What do you do when Logic Pro isn't working properly!? In this video I demonstrate how to (1) Reset Logic's Settings and how to (2) Delete Logic's PLIST file. Depending on the issue, there may be even one more option before having to reinstall Logic. I had an issue a few days ago where, for some reason that I never nailed down, with Logic open, my whole screen was constantly flashing. I did a force quit, then a restart of my Mac, and the issue still persisted. I then went into the Preference folder inside my Library folder, renamed the .plist file, closed Logic and opened again...the flashing happened again. Finally, I went back to that Preference folder to find the .cs file, renamed it, then tried again. That solved my issue, but then that meant that the control surfaces that were attached had to again be detected, and that was relatively painless. It does reset some settings and preferences, but again not too big of a deal. Just thought I'd put that out there; per usual, very useful video. Thanks, Josh!
tq so much bro. your tip is so helpful. i ws stuck for 3 hrs didnt knw wat to do. i tried yr plist solution and it worked in an instant! Greetings from Malaysia.
Found this recommendation in a forum for a fix to prevent logic crashes when exporting regions as audio files. Haven’t tried it yet, but it sounds promising.
I didn’t first option (soft reset) and it wiped out my plugin library. I’m hoping it reinstalls everything to make plugins accessible instead of a triangle notification (now in process).
If it's crashing when you open the app, it's likely one of your plugins that is crashing Logic. Watch the loading screen when you open Logic, and see what plugin it crashes on. Try removing that plugin from the plugin folder and see if it fixes the issue.
it definitely werks, it fixed my Session Instruments, Drums Bass...that will lag a full quarter note. BUT, it comes back almost instantly. I want to know what I might be doing or the setting that is making those plugs fail
Hey Josh, There are more Apple and third party apps (Adobe for one) that deleting the plist helps solve issues. But I have a different issue with Logic. I moved up to Sonoma on a 2022 27” iMac and upgraded to Logic 11.01. When I drag or click “Quit”, I get a dialog that says Logic Pro unexpectedly quit and I can send the report to Apple. You have any idea which of these fixes to use to stop the popup dialog? (Otherwise, everything works just fine) Thanks, Gianni❤
Like when you go to Logic Pro > Quit to close out Logic completely? You get an unexpectedly quit error? That sounds like a settings or install bug. Maybe time for a PLIST delete, or try a fresh install. Also make sure to delete the .CS file as well as that file is there if you've upgraded from a previous version and the settings can sometimes conflict with each other.
@@MusicTechHelpGuy Yes. Even if I do: Command+Q I get the error. I bought a refurbished 2022 iMac 27” and transferred my data from a Late 2015 iMac Pro. Then I was able to upgrade Logic from 10.9.7 to 11. Then it updated to 11.01. Logic works just fine but the error message is strange. I’ll do the PLIST and the .cs and see how it goes. I know that if Logic really quits unexpectedly, the next time you open it a dialog says so and asks if you want to open the last version you saved or the version Logic saved when it quit? Gianni❤️
I used to be a very happy Logic user, but lately, I’ve encountered several major issues, including losing parts of my projects. Additionally, I often get the following error: 'An Audio Unit plug-in reported a problem that might cause the system to become unstable. Please quit and restart Logic Pro.' Do you have any insights on what could be causing this?
I've gotten that one too on occasion. Some older plugins may not be 100% compatible with Logic 11. You might want to go through your plugin folder and (1) get rid of any plugins you no longer use and (2) update all of the plugins that you do use regularly, that will typically fix that issue. For me it was older iZotope stuff I was still running.
@@MusicTechHelpGuy Thanks! All my plugins are already up to date, so now I need to figure out which ones are causing the issues. Trial and error would take forever, though. Is there a more efficient way to track down the problem?
Would that get rid of the processor spikes that seem to happen randomly. I know I've looked up solutions in the past, but they keep happening. I have an old iMac and so I can't update to the newest version of Logic.
Probably not a PLIST issue, but you could give it a shot. I also have another video here on 10 troubleshooting techniques for Logic that might help: ua-cam.com/video/AsDCgDLvcmg/v-deo.htmlsi=fdeI9hgcYXcEe5fy Or you might just need to try some different settings for your processing. In Logic Pro > Settings > Devices, the bottom four options in that dialog can be used to free up some processing power. Processing Threads, Buffer Range, Multithreading, and Summing. When I used an older iMac I would often put the summing on 32-bit while working on a project, and then change it back to 64 right before I bounce.
Lewitt Ray microphone. Very good mic. Has a really cool "aura" feature which senses the proximity of the mic to your mouth, and adjusts the gain to compensate for proximity.
I don't know about the specific model number. You can find it here though: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RAY--lewitt-ray-large-diaphragm-condenser-microphone?_queryID=cafaadc0bf3b7a3dee75ea2297795ac4&_index=production_products
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I'm in Logic, I open my Sampler plug in, but when I click on another application (Splice in this instance), it closes my Sampler window. When I click back to Logic it opens again but this makes it impossible to drag a Splice sample into my Logic Sampler because the plugin window disappears as soon as I go to another app. This only started happening with the most recent update.
Your instructions are a bit confusing. Are you saying to delete the plist. You just dragged it out. If we delete them. Will logic recreate a new plist when it rebuilds
I say that you can delete it, or drag it out to the desktop. Either way, Logic will create a new PLIST file when you boot it up again. If the problem is not fixed, and you want your settings back, just delete the new PLIST, and drag the one on your desktop back into the folder to restore your previous settings. It's just a precaution to not delete it, unless you know it's solved the problem.

Thanks so much for this! I’ve had a big problem for months that no one has been able to help me with. Deleted the p list and - bingo! 🙏🙏

I cant nudge by frames. Would this fix the problem?
If it happens in all Logic projects, it's likely some sort of a bug. A PLIST delete might fix that.
Logic Pro won’t id my Novation products as control surfaces, including a new mk4 Launchkey
Awesome!!
I think im at that point
