Being an avid winter pike fisher in the fens in the past, fishing with the lines frozen into the water, what you need are skee-tex thermal boots, a pair of lighter fuel hand warmers and a gas cooker that runs on propane, not butane - although looks like you might already have the skeetex 🤣 Big congrats on 7k!
Congratulations on hitting 7K Alex, we'll have you over 10K soon enough! Love watching your films, they help to keep me sane as currently my fishing activity is non-existant although that will be rectified over Christmas week when I get to the Georgia coast. Keep up the good work, it's helping a lot of people (not least me). Also lovely to see that you're steam powered!
Great video, I'm looking to fish the humber in 2024, trying to find much information about areas is near impossible. So your videos are very helpful for someone like myself who's never fished the area but wanting to. I'm used to fishing the bristol channel. Merry Christmas.
Love the videos, and as an army vet. appreciate the deeper issues touched on. Essex chap here, and are a bit jealous of your northern fishing marks from the shore. Brilliant watch. JM
Well done mate on the 7K+ subscriptions and i'm glad to say i have been one of the 7K for a while now, so Congratulations there is no doubt you will get to 10K very soon. Oh and nice video and fish . Take Care and Stay Safe, Barry (the Wirral)
Eazy Alex you ok pal, well done on saving the blank with ya whiting. It looked like you was in bay 19 , it's not to bad down that stretch. I no some lads fish the woods end on the flood then on the ebb shoot down to bay 18, 17 and I've seen some nice cod come from there. You don't get long fishing in 17. All the best Alex from GRIMSBY.
Hey buddy might sound nuts but get yourself a hot water bottle. I got long ones that hold about 1.5 litres of water they are near 2ft in legbth and i think they were a tenner each so i got 2 of them and they go great down the legs of the sallopets. Not done sea fishing for ages but im hard at the Pike fishing so we share the love of angling on the cold.
Mate love the vids, can tell your a proper genuine bloke and it's not just showing the rods all the time so makes a change. Also yeah catch and cooks are the best videos which I'm sure you can tell from your views. Catch n cook anything will be a good shout 👌
Hi there, the awful angler, on the bank at East Halton our home village! It hasn't been fishing brilliantly, as you say, just a few whiting sometimes. Not had a cod since October but there has been a few at Goxhill, Stallingborough and East Halton, you've visited all three now! Keep up your good work. See you next time Malc and Ann East Halton xx
😂Nice one Alex...in fact I put a wooly hat on the watch. Keep it up dude...I think that you're reaching a lot of anglers who need this sort of entertainment. Excuse the pun but it is very warming. Top stuff.
Well done mate for sticking at it. I'm looking at some hand warmers at the min. As mine was that cold I couldn't even text the mrs back lol.. No blank mate so that's always good. 👍🎣🎣🎣
Haha yeah I was punching all sorts in when replying to Sarah. Funnily enough I got bought some hand warmers for my birthday so I'm sure I'll find out if they're any good on the next session.
Great video, Alex. Keep warm and keep the videos coming, mate. BTW, love the extra videos…just the one a week on Sundays was not enough! Two tips…Coleman stoves that run on petrol work better than gas stoves and Screwfix sell thermal work gloves that will change your fishing!
I think you need to invest in a pair handwarmers, several good makes on the market and or a pair neoprene gloves the sort with fold back fingers👍! Well known fact by carp anglers gas stoves do not do well in low temperatures, one tip is to keep spare canisters in a warm place or use a gasoline stove, Colman do a good one👍
Its worth a look at low water, see which bay has the most rocks going out in the shilt and try 4hrs up 2hrs down, caught my 1st edible sized cod there many years ago lol
Well done on the 7k, it’s your reward for clearing up what those pigs left in that lovely spot in Scotland. Keep spreading the good mental well being messages too mate - well done 👍
Nice one Alex 👍 Chanel doing great. I remember you last year live streaming in the back of the van in a howling gale not too far from there😂 And I was saying to Tommy earlier there doesn't seem to be as many whiting this way yet but thats a good thing, you know how bad they get, still time though.
You're spot on mate. So many of you nutters willing to watch me blank 😂 The Cod always follow the whiting mate, so as much as they're a pain in the 🍑 we need them little suckers to lure in the Cod in numbers.
Nice trick that with the gas will need to try that next time. Haha miss trunchable throw class 1 way or another the fish was gona die 😅 see you in the next video pal tight lines
