He didn‘t just get on a plane, he got on the Concorde and was in NY within 3 hours. Today (almost 40 years later), this is no longer possible! (Actually it‘s been no longer possible for the last 20 years!) This makes the whole thing even more epic / historic, because it couldn‘t be done today!
@@The1Mommalau The Concorde had been losing money for quite a while before the crash happened; that was basically the final nail. They'd need to come up with a profitable way to do the same thing and nobody's been able to figure that out yet. Flying that fast is really, really expensive.
I'm a 70 year old head banger, and I was one of the 72,000 at Wembley Live Aid concert 1985. I was about 6 rows back from the stage, and Phil's vocals were epic as usual. Back in the 60's 70's,and 80's I saw many live bands and performers, including Phil with Genesis, Led Zep(7 times), Deep Purple, Jethro Tull etc., but live aid was something else entirely. What an amazing concert this was, I feel so privileged to have witnessed so many great performances, especially in my opinion, the greatest live performance ever, Freddie and Queen.Whenever I watch the Queen vid, I can see the 32 year old 'me', arms raised ,clapping along to Fred singing Radio Ga Ga. Still gives me goosebumps to this day.
Wow! I can only imagine! I watchlive performances today and am soooo envious of those present! Most recently, The Big Push's "red suspender" busking session. Damn!
It was mind blowing!!!!!! They showed him getting on the concord and landing in USA getting in a limo and poof he was there! I cried the whole time!!! still gets me emotional!!!

He is a beast and living legend. I remember sitting in high school lunch period and watching mtv. It seems like it was always genesis or Phil alone, Billy idol , and the Police or sting
Watching 24 hours of LiveAid on TV is something I will never forget. I was 20 yo. Even from the seat in my living room, I felt like I was part of something BIG because it wasn't just watching the amazing (now) legends of music playing on stage, but that this was happening because together, we were trying to save people who were dying in 2 African nations from the greatest drought causing starvation in the '80s. Very impactful and powerful. Kind of like how we came together in NYC after 9/11. A feeling that despite our differences, we were all connected.
I worked Live Aid in Philly. I was 20 and it was truly unforgettable. I was a rookie crew member, so all I did was run audio and light cables for days, but I got to watch one of the most iconic concerts in history, from the vantage point of a road case off stage, seated next to Madonna and Sean Penn (whom I had already known from being on the set of Taps, when it was filmed at the Valley Forge Military Academy a few years prior). It was an honor and privilege to be part of something so grand, and witness all that legendary talent in one place.
HI, HUN. The Concert of all Concerts, was 3 days before my 24th Birthday, that July. A Lot of friends & people from work piled into my Best Friends parents big lounge, to watch, all together. We were drinking!! Proper drinks! lol & snacking from quite early in the afternoon! We all wanted to send ££ to the cause, which of course, was what it was all about. - Feeding Africa thru Bob Geldof (of The Boomtown Rats Group) - They had lots of folks manning the phones to take donations, but do you know, a lot of the phonelines were always busy, so we had to keep trying!! you couldnt electronically leave your details, back in the day. & When Bob appeared briefly later on, not filtered or bleeped out, just excitedly saying, " just give us your fu**ing money" well, we did. I'll never 4get that day. We were all there for fun, music, & FOR AFRICA. x
Phil Collins and Genesis drew sell-outs at Wembley for 4 nights straight in the mid-80s! He is an animal. Just off stage on the first London stage is Sting. Nice company.
I was there! In Philadelphia. It was the most awesome experience I ever had. The shoes was incredible. It had to be over 100,° inside the stadium. The sun shine all day. I was on the field directly in from if the stage. The wiring for the stage ran under our feet. People began passing out from the heat in early evening. The Philadelphia Fire Department came around mid-afternoon and began to spray the crowd to help cool us down. Unfortunately for me, because I was standing over the wires, we couldn't get hosed but had to make out way to the sidelines if we wanted to get wet. It hurt cuz we got sprayed directly with the fire hose but it felt so good. Madonna impressed the most. She came on stage just after high noon. She was dressed in long bell bottom pants, with a high neck frill blouse covered with a crushed velvet car coat. Her performance was impeccable. I still can't believe she did 3 songs in the frigging heat in that outfit and didn't pass out. I wanted to just watching her. And she didn't miss a best singing or dancing.
