge your quarterbacking skills by how far or how hard you can throw a ball. Learn how to read what the defense is doing because this will benefit you more than anything. Bill Walsh, the former San Francisco 49'rs great coach, always told his quarterbacks that it's not how hard or far you can throw but how accurately and how on time. If you know how to read a defense and you know when and where the receiver will be open, anticipating this and letting the ball go before the receiver gets to his spot will make you a better quarterback! That's how Peyton Manning does it! Thanks for following My Football Mentor!
I would recommend seeing a doctor just in case. Could be a strained deltoid or could be as bad as a tear if your arm wasn’t conditioned enough and an abnormal amount of stress was asked of it. A doctor is the best person to go to if it’s extremely concerning and if you can’t really use it.
I am going to guess that you are more of a punch thrower similar to Tony Romo or Dan Marino? Typically, punch throwers can't throw long as well as they are accurate and powerful on short to intermediate throws. Two things that will increase your distance on your throws is to add a hitch step into your drop as longer throws usually require the QB to take single or double hitch steps after their fifth or seventh step in their drop ... Hi I'm 13 years old id like to be a QB next year for football I've been practicing everyday and I'm having trouble with my aim. I can throw perfect spirals and every thing but it's just my aim that messes me up sometimes. What can I do to help me better on my aim while throwing?
Devante, the first thing I would tell you is to not aim the football, just throw it. You know that when you throw a ball that you need to lead your receivers whether they are crossing the field or running vertically. That takes practice with your receivers so that you know how to gauge their speed and how they run their routes. The most important thing to work on is your mechanics. If your mechanics are correct you will lead your receivers appropriately. It all starts with the feet. If the feet are set correctly your throws will be more on line when leading your receivers. Thanks for following My Football Mentor!
The biggest problem u r having is that u r not throwing enough! If u only lifted weights once a week u would get sore every time, particularly if u lifted for 2 to 3 hours! You need to throw at least 3 X a week if u are going to spend that many hours throwing. Additionally, don't start off throwing for that long each time. Start out with throwing for an hour and then work up from there. You need to gradually strengthen the muscles in your arm and shoulder until they get use to the routine.

you are most likely throwing to much with your elbow, like coming down on it with your arm, try rotating your arm more.
