My favorite art in game honestly is fireball. I just think it’s hilarious that the guy gets completely immolated by a normal dps spell in wow.
And for flavor text, I love when they mix lore of wow and humor in one. It’s one of the reasons I love the hearthstone team, because most of them still want to make the game relevant to wow but still being able to make it it’s own thing. It’s so good that they have the teamwork to be able to do this
Still think my favorite card art, or at least near the top, is the OG Amalgam (Nightmare Amalgam, I think?) - the sheer ridiculousness of it that somehow manages to work with the concept.
And for flavor text I've always had a soft spot for Plated Beetle:
_"Ok, your party has defeated the beetle." "I put it on my head." "What?" "I put it on my head. Like a hat."_

The explanation for how the flavor texts are made is the best.
As an indie card game designer a lot of their process seemed to hit the mark for what my team ended up doing. I wish they went into more detail about their balancing process but most of that information is almost certainly proprietary information.

Thank you for making this video. I love getting the behind the scenes takes on the development process. As much trash as people talk about the devs, it's clear to see they put a lot of love and effort into what they do. It's hard work, and I hope they know we appreciate all of them.

Seeing a card at every phase of it's design process is fascinating. I wasn't personally super into the art/flavor portion of the video but the actual meat and potatoes stats/card text/balancing stuff was great. That's just me though. I'm sure other folks out there ate that stuff up.
I refuse to believe most cards aren't thought and made in less than five minutes and released just like that.

One of the card's flavor text I they really missed out on is Fist of Jaraxxus: "Not actually Jaraxxus' fist." Given the meta when the card was released, it would have much funnier if it was: "Found in a museum." Referring to the ultimate value play of using Harrison Jones (entered play saying that belongs in a Museum) that can destroy Lord Jaraxxus' "weapon" (his hards) and draw up to 8 cards.

Hearthstone always had that humor though, even in the early sets. Like Old Murk-eye is some shitty level 15 questing mob in WoW, but the text in Hearthstone at launch made him out to be the murloc's greatest champion.
Just a Lil nitpicking thing.
It doesn't seem like the design team understands WoW very much and it shows in the flavor.
Army of the dead being a shadow spell is just insane, it's like if they made mind blast a nature spell. Death magic and shadow magic are completely different.
Another thing. He said obliterate was had a blood rune??? The hell? It's been a frost exclusive ability for probably 8 years now in WoW.
And Lord Marrowgar, anyone who knows him, knows his iconic thing is BONESTORM!! And it isn't really reflected in the card. It should have been, deal like 3 damage to all minions and then add any that died to your corpse pool or something. That would make sooo much more sense given his flavor in WoW.
It's just a little thing, I'm super super excited for this set but just lacking that specific flavor that other card games bring or even past hearthstone brought.
