      Thank you. I never realized, at first, how it would look to be honest. But now it has a shady atmosphere (even with the lights on) which I find cool because, even on a sunny afternoon, on location, it sort of looks like that. Cheers ~ Boomer.

    Your personal story about your pastor and your uncle resonates with me. I had family at the Pearl Harbor attack and my dad served in Korea during the Korean war. I'm also a veteran. I get your point about serving higher things, your point about history and about infrastructure. A price has been paid for it all. You make the hobby spiritual. You are open about your faith I wish I was stronger to be more open about mine. I've been in a rut lately got covid in Dec and that has just thrown everything off. With that said watching your videos today i stared playing with track. I recently got 5 switches and had other track. (I model n scale) so I just laid out a 3 track yard the I looked at it didn't like the way it looked and changed it up alittle now I like it. Going to buy a 4x4 sheet of foam to start moving on just a little switching layout maybe with a loop in there somewhere just so I can run a train. Love the way the trees hide and reveal the train passing behind them, and the way the light through the trees cast shadows on the brewery! I think it is important that trees are not modeled too dense to allow these effects - that's a benefit of using static grass rather than foam for foliage - though there is a place for everything! Makes you think about the lighting too. It really starts to come alive when you add the underbrush and the dead branches etc. Inspiring stuff!

    Careful sir, you are making God jealous...LOL! Great work on the trees and especially the bark texture. I wish I had seen your videos earlier. I have been racking my brains trying to figure out a good way to make a realistic bark texture, short of using....real bark! I just bought some earth texture paint from Vallejo because I saw another video where it was used, and it had a most realistic bark texture. I am assuming your fiber paste may be somewhat similar. I like how you etch the bark lines in the paste for even more realism. Hope my Kapok trees come out as nice as yours!

    Clever use of a couple of interesting stories to make a statement on the social and political issues of today's society.I think there will be those that get it and those who just hear two somewhat related stories both of which are sad for very different reasons.

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  2 роки тому +2

      I never cared much about the social and political climate when I was young and sowing my wild oats. However, the adults whom I hung out with reminded me, now-and-again, why I had the freedom they payed the price for. The study of history also played a big role in understanding what political ideology really meant and the dangers of it. ;-)

    I don't see how it can get much closer to real than that. I imagine you'll find a way! It's going to be a stunner when the brewery and the river are framing it. I believe the real brewery was white, which already makes the natural colors stand out. Yet I want to see that building in a strong medium blue because I think that would just make the greens and browns pop like fireworks.
    And I'm still going to marvel at the painted water effects of the river. Even if it's June by the time you're ready. Hope you're warm up there.

    My father was the same way as your uncle. My father did several tours in Vietnam. Before he returned home on his last tour as a Green Beret and Forward Air Controller the local newspaper reported he was awarded 37 medals for action. His nickname was Smokey." He came home and packed away all the photos in his den of his crews, his awards and citations. I asked why? He said most of those guys were dead. He was very uptight and difficult. We soon transferred to England. I remember asking him about John Wayne's movie of the Green Berets. His answer, "That's just Hollywood. Never happened." Years later, I was in high school and Jr. ROTC, I attended a Bomb Comp. A story was told of a tanker pilot saving a pilot of a shot up fighter jet and how he did it. My father was that tanker pilot. A few years before he passed away from cancer he was the host here for the Medal of Honor Convention, though he never received that medal. We learned more about his rescues of down pilots and forward air targeting from those in attendance. He never spoke of what happened in Vietnam. Never, except one time, when an Army Major came to visit and a local MP officer from the base came too. All three were in Vietnam together at the same forward fire control base. They had got to drinking that evening. I was sitting on the ground behind them being very quiet. Then the stories started coming out as "do you remember that night when we came under attack...? Well, it was an OMG moment! Much worse than the movie! It took over two decades for my father to mellow out. Sometimes, I think about him and how he would react to what is going on in this country now.
    By the way, that is a beautiful tree!

    Masterful! I spent 2 summers working at Crater Lake Lodge in Oregon and was impressed with the trees in the Pacific Northwest. They did make it challenging while railfannig for me to find the trains among all of those trees. ;) You're the first, and so far only, person I've seen using fiber paste. It will be interesting to see how your technique will translate into N scale. The Wester Red Cedar isn't found in Colorado where I model so hope in the future you may have a need to model some of those species.

    A small bunch of German soldiers caught prisonners where under supervision of a single guard of Bordeaux jail (Montreal detention center) to work in backwood of Québec Thurso & Nation Valley Railway (1926 - 1986) south of Ottawa on Québec side. They never try to escape from their misfortune logging work during their tenure there. Once uniform is remove soldiers are mostly human being. So sad what leaders thinking and ideology can create monsters with simple persons. So many, no matter the flag went back handicapped and mentally affected for the rest of their life. Unlucky fell and stayed there.
    In steam era the T&NV RR used MLW 2-6-0, a Shay and 1 Climax (or Heisler, i forgot). The 56 miles line switched to diesel with GE 25, 44, 45, and 70 tons. Those last where ex CN except one, # 13 without front grille. All main line 70 tons where repowered with Cat engines (13 with Cummins that could be easily started outside in cold winter) 60 pounds rails were replaced by used 80 ones from CPR, switchstand, cabooses, snowplow. 45 tons and short wood business car are preserved in Ottawa science & technology museum.
    Excursions on that logging line in gondola (boxcars were swaying too much) behind bent cracked, welded, repaired again old falling apart fishbelly or truss rod flat logging cars was quite an experience. I remember near the end, a former CP truss rod flat stenciled last COTS in Angus in 1957 ! Those crews were the most delicate and gentle one you can find. Managing daily run successfully with those falling apart was quite a challenge. Some cars survived the 60 years of service of the line. A former CP turntable ended up as bridge mainline and still there (about mile 24, before Singer). At the begining it was to make wood cabinet of Singer sewing machines. Then pulpwood. Nothing was wasted. Along the line former Barnhart log loader "cabin" were reused as cabans for oil drums, track parts storage. Fogmer Duhamel enginehouse still there use by Duhamel fire department as well as fuel tank (for speeder) from recycled GE 44 tons in crane.
    Good old days...sadly by gone.

    Wow nice polished effect. Great tree modelling again, but how you’ve tied so much of it together in the natural wooded area is just sweet. I hope you can talk a bit about how you did the deciduous undergrowth. That is icing on the cake! I see some Noch or possible Super Leaf there. I’m curious what you are using as the stems. Sisal, or a poly filter fibre?? Regardless you just really pulled it all together there. And as much as the trees are the eye grabbing, focal points, the underbrush is just taking it all & supporting it visually, and tying colours and structure together. Thanks for showing us some of the best modelling out there. As an ole art and graphic art instructor I can say this is the deal. Beautiful work / result.

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  2 роки тому +1

      Yes. They get a soaker dip and drip in 50/50 matte medium/water. Then I lay them out on parchment (wax) paper. I use parchment paper because I don't trust wax paper. The matte medium seals them and leaves them flexible and paintable as well. If you get any residual lumps (rare), they just pull off easily. You can wrap the fern around the wire before hand as well if you like. They should out live you this way no problem. It makes them "museum" ready. ;-) Cheers.