I was blessed to grow up in the time where we got to see these shows broadcast live on TV. One of the few times my parents let me stay up late because music was such a huge part of our home. I was 9 when this happened. Don’t get me wrong, there are still some great musicians today but, for me, you don’t get better than 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s music where songwriting still meant something. I’m raising my Gen Alpha kid to value that, too.
I watched the entire concert live on MTV. I even rented a VCR so I could tape it. MTV followed Phil as he boarded the Concorde, took off from London, and landed in Philadelphia. It had never been done before, and it will never be done again!
In both performances he sang the lyrics to "In the air tonight," but on the piano he was playing a song of his called "The roof is leaking." He was actually doing two songs at the same time.
I was watching on the day... in fact I was working in a bar. But EVERYONE watched that show... It lasted all day... The weather in Britain was amazing the whole day and over the whole country... something that isn't heard of in Britain... And I don;t know about America but I can confirm that All over the country there were times of the day when the streets were empty of people. It was a Phenomenon... something that hadn't been seen before and wouldn't been seen again. Just an amazing thing for Bod Geldof and Midge Ure to pulll off... And all because of a news reports from war torn Africa and the starvation that was happening because of it. Two musicians and their need to do something... times were different then for sure. Keep on Rocking. PS: Phil Collins is a s much more than Tarzan and this song... In the band Genesis since 1971.... and many side projects with different styles of music, jazz, soul, progressive etc, etc.
Just a surreal day. Didn't sit in one place to watch, moved around and hit up different friends with MTV (not everybody had cable). Huge party that night to watch Zep.
Phil Collins is a legend. He is such a beautiful man, beautiful soul... Please react to more, with Genesis or solo, Home by the sea, second home by the sea live is a masterpiece for exemple. Thank you for your réactions
Phil Collins is iconic! He was the drummer for GENESIS from 1970 to 1975 when Peter Gabriel (lead singer) left the group and went solo. Phil then became lead singer along with being the drummer. You have to listen to him sing this song while playing the drums. Fantastic!! I have GENESIS vinyls as well as CDs and the same with Phil Collins from his solo career. Live Aid was amazing!! I watched your QUEEN coverage and commented. I have been to so many concerts in my life, but I was not in the right place to see Queen or Phil Collins when they played here. My last concert was Elton John on September 29th - 2019. First row on the floor, middle seats. Very expensive, but the last concert I'll ever be able to attend. Listen to more of Phil.
The interesting thing... you haven't event started to touch Phil Collin's catalogue... more than Tarzan, more than a beat drop.... please react to social commentary song "Another Day In Paradise" by Phil Collins
I wasn't there because my Mom wouldn't let me go (I was 14) but I was glued to my TV screen and it was one of the most AMAZING things I've ever seen. Performers came from all over, some having to borrow instruments to perform just because they wanted to be a part of something that existed to make the world a little better.
This event may have started the first "watch party"! My friends and I gathered around the tv and watched the whole show. We were all about 20 yrs old and none of us went to work that weekend. Totally worth it, lol.
This was the year I graduated High School. It was awesome! I didn’t even know Phil played the piano until then. Amazing singer and a beast on the drums!!!
Believe it or not, a friend had new technology at the time in our yard on a farm...A Satellite Dish...A HUGE SATELLITE DISH he was running experiments with and 'Live Aid' came on. It was a whole different experience since it was done in tandem on both continents and wasn't available in our area on T.V. My whole family came over; Grandparents, Mom and 6 siblings...We rocked-out together. We didn't know at the time of exactly how privileged we were to have the ability to snap-on the radio at any moment and every station had so hot a tune, we felt we missed something when listening to just one song at a time...And, Phil Collins was 'SMOKIN' from 'Miami Vice' forward more than ever before with just his music. Was a fine actor, too.
