- Hugh Tracey is the man who started it all by bringing the kalimba from Africa and tuning it to a Western scale! You can still get his kalimbas on Amazon: amzn.to/3Qwsb7B

Hope you're ok Molly. No posts in many months. Sure do appreciate your radiance.
Yes, I just realized how long it's been and am wondering.
What has happened...no recent posts...miss your happy radiant smile...and your joy in music. Please give us an update molly please
I just realized how long it's been since her last video, and I'm wondering, also.
Hi Molly,
Nice to see you sharing your interest in kalimbas with your audience. Your HT Treble Kalimba looks to be in good shape for its age. However, the bridge needs to be move upward toward the "Z-bar" at top. You will then find it much easier to tune and it will sound much better.
I highly recommend contacting, or DIY learning tuning, care and maintenance from Kalimba Magic. Mark's blog is fantastic as well as his vast resources and experience.
You can also nourish the Kiaat (Mukwa) wood with Organic Shea butter, Walnut oil etc.
Sincere regards
Hey Molly, where are you? I'm a bit worried and missing you! I wish you all the best!
Yes! Where did she go?
I just realized how long it's been since her last video, and I'm wondering, also.
Just found your channel while looking for a review on the Balmy drum. So glad I did!! You are like my soul sister - I'm crazy for new, fun, exotic instruments and am just loving your videos! Please never stop making them ❤️
You’ve got such a good voice for storytelling! What a great video.
Are you doing any new videos, haven't seen you in a while?

Hope everything is OK. Looking forward to more videos

Very interesting :) do you play kalimbas in different tunings? If so would you mind making a video about some of them and how to retune them? Have a wonderful day and weekend :D
When more videos?
Are you ok? I check back every so often to see if your ok.
Love it!!
I would like to point out that the kalimba you show at about 4:30 appears to be tuned to concert C major and just starts on E.
Also sorry if this comes across in any kind of negative way; I’m not good at controlling my tone
I am new to your channel an I love all the musical instrument. I heard you say you are in Nebraska. My family comes from Seward Nebraska an Goehner Ne. was name after my Grandfather. I own a farm in Seward Ne. I miss the farm an coming back for a visit. One more thing I wrash my hands.
Nice old kalimba. I have the same one only a newer version. I notice on yours though, that the crossbar under the tines has slipped very far down the tines over the years. On my one on the shortest times each side, there is still more tine forward of the crossbar. The crossbar comes to just under halfway down the tine, so there is more tine to vibrate.
It might be possible to gently tap it back into position.
Hello, Molly - I've been enjoying your content lately, but I can't help noticing that you haven't posted in about seven months. I hope all is well with you and yours, and that life has simply gotten in the way of UA-cam a little bit.
I just realized how long it's been since her last video, and I'm wondering, also.
Hi Molly,
I'm hoping you will see this message. I know from your videos that you've built (from kits) both the Fireside Double Strung Harp, and the Waring Double Strung Harp. As far as quality of materials, structure, and sound goes, which do you prefer and why? Thank you for your help with this! Best wishes, Debbie
What about the Midnight Aeolian Triple Drone Flute from The Singing Tree Company?
On 2 layer kalimbas, if a tine is one semitone apart from a tine it’s directly above, does it make that strange wobbling dissonance sound like when 2 adjacent tines are one semitone apart?
I am looking for a diatonic 15 tone tongue drum, one that can be tuned with magnets and has nice tone and resonance for all of the notes. One that is preferably not too expensive because I need to buy 3 three of them so i can have access to all the naturals, all the sharps and all the flats. I was planning to tune one to all naturals, one to all flats and one to all sharps.
I play in A=432 pythagorean tuning so the all sharps drum I think might be better if it was based in D major, because if in C, I would want to tune the F tongue to E sharp, which is to say, I would need to raise the pitch because E sharp is higher than F. Now I know it would likely be tuned to A=440 but I don't think that extra tuning room would be enough to get an E sharp. Otherwise I would have to tune the whole drum down a diminshed third (C tuned down to A# with the ſcale being C# major).
With all that in mind, could you recommend one or a few tongue drums that would meet this criteria. Also I am in Europe so they would have to be able to ship here.
Thanks.
Hello Molly, where can we get your business contact?

The Kalimba which was changed adapted and taken to American is an African instrument, you are wrong and the original name of the instrument is Mbira.
So, I Get that you wanted to shre the story of how they came to be a thing here in the west. What I don't understantand is why you din't demo one or 2 of the more recent models? Why play an instrument knowing it doesn't sound good? Maybe just me, I'm a bit confused~
Molly's channel isn't focused on kalimbas so much as it is on exploring different world instruments, so I don't suppose that getting new ones is a priority. There are other channels on UA-cam that are dedicated to kalimbas or at least make a great deal of kalimba content, and I would suggest you seek those out if you are looking for reviews of newer kalimbas.
You quit making videos 😢
If only you can giveaway a kalimba 😊😊 for broke people like me😊😊😊

You deleted my comments! Hugh Tracey moved to Africa at the age of 17, in 1920.
Sometimes the UA-cam automated bots delete messages that it thinks is spam.
Um, the Kalimba is an AFRICAN instrument. Kalimbas existed before Hugh decided to take the concept and just simply tune it to western standards. If I take an ancient aztec Guitar and say well I'm going to tune it to C Major and call it an American Guitar, doesn't mean it's not an Aztec Guitar. Please give all praises to the MOTHERLAND for everything. If I took the motherboard from an APPLE Computer , swapped out the SSD and CPU for a third party choice and put a 3d printed case on it and called it a UA-cam COMPUTER, doesn't mean it's not an APPLE COMPUTER. SAY THIS WITH ME...THE KALIMBA AND ALL OF IT'S DESCENDANTS ARE AFRICAN INSTRUMENTS!
He basically copied Africans, it's defo an African instrument
Are u married?
Molly, i am also interesting music instruments. we can chat and exchange information. I think it will be interesting.