75% 👍🏻 Another great watch. Its what it's all about, getting out and hoping you get one. Nice chunky whiting up your way. Did I imagine that both rods rattled behind you during the segment where you were saying about slow charging and then you got the 2nd whiting?😂 You want to get yourself a Jetboil stove, quicker than the one, and more lightweight and compact to carry too.
All good here, still no fishing, which is a shame but enjoying working the spaniel on a shoot, looking forward to the xmas holiday so I can get back on the river, if it stops raining
Firstly well done with the 7000 subscribers and Fair play for keeping out in those temperatures mate, I wouldn't even think about sitting outside for that length of time without a heated blanket 🤔
I'm tempted to head over to the mersey next week. Like you say its not fishing too well atm. The coast is the place to be, especially with all this rain we are having atm
90% after a dog walk on the beach. Too rough for me to venture out fishing, but must get out soon. Christmas period is not the best for me for a number of reasons, but determined to get through it relatively sane. One thing to keep me going is the thought of the Amble Sea Angling Club annual open competition. I fish it every year, and enjoy the challenge
Glad the dogs are getting you out there mate. It's a different ball game taking the dogs a walk compared to choosing to sit out in poor conditions in the hope of a fish 😂 Amble open sounds good mate, tell me more 👀
@@theawfulangler the Amble Open, organised by Amble Sea Angling Club takes place every January on the Northumberland Coast, with a great prize table and prizes for juniors and ladies, plus heaviest fish, heaviest bag and heaviest flatfish. Fished over 4 hours including low water. There are often well over 400 taking part, and is a great excuse to get out. I will try and post something on the fb page
Wrong cartridge, the cartridge is butane. Butane does not work at low temperatures, it has to be a mixture of butane and propane. It comes in harder Cartridges to be resistant to the pressure required to store propane. Then there are also only propane for very low temperatures. Here in Belgium, also in the Netherlands, at a temperature equivalent to the UK, I use the mixture and it works well in winter. Now the question is to confirm whether your stove works with a propane/butane mixture. Summer or winter, the stove always goes with me. In winter, the kitchen usually goes too.
Propane stoves are a bit specialist over here. You can get them, but the cost vs. the number of times I use one in these conditions, its just not worth it. That's why I thought I'd show a little tip for butane users like myself. But I appreciate you pointing it out. Never assume I know what I'm doing 😉😅
Hi Alex great video mate and well done on the 7k subscribers you deserve it mate you put a lot of work and effort into what you do to put up videos looking forward to seeing the next one tight line’s buddy
I’m about 60% but your vlog is lifting me a bit, biggest problem is being able to get out to do some fishing, spoke to community health team this week and just waiting to hear from mental health team 🎣🎣 Tightlines 🎣🎣 bro
Glad the videos are helping Jamie. And even more happy that you're getting support where its needed. Hopefully you will be wetting a line soon enough 🤞🏼
Glad the videos are helping Jamie. And even more happy that you're getting support where its needed. Hopefully you will be wetting a line soon enough 🤞🏼
Have you done a review on your Akios 420’s I’ve had a few days and nights going thru your videos I had a fury 420 cheap a few months ago and it’s improved my casting and the wife has got me another for Xmas and a power tip be nice to see what you think of the roads and what benefits of having a power tip for them is. Great videos
You will always get enough flame to warm the water. There are stoves that are designed to cope with lower temperatures, but I'm not spending that kind of money for the few times I'll use it 😅
Another Brilliant video Alex now worked me way through all your videos, cant find your facebook group Mate have you got it set for invitation only the Awful Angler doesn't seem to come up in search well for me anyway LOL probably me being thick
Butane/ propane does not vapourise when its cold! you did right by warming it like you did to get a hot drink. Even putting it in an inside pocket will be enough. But If its not you're heading towards being hypothermic! Judging by the other comments the fishing is not to good from the Humber back round to the Mersey. I know where I am in SE Kent both Dungeness and Dover (admiralty pier) are throwing up the occasional Codling, though there are still bass around the 4/5lb mark being caught at Dover. I think the sea temperatures are still all over the place.
A hot water bottle, honest dude .Fill up before you go ,wrap in your fishing clothes whilst on journey, keeps them warm and believe me shove it somewhere around your body ...ahhh warm as f...
I think a better name for this channel would be "The warm, engaging and convivial angler" Great show mate. ❤
Yep! Always a great day when he uploads. My unwind after work.

