I know there's overlap on films, but it is the most concise collection we can get to date, minus The Hunchback of Notre Dame and the original Phantom of the Opera.
I’ve never understood that - for me that film fits in much better with the ‘universe than the 1940’s one that’s is colour and just doesn’t fit in with the other films in either tone or overall style Abbot And Costello Meet Frankenstein is the best - CLASSIC!
That’s kinda a big bummer that there tripling up they coulda added more and how come they don’t add the phantom silent film as well on the phantom disc
It would have been great if they teamed up with Kino Lorber and basically repackaged their release of Phantom. One of my favorite blu-day releases I have.
I really love The Phantom of the Opera! The Claude Rains version is the best looking version of the Character that I've seen! I really feel bad for The Phantom. Everybody was so nasty to him. They should be ashamed of themselves!
I have the Essential Collection on Blu-Ray that came out a while ago and all the individual Blu-Ray Steelbooks that came out a while ago and I'm highly thinking of picking this up eventually....sometime before October, anyways.

I've been wanting to see this films for at least 10 years now so happy they made this set on bluray. On Amazon it was $95.
See, I was contemplating getting this. I do like the Universal Monsters... Now that I've seen your review, I'm leaning towards "no". I'm not paying £100+ to get 3 extra copies of House Of Frankenstein and House of Dracula, especially since I already own the Frankenstein set on its own.
Why no silent films? At the very least, the silent Phantom of The Opera should have been included. Still, seems like a cool set. I've been meaning to upgrade some of these movies that I already own, and many of them I don't have at all. Thanks for the thorough unboxing.

Karloff played both 'The Killer' & Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde in the Abbott & Costello flix, but 'Jekyll/Hyde' is not a Universal Legacy Monster- the '31 version w/Frederic March was Paramount & the '41 version w/Spencer Tracy is MGM. It would have been nice to include the original silent & the '62 Hammer 'Phantom' , as they were both released by Universal.
I have the DVD set of this and i LOVE IT!!! I haven’t had time to look, so PLEASE help me out! Does this set have the same special features that are on the 6 Movie set from WalMart? The discs and menus look the same, just wondering if All those features and documentaries are on this big set. THANK YOU!!!
The original individual Legacy DVD releases were much more attractive. They came in a book like, very durable case, rather than the standard plastic cases for the individual blu ray release.
Universal is unbelievably shameless when it comes to the releasing of these classic horrors. After years of offering these movies in every single format (except 4K), there is not one new special feature to give people a reason to buy these sets. They've even recycled the old booklet from the 8-film essentials collection. There just seems to be no respect for the fans, who, judging from many of the other comments, will buy any old thing that Universal sees fit to put out. Consequently, fans will continue to be short-changed by Universal, who will continue to release these cash cows until people finally say "no".

And the King Kong movie sets and Godzilla creatures boxes set's. And they could start the boxes set's of hammer films Like. Frankenstein Dracula Mummy Zombies. That would be awesome another great movies to get, also the Wolf man

So the Phantom of the Opera disk does not include the 1925 version with Lon Chaney? That seems like a big omission.
I was wondering why in the booklet it had Phantom listed as 1925 but on the back it had him list as 1943

Agreed, the Claude Rains version is more a musical than a horror movie. Nothing beats the eerie atmosphere of the 1925 silent movie.

They have released 4 of them recently on 4k, I think it has Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy and The Wolf Man.

There was an error with the creature from the black lagoon discs so they stopped selling the box set until they fix the issue.
Instead of putting the same movies like house of Frankenstein they should’ve just put some hammer films in their like (the mummy 1959) for example