The day before was my 21st birthday. I was flipping channels when I got home from celebrating and it was just starting (4 am in L.A.). Queen's performance is iconic. I never went to bed that night.
it was a whole day across the UK and USA of total awesomeness never to be equalled or beaten PHIL also setting a record never to happen again with the iconic British supersonic CONCORD being able to perform on both sides of the pond on the same day {:-) PAV UK
I am a 71 year old gal, I watched this at home with a group of friends in the far west of England, who made our own night of it. The most astonishing live performances, the atmosphere, around the country was mighty special when you know that Bob Geldof put this whole thing together in an incredibly short period of time, to raise worldwide awareness and money to help with the situation in many parts of Africa at the time. Check out the story behind it. Often we remember the concert, let’s face it, who can forget, but need a reminder of why it happened at all. It was the first worldwide fundraiser of its kind and while many have tried to emulate it, those performances were what made it everything it was. Unforgettable!
I was in England at the time of this concert (just before we came back to the US). It was freaking awesome - watched it on TV! GREAT music, GREAT performances, GREAT cause! 🙂
I wasn’t at the concert but did see a lot of it on TV. It was the most amazing sight and sound. The artists were all fabulous and the excitement and chills were amazing. I saw Phil Collins and Queen among many others. It really felt like a piece of history that could never be repeated
Have loved Phil Collins and Genesis for way to many years. 85’ I had a 5 and 2.5 years old, life was way different, but I watched live aid, we all danced and watched. Seems more epic now then back then, maybe due to Freddy ! I love seeing your reaction to artists that are legendary, makes me appreciate them a whole bunch more. I grew up during the best music era ever! Thank you!
Phil has always been a force of his own! He can play, sing, drum, almost anything yet seems to be a very humble man. I’ve seen him live as well as with genesis live. He is this great live !! I read the about section you have. Happy you made it to the states. I LOVE ur reactions. Honest and appreciative of the music, the artists etc. I’ve been binge watching all of ur vids. Best wishes
I was 18 at this time. I watched all the concert in the UK and the US loved every minute of it. I now have it on DVD too. It was a moment that will stay in history. I don't think it could be beaten again but I sure hope they at least try to match it! xx
The Beat Drop is what in my opinion makes the Live performance an iconic experience for anyone who watches it. Makes this piano version seem weaker but the live show extraordinary exceptional master piece
Live Aid is such an amazing memory for me. It took place on my 18th birthday...I would have normally been out celebrating my birthday, but me, like everyone I knew was glued to their TV watching this once in a lifetime concert.
Yeah, the original way he did it like this, is pretty dang cool, but I still love how the song & the performance evolved into the one you watched, where he has matured & does the famous drum solo. Both versions are stellar. "Against all odds' is another fav by him
Just discovered your channel and really like your reaction to most of the music you been suggested by other followers. I will suggest you check Mama from Genesis, as I saw you liked Phill Collins so much. Also saw you liked whiter shade of pale, so I will suggest you check Eurythmics o Annie Lennox. And as a guitar player and fan please check Chris Rea on The Road to hell his guitar skills and impressive deep voice will give you cheals..... hear the first and second part of the song. I experience most of the bands and artist you reviewed from the 70's, 80's and some of the 90's and looking backward was a privilege. Thank you for let us share this with you and keep going with this success. 😊🙏
Live Aid was brilliant, I couldn’t go because I had a three year old and a one year old child. We had it on tv all day and danced around the house for hours.
. We all watched it, the whole world watched. It was the biggest event of our time & it was truly exhilarating! In the tragedy of the Ethiopian famine Bob Geldorf got the world's entertainers to drop their egos & plans and do something wonderful that radiated within nearly every American home & most of the world. It was a once in a century musical event, emergency relief effort and a moment the world sang & wooped it up all together. In solidarity many other countries had performances in Tokyo, Moscow & 5 other nations as well.
Oh wow, I don't think you've done Against All Odds yet! You Really need to do that one. The Live Aid version is stellar. Also, Take Me Home from the Paris concert...
I graduated in 1986 so my generation music. As I remember he wrote this song while going through marital problems and it was a message to his wife to "Hold on" to our relationship but at the same time a message to the dude she was having an affair with. It goes along with his other song "Don't let him steal your heart away". Like "if you were drowning, I would not lend a hand and I seen it with my own 2 eyes. I've been waiting for this moment all my life" To me it means "The moment I'm going to kick your Ass!"😆 It debued on an episode of Miami Vice. The sound mixture with the show was revolutionary for the time. Had me on the edge of the couch. The drum break out to me is Combo combo combo jab jab and kockout!
