she wrote the song about her relationship with her brother after she had a dream of her killing herself and nobody cared, and finneas was there for her when she woke up (and she wrote the song with finneas too :))
M 40 judging by the credits, you would be incorrect. She produced the outro to “bad guy” and has a production credit for it. FINNEAS produced, engineered and played every instrument on this one (he for real has like 10 separate credits on this song). I don’t agree with you that it doesn’t sound like his work, it’s very in line with the production on his EP but the thing is with them, their songs are so varied. None of them sound just alike to me but the beat coming in in the middle of the first verse and the vocal effect on the lyric “underwater” is signature FINNEAS all day. And since tone is hard to parse in text, I’m not saying any of that to be snarky or mean, just a difference of opinion from one fan to another 🙂
M 40 You can check the credits pretty much anywhere, and FINNEAS did engineer most of the instrumentals and some vocals while it was mixed by someone else. Also, it does sound pretty FINNEAS to me,it just doesn’t have the signature production style of “when we all fall asleep, where do we go”. I think your idea was pretty solid, but I think Billie is teasing at something else.
Seeing title: Oh, he's going to cry 100% Billie wrote this song with her brother Finneas because she has a dream she jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and no one cared. She talked to her brother about it and this song came out of it. Although, Bill's enterprertation was really interesting. Billie said herself that music is up to enterprertation and whatever view someone has is valid. :) Also, really obscure reference but this song would fit on the Death Stranding soundtack 100%
"Pretty much that whole song is about me and Finneas' relationship as siblings. We started writing it because I literally had a dream that I killed myself and nobody cared and all of my best friends and people that I worked with basically came out in public and said, like, “Oh, we never liked her.” In the dream, the fans didn’t care. The internet shit on me for killing myself, all this stuff, and it really did mess me up. She said in an interview that she had a dream where she killed herself and literally nobody cared, and that really messed with her. But then the corus is Finneas talking to her. This song is just so beautiful and painful i love it
Aside from the lyric interpretation, I would like to focus just on the music for a moment. Billie and Finneas are writing the best hooks I have ever heard and this one is like a giant beautiful crystal flower opening up and swallowing me wholly into a new world of emotions and I'm not scared. She is getting better and that alone is amazing.
Billie is actually great at writing melodies and according to Finneas, hugely gifted at creating and singing harmonies, which is a huge feature of her music.
@@pshort3518 I first became aware of Billie and Finneas accidentally when I stumbled upon a video of them performing live on Howard Stern. I could not believe what I was hearing but one of the things that stood out was how tight and perfect the harmonies that Billie and Finneas were laying down.

As someone who spent years dreaming of walking off the Golden Gate bridge, the line "stepped off the golden" hit me so hard. My husband actually walked it with me and proposed there and it meant the world to me. So does this song. 💙
Thank you for making this series. I discovered this channel a few days ago when I found your first Billie Eilish reaction video. Honestly I was a bit worried when I saw that it said “Trying” To Stan. I prepared myself to have one of my favorite artists picked apart by an insensitive critic, but was pleasantly surprised with a creator who is open, honest, willing to be vulnerable, and very in touch with his emotions. I really appreciate your willingness to let the music take you to an emotional place that is both uncomfortable and intense. Personally, it really helps to validate my feelings towards her music and also makes you feel like much more of a real person with your own emotions and problems. Your transparency doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated. Thank you for sharing yourself with the world and encouraging others to feel comfortable being emotional without being overbearing or clickbaity

Billie actually says this has been the happiest year she's had. if you watch the 3rd year of the vanity fair interview 1 year apart she talks about it and you can also just really see it.
i'd like to think that the dream she had of killing herself was everything she wanted at one point and now that she's become happier it turned into a nightmare that's just my interpretation of the lyrics tho
She said that it's mainly about her and her brothers relationship (in the chorus, the rest is about the nightmare), but that it has a lot of other different meanings. That's a really good guess though.
I love this song because I used to be suicidal every day for many years. (Stroke and brain damage was all I needed for my mental health to improve lol) So the lyrics, to me of course, she's getting what she wanted. To finally die and leaving no one broken hearted, the world keeps turning and we're gone forever, just like we wanted. But then she actually sees her loved ones not caring when she died and her dying wasn't as fulfilling. Then the chorus hits. My husband was in the room when I was listening to it for the first time. When the lyric, "And you say, "As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you" my husband did his little half chuckle of approval and I knew he connected with that line cause he's always been my protector. He's taking me to my first Billie Eilish concert next year. Was really awesome to listen to a song that was released minutes ago (when we listened to it) for the first time with him and really connect to the song at the same time. Beautiful thing art can do. Thanks for another video and always being so open and honest with us. It's tough as hell to be that open on camera, edit it, and then post it. Ya got balls me friend! haha cheers
You are honestly such a sweet-hearted person, man. Whenever you tear up I wanna reach through the screen to give you a tissue lol I'm glad you are enjoying her music and not falling into the trend of hating her because she is popular. Her music really is meaningful and the more people that give her a chance, the more I hope it can help them out.
