I work as an ultrasound and xray tech, i wonder how this job would work for me, since I constantly am reading dictations from radiologists, writing my own tech sheets and reading pt charts and charting myself.
You would need to take a medical transcription course since they transcribe all specialties. However, as a new graduate, it would be almost impossible to get a job because the companies require at least 3 to 5 years experience. Also, we get paid via production with zero benefits AND we pay our own self-employment taxes, income taxes and social security taxes. Our pay is about 4 cents per 65 character line.
Medical transcription is being taken over by computer software. My university in Canada even took it out of their medical admin program as it is pretty much an absolute job.
Unfortunately, all reputable schools have pulled this from their curriculum because it is a dying field. There are schools that will tell you it is a great, career and take tour money. Most companies hire EXPERIENCED MTS only. The pay is abysmal at 3 to 4 cents per 65 character line with zero benefits. You are self-employed and pay your own taxes including social security taxes, self-employment taxes and income taxes.
I applied for a transcriptionist job for Quest Diagnostics. They called me today and I have a phone interview tommorow. Is it an easy job? I mean obviously I know there's no easy job. But I heard it's slightly better than being a medical scribe Do you need to have transcriptionist experience
