Julia Hartley-Brewer Rages At “Remainer Left Wing” Civil Service Over Dominic Raab Bullying Claims

- Dominic Raab has resigned as deputy prime minister after an inquiry found he acted in an intimidating and aggressive way with officials in behaviour that could have amounted to bullying.
TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by former Brexit Secretary David Davis to discuss the allegations of bullying made against Dominic Raab.
David Davis tells Julia that he “never saw” Dominic Raab “bully anybody at any time.”
“An accusation of bullying frankly left me open mouthed … clearly some parts of the civil service are obstructionist.”
Julia also criticises Labour attacks on Dominic Raab as “political, not moral.”
“I don’t remember a lot of these people being upset about Gordon Brown throwing phones. John Bercow was known to have been a bully yet the Remainer side were happy to defend him.”

Should Dominic Raab have resigned over the bullying accusation?
yes
Absolutely not, but all those overly privileged civil servants should have!
Yep

He should never should have resigned

He was evidently persuaded to do this by Sunak, thereby emboldening militant civil servants to repeat the exercise with someone else.

You have not got the faintest clue. What a load of nonsense. This was independently investigated! Very lazy. Why don’t you actually look into the detail.
@Gus Shredney
Hello fool … FROM the report:
‘he acted in a way which was intimidating, in the sense of unreasonably and persistently aggressive conduct in the context of a work meeting. It also involved an abuse or misuse of power in a way that undermines or humiliates. He introduced an unwarranted punitive element. His conduct was experienced as undermining or humiliating by the affected individual, which was inevitable. It is to be inferred that the DPM was aware that this would be the effect of his conduct; at the very least, he should have been aware.’
‘On a number of occasions at meetings with policy officials, the DM acted in a manner which was intimidating, in the sense of going further than was necessary or appropriate in delivering critical feedback, and also insulting, in the sense of making unconstructive critical comments about the quality of work done (whether or not as a matter of substance any criticism was justified).’
‘His interruptive style is not itself behaviour that could be regarded as intimidating or insulting. However, individuals who had previously experienced the DPM express an unconstructive criticism of their work (and understood it as a criticism of them personally) might reasonably have interpreted a series of interruptions as a form of implicit criticism.
The combination of unconstructive critical feedback and regular interruption is likely to be experienced as intimidating, in the sense of being unreasonably difficult to deal with, and plainly was so experienced by some individuals.‘
‘The DPM has been able to regulate this level of abrasiveness since the announcement of the investigation. He should have altered his approach
earlier.’

Just a tad more than ‘Raab is supposed to have forgot to mention one individual when praising staff!’

The civil service should be neutral without political motives, he should never have resigned,

And yet Raab's alleged martyrdom (the enquiry, which he requested and his government appointed found against him).

Its always bullying when you ask a person to do something, that they dont believe in, as their resistence forces you to push them to do it. So if a civil servant says i am going to ignore you, just sack them, if they dont do the job properly, sack them. IN fact any discretion, sack them. Remember it was Priti Patel who was asking them to do things correctly and they accused her of bullying. I think the civil service are quite capable of behind the scenes entropy, a form of MP bullying.

If you read the report on his alleged bullying, you will come away astounded with what they decided was bullying. The complaint was raised years after the event, and the biggest issue that they found him guilty of is that he said a report was poor rather than offering constructive criticism how the delicate civil servant could have done their job better. Our political system doesn't work anymore 😢
They called pritti Patel a bully they don't want to do their jobs.Sack them all.
I suspect its generational, but it's definitely starting to smell a bit of activism.
I noticed during my last few years at work, that, when our Operations Managers tried to get staff from a certain education background, and in a certain age group, perfectly healthy, fit young people, to not take a 20 minute toilet break every hour of every shift, they almost all complained that it was bullying. We had a 31 year old uni graduate (sociology, obv.) that would cry real tears and throw tantrums when asked to do any of the daily tasks she had eagerly agreed to at her interview for the job. They were all socialists, of course, totally at war with "the capitalist system", and would smear, slander and set up their colleagues every time a senior position became vacant.
They're weird.
Sounds strange to employ graduates in a shift job where you need to monitor their loo breaks. Was this person perhaps overqualified academically but couldn't get a better job because of skills or motivation issues?
Could be.
Could also be the choice of subject they had studied. Our night security guard in the retirement flats where I live has a uni degree, but he won't tell any of us in what.
We can but guess.
What a silly woman!
Raab was found to have humiliated and belittled staff, was aggressive and intimidating, shouted and threw things. I'll bet that is not the behaviour he would have tolerated if a civil servant did it to him.
And because David Davis didn't see Raab acting like a bully counts for absolutely zilch.
I think it's hilarious that the Tories are blaming the civil service for Raab's bullying. Because it's ALWAYS someone else's fault with the Tories isn't it!
How can one reform anything if attitudes in the Civil Service are so entrenched? Raab should never have fallen on in his sword.
there needs to be a Royal enquiry into what the civil service is meant to do, what they actually do and whether they deliberately obstruct government policy to satisfy their own agenda. there internal hierarchy also needs to be looked at to see if they are overstaffed and overpaid for incompetence.
People should be made to do as they are told when working in the civil service and deserve every ounce of scorn poured upon them when they fail to fulfil their orders, and their union should frankly not be allowed to exist.

"Give 'em hell, Julia!" from the USA.
Raab should never have resigned. Those complaints were spurious and not worth even considering. Not one of those allegations amounted to bullying. That Ambassador should have been sacked immediately, his actions were beyond belief. If a worker does not provide what is asked of him it is right that he is told off. He then has the choice to accept it and improve or resign. Case should have gone as well. Any obstructionist behaviour should end in termination. This is a witch hunt by the Civil Service. The PM needs to get a grip of this immediately and start banging heads.
Stop being a snowflake
What is the point of electing governments when our civil service is a law unto itself with no accountability to the public whatsoever? This point was more than made clear by Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister. Sometimes the minister came out on top but on not a single occasion did the will or interests of the people and most especially not these of the taxpayers. It was made clear that the interests of the Civil Service itself were above all paramount whenever they were involved in anything. The BBC had more power than just about everyone and everything with the interests of trade union bosses and the CEOs of large corporations a very close third when applicable. The interests of the public on the other hand seemed to be the very last thing that anyone was interested in.
Therefore if the Civil Service had a list of priorities of around 1000, the interests of the public either specifically or generally were firmly at the very bottom of it. The cozy, sometimes incestuous, and always insidiously self-interested relationship between the civil service and the BBC was also clearly highlighted and this was back in the late 70s. We have no reason to believe that anything has changed in this regard indeed it has clearly become even closer. One thing we can be assured of is that we will always have a taxpayer-funded BBC controlling all of our words, thoughts, and therefore actions unless a complete clear out of our civil service takes place. Indeed absolutely nothing can or will change for the betterment of this country or anyone that exists here until this happens.
"Some may believe that they should all be lined up against a wall and shot.
They may believe this, BUT I, OF COURSE, COULD NOT POSSIBLY COMMENT."
Those civil servants that obstruct the progress of there ministers are vindictive and should be sacked end of.