Big congrats on 7k!
I was looking at the skee tex the other day, but I saw someone say they're on the small size. I'm a 12 and they only go up to 11-12 😔
Great video Alex please take care and stay safe and warm 😊

Glad I can help mate. There are loads of marks to go at on both sides of the Humber.
Thanks for sharing Alex. 👍.
Thanks for watching Greg 👍🏼

Great vlog as usual Alex. Keep them videos rolling
Great video as always and in my neck of the woods. Great guy Great videos and very knowable informative videos.

Choco Leibniz,the biscuit of champions!
It does not get much better than this, great video
Great videos 👍 why not get some electronic hand warmers to put in your pockets to keep your hands warm 😊 they do a great job
well done in the cold mate cracking night with a great view i would say I'm running at 70% at the moment due to health problems but we battle on
70% is still a good score though mate. Its good to know what you're up against though, better that than feel crappy and not understand why
Well done mate.just another 3000 subs for the boat then.reckon you'll have it in the water by May next year😮
At this rate it will be funds that slow the boat plans down 😅
Just getting into sea fishing and learning a lot from the channel keep it up 👍
Glad to hear it mate. Even if you're only learning how not to do it 🤣
If your heading to Northumberland i would highly recommend reaching out to full circle angling. Them lads will see you with the best chance of fish!
Another great vid👍 .... spare hot water.... into a good old fashioned hot water bottle, stuff it down your front ... all the way down!🤣🤣
Yeah that's a good call that. My body was warm enough, maybe I need to invite hand bottles instead 🤔

Firstly well done with the 7000 subscribers and Fair play for keeping out in those temperatures mate, I wouldn't even think about sitting outside for that length of time without a heated blanket 🤔
fished that mark a lot as a kid, a short chuck just over the rocks and even into the shallow water as the tide is rising can be fruitful
Not fished over that way as I fish the mersey, but as the mersey is fishing crap I'm tempted to have a mooch over that way. Cheers Alex 👍
I'm tempted to head over to the mersey next week. Like you say its not fishing too well atm. The coast is the place to be, especially with all this rain we are having atm
It still beats the blank mate Weldon mate 😊
Yeah makes the numb fingers and toes all worth it
7k,that’s awesome mate 💥. There’s another big cod coming soon 🤞💪🐟🎣
Cheers Kevin. Just debating where to head to next week.
At least the weather looks better 🥶🎣🐟
Take a couple of hot waterbottles with ya nxt time Alex seems as though you've got the kettle, joined your Facebook in the week😊👌

Great video as ever mate. Can I make a suggestion for some warm base layers give zerofit base layers a go. Check them out
Good effort, can’t win them all though ,, try a gas with a higher proportion of propane, butane is garbage in the cold , propane is much better 👍👍🤠
New moon and bigget tides on Tuesday mate.
And I have Monday/Tuesday off work too 😉
Good video Alex can I ask where roughly you was fishing me and a couple of friends have been fishing east Halton past few weeks really enjoying it
You're in the right spot there buddy 👍🏼
Well done Alex shame the cod wasnt playing ball.
Can't win em all buddy, that would be boring
Cracking vid again 👌 👏
Thanks mate
Great channel m8
It's ironic that you need some heat to loosen the gas to generate heat. Must be frustrating AF if you just don't have a way to heat the can up.
You will always get enough flame to warm the water. There are stoves that are designed to cope with lower temperatures, but I'm not spending that kind of money for the few times I'll use it 😅
60% mate 70% after watching your video thanks well done on 7k
If ya bits are cold stick em in somewhere warm and not ya coffee.. just shows that there are still fish out there crack on
They're definitely out there Barry 👍🏼
Cheers m8
Nice one 👍🏼

Was that abit of Marty Pellow I carnt feel it in me fingers carnt feel it in me toes 🤪
😂😂😂
You could just give the gas bottle a good shake if you have no warm water to hand
You can, but warming the can helps to build the pressure better
Been Mersey 4 times no cod just whiting s and strap congers,, it's not like it used to be 😢
Everywhere seems slow to get going this yearm
Braid straight through …. So no leader ? What strength braid do you all use ? Interested in trying it on my conti instead of mono
No leader mate no. The rule of thumb is 10lb per Oz weight. I've never heard of anyone cracking off with 60lb straight through, though.
you need a diesel heater. but still not a blank
I keep debating the diesel heater. But I also keep debating getting a lwb too. So don't want to start chopping her about just to sell it
got one in the van i converted toasty
good snood will help and handwarmers
Im hearing nothing but bad things about gopro's! I thought they were the business 🤔 might be time for one of those new fandangled youtubers cameras😂
Chocolate malted milk moo cow biscuits mate
Top biscuit
Enjoying the videos mate, appreciate your efforts.80%...need a session.
