Wow, that was very nice to write this out for her. Granny square is a fun pattern. I've always wanted to make one. I can understand video I just had to comment ❤❤❤
I noticed that round 4 and 5 are the same thing and it’s making more than 8 points. I skipped strep 4 and went to step 5 and mine turned out just like yours
I just completed this 8 point star blanket with no issues. Thank you for this pattern. If someone wanted to work this same pattern but make a full 12 point star, how would that work? In this video, you say Rnd 3 is the set-up for the 8 points, but one would have to modify that very first round: so, instead of 4 groups of 3dc, one would make 6 groups of 3dc, and then Rnd 3 would expand using the same technique to make 12 points?
When you’re starting a new round, what is that little maneuver you’re doing on the first double crochet where you pull the stitch out long, and then like wrap it around the hook somehow? Is that to replace a chain 3? Is there a name for that technique?? Any help would be above and beyond 🫶
It’s just a way to start a double crochet that isn’t a chain. You can do any method you prefer. Chain 3, this wrap method (I don’t know the name), or foundation double crochets, they all work fine and look great. Chain 3 is self explanatory Foundation double crochet: - don’t chain any starting chains - make a single crochet in the first stitch (or the open space as shown in this pattern) - put your hook in the left leg of the stitch and do a single crochet in it This wrap method: - Don’t chain any starting chains - pull your working loop out a few cm and twist your hook to the right to make one twist - put your hook in the first stitch (or the open space as shown in this pattern) and finish out the stitch like a double crochet, no need to yarn over before hand - the twist provides the same affect as a yarn over but it allows you to do make a double crochet without chain up before hand If any of this is confusing I can edit it to make more sense to you

Im watching this a year later, so perhaps you have made modifications. However, for a tutorial, you are going way too fast, and you have a bad camera position. Perhaps if you would either slow down or change the camera position, it would be easier to follow along. You don't have to do both. Either would be helpful. And as a girl, i like pretty nails too, but they are too long and interfer with our ability to see the pattern. So the best thing is to change your camera position. Chain 3 is self explanatory
Foundation double crochet:
- don’t chain any starting chains
- make a single crochet in the first stitch (or the open space as shown in this pattern)
- put your hook in the left leg of the stitch and do a single crochet in it
This wrap method:
- Don’t chain any starting chains
- pull your working loop out a few cm and twist your hook to the right to make one twist
- put your hook in the first stitch (or the open space as shown in this pattern) and finish out the stitch like a double crochet, no need to yarn over before hand
- the twist provides the same affect as a yarn over but it allows you to do make a double crochet without chain up before hand

a bigger hook would help! it creates more slack and helps the blanket not curl :)