But from Billie herself, she wants us to know what this song is about for us. So all of y'all opinions, ideas and theories abt the song is correct bc it's also a form of art and art is a form of expression
“I tried to scream But my head was underwater. They called me weak Like I’m not just somebody’s daughter.” This broke me. I don’t have depression but I do struggle a little with anxiety and it feels like no one gets it. Except my sibling whose a rockstar.
I absolutely adore the song, it feels VERY intimate and personal. Sounds like a reflection on her career. It sounds like that doubt of "do these people that say they love me really love me? Does being famous really mean I'm loved?" It's like she's scared that regardless of her fame, if she jumped off a bridge no one would really care... She's living her dream, has everything she wanted but sometimes it still feels like a nightmare. At first I thought the chorus was about her fans cheering her up but listening against it was clear for me that it's about Finneas. How he's always there to tell her nobody can hurt her and that she is amazing regardless of what she thinks of herself. Personally, the "they call me weak like I'm not just somebody's daughter" line hits me really hard. People created this larger than life image of Billie so it's easy to throw some harsh criticism at her and forget she's just a 17 year old girl doing what the likes, which is music. Like you, I just hope she feels better, and that letting these thoughts out in form of songs will help her deal with them and move forward.
Man, you have seen the Vanity Fair year three interview right? butterflies every time I see it. She seems so happy.. Love your content u made my day! 🥺💞
I just knew you'd jump on this! I just listened to it after work last night. She said on Instagram that it's about her and her brother and that they wrote it together about each other. So unfortunately it is something they are struggling with , but luckily they have each other to get them through in the end.
Also, u don't need to worry about Billie's mental health from this song. She wrote this song with finneas when she was really young, in a much worse mental state. She is in a fantastic place mentally right now. But it's so sweet how you are always worried about other ppl❤❤
I hope you watched the same interview 3 years in a row from the VF. It is nice to see that she made the jump over this dark thoughts. Its encouraging and feels good to see her like this with all her emotional music in the back of your thoughts.
Honestly I always look forward to watch your reactions! It’s always so interesting to hear your interpretations!!!i love hearing your thoughts and what you think the song is about....this was so fun to watch!
Man.. I love you interpretation.. gosh, it's like you open more doors for me to think, and it's beautiful... It's hard to find videos like this. You're down to earth, empathic. Really, don't stop. Your point of view it's very important
It was mostly a lyrical song..like a Bob Dylan type of good. It gives me the same feeling after I watched the movie joker. It was emotional and heart felt but there was something missing musically to tie it together, I still love it
They started writing this last year while she was still in the dark place. Also a while ago, she talked about how she had been having a lot of night mares and stuff like that and I'm guessing this might be part of that. Even though the majority of the song is sad, it does offer a hopeful, sweet part by saying that when she wakes up she sees her brother and he assures her that he's there and won't let anything happen to her.

I love seeing people listen for the first time.. she had a nightmare and she killed herself, no one cared and people talked smack about her. I knew he was going to cry but I love how you can show and knowledge emotions on this channel when it's December "Come out and play" that song is so beautiful and I think you should react to it
I already said that, but I love listening to your interpretations. I have my Theorie about the lyric, and what it means to me, and listening to your Theorie, is so great. I love that you are back and I’m beyond exited for future videos. Thank you!
This song was about a dream she had multiple months back when she was going through a large depression. In the dream she killed herself and no one cared. But when she woke up Finneas was there, like he always is, and helped her get through this depression. Because of finneas she is the person she is now. If you check recent interviews from the summer to now, you hear her expressing how happy she is. So don’t worry she’s okay now, but don’t forget that 2018 and early 2019 she was not okay, and Finneas (who the chorus was about) was ALWAYS there for her no matter what.
You got to see her live? Awesome! You mentioned the icy feeling of the song - I felt the same way the first time I listened to Sam Smith's "Say It First" because it had that same pulsing piano and drum with a build in the chorus. Also, does anyone else think her vocals really matured on this song?
she sent an email out to us (the people subscribed to the merch store online) it said something about the song is about her brother and her relationship and how he’s always there
I have to admit, this one had to grow on me. Every other song of hers I have instantly loved but this one took a few listens. As for your concern about her. She said in an interview recently that she's happy for the first time in a long time so while she might not have been in a good place when she wrote this she seems to be now. I actually didn't read into to it what you did though.
@@oohhyyeeaah I like listening to different people's perspectives on songs & i especially like him because he isn't afraid of showing emotions and being genuine.