Have you seen the old Cadbury advert of a gorilla playing the drums using the drum sequence of in the air tonight? It's awesome and has been viewed 11 million times!
I remember this day. It was only on MTV and the radio so I ran from the house to the car all day so I didn’t miss anything. My biggest regret - my brother tried to talk me into driving to Philly that day but I wouldn’t go.
Another historic moment is USA for Africa. Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Check it out. Also Phil has a song called Another day in paradise that's amazing.
You bring up all these great musical events from the seventies and eighties. This is why Gen X had the best music. We listened to real music being performed by real musicians and singers. Not techno beat made from a machine
From memory Phil said he honestly believed everyone else at the Wembley concert was doing the same. Not sure it is true, but the story did the rounds at the time
I wonder if the set up of the event kept him from setting up his whole band, including drums. Maybe all the artists did a simplified version so they could get in more performers. Just a thought.
I was thinking the same thing. Concorde!! I'm quite surprised they haven't come back. Leave it to Phil Collins to do that! He's just that great!!! ❤❤❤

Phil Collins didn’t fly to NY but to Philadelphia🤗!
@@inekebaalman3320 He flew to NYC on the Concorde, then to Philly in a helicopter.

Live Aid is such an amazing memory for me. It took place on my 18th birthday...I would have normally been out celebrating my birthday, but me, like everyone I knew was glued to their TV watching this once in a lifetime concert.
The day was amazing the filling was amazing and the amount of money raised was unbelievable.
Please check out phil singing against all odds that same day at wembly. He was so good!
Live Aid was brilliant, I couldn’t go because I had a three year old and a one year old child. We had it on tv all day and danced around the house for hours.
You are truly an icon! Prayers to your health problems 🙏🙏🙏
Got to watch some of it after I got home from work. It was amazing
I had forgotten this acoustic version. It’s great.
Wonderful use of sustain pedals. Serving the song beautifully.
He definitely perfected this song over the years!! His voice to me actually sounds strained.
Loved them, just like you are but many years ago. I feel privileged that I've lived with good music through the years!
Oh wow, I don't think you've done Against All Odds yet! You Really need to do that one. The Live Aid version is stellar. Also, Take Me Home from the Paris concert...
Live Aid...don't know if this can be done again. It was amazing. Ow, my heart...
I died a little inside when you said he's the guy from the Tarzan movie 🤣
You need to see Phil in Genesis. He was a legit rock star. Look for Mama. The video. His voice is crazy.
Have you seen the old Cadbury advert of a gorilla playing the drums using the drum sequence of in the air tonight? It's awesome and has been viewed 11 million times!
Listen to I Don't Care Anymore live at Perkins Palace in 1982. Or with Genesis live at Wembley in 1987-anything will impress.
I remember this day. It was only on MTV and the radio so I ran from the house to the car all day so I didn’t miss anything. My biggest regret - my brother tried to talk me into driving to Philly that day but I wouldn’t go.
The first song was great but u wait for the drums!!It's just how it is!!❤❤
My high school music!
-We can see a classic scene with this song, on the first episode of TV show "Miami Vice" (in 1984)
you should find the version when he is singing this while playing the drums
Another historic moment is USA for Africa. Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Check it out. Also Phil has a song called Another day in paradise that's amazing.
He was the lead singer of a rock band for years 😬
I was an amazing experience. It was groundbreaking. Unfortunately there were moments when the signal would drop or get fuzzy and sound static.
You bring up all these great musical events from the seventies and eighties. This is why Gen X had the best music. We listened to real music being performed by real musicians and singers. Not techno beat made from a machine
Answer to your question.
Live Aid was the most amazing event I've ever seen!!
From memory Phil said he honestly believed everyone else at the Wembley concert was doing the same. Not sure it is true, but the story did the rounds at the time
Reminds me of Sound of Silence by Disturbed
I wonder if the set up of the event kept him from setting up his whole band, including drums. Maybe all the artists did a simplified version so they could get in more performers. Just a thought.
You should check out genesis. That’s a great rabbit hole to dive into.
Wanna try 1982 in the air tonight live performance ? You re not ready.
You should hear Voiceply’s version of this