I swear I must look like such a creeper only commenting on your Billie vids...but I just have to say that I adore you. You not being afraid to show your true feelings and emotions is refreshing. You cry...I cried. 😘
The song was co-written and produced by her brother. It's written about a dream she had, in which she killed herself and her friends and the people she works with didn't really care, as they'd never really liked her anyway. It's also a tribute to the relationship she has with her brother, how they will always be there for each other, love one another, regardless of what goes on in their lives. Beautiful.
this song is based on a dream that billie had, she killed herself in the dream and no one she thought would care didn’t.....and it’s also a tribute to her and finneas’s relationship as siblings....how both of them will be there for each other no matter what
i don't know if you've seen that but she said in an interview this song came to life because she had a nightmare where she killed herself but nobody cared, not her family or her friends or her fans, and people were shitting on her on the internet and being awful, and the dream really shook her but the song also talks about her relationship with Finneas, the fact that if everything goes wrong he'll always be there for her, and she'll also be there for him forever personally i also do think it's about her fame, the fact that she's everywhere but maybe she still doesn't feel heard, and all the shitty things that come with her fame (also can you please react to yungblud?
honestly, this is such a parasocial way of looking at it but personally i feel... really worried about billie eilish i've had chronic depression since i was a kid and i feel like i've felt what she feels, but she's also under a loop all of the time, so things might be... that much more difficult for her idk, yeah good analysis as always, bill!! thank you for putting your stuff out there

it sounds like ilomilo to me, the 4otf beat, the reverb similar to the echo, the way she sings. ilomilo is about separation, this is about together.
M 40 You can check the credits pretty much anywhere, and FINNEAS did engineer most of the instrumentals and some vocals while it was mixed by someone else. I WAS WAITING FOR THIS
You’re literally my favorite person on UA-cam ♥️ thank you
You have no idea how much I needed to see this today!
I knew he was going to cry but I love how you can show and knowledge emotions on this channel when it's December "Come out and play" that song is so beautiful and I think you should react to it
Mid- Night come out and play is SO UNDERRATED
@@peepeepopoo5115 exactly!!
Prison Mike now THAT is a happy, peaceful song from Billie
Ur lucky to be able to go to one of her shows.
I would ball my eyes out in happiness
And i would love to go to a panic!at the disco concert
You got to see her live? Awesome! You mentioned the icy feeling of the song - I felt the same way the first time I listened to Sam Smith's "Say It First" because it had that same pulsing piano and drum with a build in the chorus. Also, does anyone else think her vocals really matured on this song?
she sent an email out to us (the people subscribed to the merch store online) it said something about the song is about her brother and her relationship and how he’s always there
Cryinggg😭 I’m hugging you rn 💜
I have to admit, this one had to grow on me. Every other song of hers I have instantly loved but this one took a few listens. As for your concern about her. She said in an interview recently that she's happy for the first time in a long time so while she might not have been in a good place when she wrote this she seems to be now. I actually didn't read into to it what you did though.
Whatever Billie and Finneas go through I know they will be okay because if anything they have each other through anything and everything
"it sounds positive"
*oh boy...*
I love this song
I've been waiting for this!!
The song is about her having a dream she killed her self and no one cared.
Knowing that and then re-listening to the song makes it hit you different.
Do Brendon Urie's best live vocals or Panic! Bohemian Rhapsody live cover!
yessssssss ive been wainting for this
How do you honestly like this trash? It's a reaction channel.
@@oohhyyeeaah I like listening to different people's perspectives on songs & i especially like him because he isn't afraid of showing emotions and being genuine.
@@lourde8438 You're the type of person who doesn't mind stolen content cool.
@@oohhyyeeaah he only used snippets of the song but ok
I feel like you should do a TTS On mcr because of their reunion
I swear I must look like such a creeper only commenting on your Billie vids...but I just have to say that I adore you. You not being afraid to show your true feelings and emotions is refreshing. You cry...I cried. 😘
YES. THANK U
Beautiful.
TTS Glass Animals! They have a new single and I've been playing it on repeat. Love this song, too.
At first I didn't liked it so much, but now I love it. I had a dream very similar
Woo thanks for the video!
Loved your reaction btw. You're a really entertaining and informing reactor!!
you should react to her new interviews! shes so much happier now :)
this song is based on a dream that billie had, she killed herself in the dream and no one she thought would care didn’t.....and it’s also a tribute to her and finneas’s relationship as siblings....how both of them will be there for each other no matter what
i don't know if you've seen that but she said in an interview this song came to life because she had a nightmare where she killed herself but nobody cared, not her family or her friends or her fans, and people were shitting on her on the internet and being awful, and the dream really shook her
but the song also talks about her relationship with Finneas, the fact that if everything goes wrong he'll always be there for her, and she'll also be there for him forever
personally i also do think it's about her fame, the fact that she's everywhere but maybe she still doesn't feel heard, and all the shitty things that come with her fame
(also can you please react to yungblud?
honestly, this is such a parasocial way of looking at it but personally i feel... really worried about billie eilish
i've had chronic depression since i was a kid and i feel like i've felt what she feels, but she's also under a loop all of the time, so things might be... that much more difficult for her
idk, yeah
good analysis as always, bill!! thank you for putting your stuff out there
DREAMS DO COME TRUE 😭
Bil actually had this dream and she told Finneas about it, but she said that it has multiple meanings for her.
Great song!!
Dang I didnt know she was at this year's summer fest! I would've tried to gooooooo
