Thank you! I drove on some snowy roads with 4-wheel drive. Dropped it back to 2-wheel drive and parked it. I'm unsure if that caused this, but that was the only thing out of the ordinary. I went into the house, and about an hour later, my wife said, your truck lights are on. Thinking it was a dome light, I went out in the snow in my basketball shorts and T-shirt. I ended up spending the next 30 minutes troubleshooting. My back lights were on even when my car was off. The "Hill Start Assist Not Available" warning showed on my dash when I started my car. I did a little research and found this video. I bought the part and switched it out. I had trouble getting the old switch out; give it a good, healthy twist and pull it straight out. I found the replacement part for 17.99 at O'Reilly's. THANK YOU!
I have to say thank you bro so I had the same problem but with my 2015 Ford Mustang where my car wouldn't accelerate past 60mph and then I would always get Hillis Asist not available on the dash and I also notice that I was able to turn the car on without pressing on the break so that was a sign that that sensor was bad so I swapped it for a new one and everything is back to normal on my Mustang so thank you so much for saving me time and headaches
Of Course! I have been saved by UA-cam so many times in the past so glad I can put this out there to pay it forward.
What a legend. Still saving people hundreds. Thanks man
Lifesaver! Thank you so much for making this video. in 10 minutes and $32 I save myself crazy amounts of agony
Dude you are the freaking GOAT for making this video!!! I seriously can't thank you enough!! I was about to rip my hair out trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with my car. I even changed the transmission fluid thinking that that was the problem. I'm beyond relieved that a simple, $30 part ended up fixing the multiple issues I was having. You're the man for making this!!
I have been having this problem and have been so frustrated. Diagnostic showed nothing. Thank you!!!
2013 f150 getting hill descent fault and service advancetrac. I swapped the brake light switch, and the problem appears to have disappeared after 30 minutes of driving. I had seen these suggestions buried in a few forums, then saw this video. Decided $32 was cheaper than any other potential troubleshooting. Hopefully this fixed root cause for good. Thanks for posting!
Did it work man?
It did. For about a year. Then it failed again. My mechanic took a look and ended up tweaking the actual brake pedal bracket a bit to make better contact with the switch. I think it's a mix of loose tolerance switches and loose tolerance brake pedal fabrication. If both components are making complete contact, and the switch is good, it fixes the problem. Or at least my version of the problem. Good luck. Cheap part and very easy to install in your driveway before paying a mechanic for diagnostics. Good luck
Great video ! Fixed my problem in literally 10 mins . Thanks
Bought it for $70 from part source in Canada and can’t thank you enough my guy 🤝🏾
Dude, I could kiss ya on the forehead! Thank you so much. You saved me a rental car and no telling how much Ford would have charged me. I bought part and replaced. Like 2 minutes of work and it's repaired. 😊😊😊😊
🤣 Hah so glad to hear man!
I cannot THANK YOU enough for taking the time to post your video. I was anxious about this issue and was prepared for an expensive fix. Your video was a tremendous help. I especially want to THANK You for including the box with part number. I was in and out of AZ in 5 mins. Great stuff, and Thanks again.
So glad to hear it helped! 💪🏻💪🏻
Wow what an inexpensive fix vs taking to the dealership. THANK YOU so much. No more issues/errors. It was scary while towing an RV to have to pull off a narrow road
I can’t thank you enough for posting this video and saving me so much money!! Like so many others, my 2015 Ford Fusion after the Hill Assist Not Working message inexplicably came on and it started driving strangely. Saw this and got to Auto Zone for the part as fast as I could. My hubby had it fixed in less than 15 minutes! THANK YOU!!
Love that! So glad it helped out 👏🏻👏🏻
Hi! Hopefully you can help me. My 2018 Ford Escape displayed the HILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE message, and simultaneously displayed the TRACTION CONTROL icon in the dash, and my car all but shit down, but it might as well have. I had to let it ride back home- down the street where it broke down- but I was unable to accelerate. It shook horribly the whole way home. Is this what happened to you? And if so, did this video don’t be trick? Please advise🙏🙏🙏
Alex you are Da man. This happened to me today. I went right over to auto zone and 34 dollars later I'm back on the road. Thanks a ton man.
So glad to hear! 💪🏻💪🏻
My friend had the same issue we were at work and I came out during lunch time and notice his brake lights were on. well we tried everything we could the brake light off, including the cargo light button, the brake forward and backward adjust button, nothing would work to get the brake lights off, on our way home the dash started bringing up all those error Messages about hillasist. I have no idea how i stumble upon your video but after watching it i fixed the truck with the same part another $32 fix thank you I really appreciate it
love to hear it! just like my experience
BROOOOO!! You saved me hundreds of dollars in sure. My truck started flashing the same signswhike driving in the freeway. It just so happens while in driving past a ford dealer here in Houston at 500pm as I just got off work. When I stopped and asked them to take a look they were a week and a half out on service and could not look at it
any time soon. Thinking I would have to call a tow truck and have it towed cause I was reading everyone else going thru similar situations and having to replace a throttle body or other things I stumble on your video and seen you have the exact same year and models mine. Googled a auto zone and they had 1 left so limped my truck there and changed it in the parking lot a 30 dollar fix!! Thanks for posting this video brother!!! You saved me lots of time and money I'm sure!! My baby is up and back in the road again. 🍻🍻🤘
So happy to hear man. UA-cam has saved me so many times, happy I could put something out there to help your exact situation.
We’re in Houston too & the exact thing happened to our 2015 f-150! So glad he posted this! 🤗
Im stuck on the side of the road and seen your video. I have a part on its way to be replaced. Your amazing, thank you
I will pile on. Not sure how much you just saved me but I know it was a lot. For others reading comments, my issues were brake lights staying on, hill descent message, and my engine causing deacceleration once I hit about 40 mph. I thought for sure it was a computer issue that was going to cost me $$$$$$$. It was this $35 part. Took me 5 minutes to replace. Thanks big time Alex
Haha so glad Kevin!! Anything to stay away from the “stealership”
I was in this exact same situation! Still can't believe that such a simple part failing could cause so many issues
Thank you SOOOOOO much for posting this. What a nice thing to do. Saved me time, money and a huge inconvenience!!! You rock!
I had all the signs and symptoms ( 2015 F-150 ) you described in this video. Followed your lead and bammm. It worked!! Thanks a bunch for sharing this video!! GB you!!
So glad!! I love figuring out stuff and not needing to bring my truck to the “Stealership”
@@AlexMacDIY hey man. You are a blessing in many ways. Just know that……
This video just saved me! My truck literally had all these symptoms thanks for the video
So glad to hear it could help!
I cannot thank you enough for posting this video, I have a show this weekend that’s very important and today all of a sudden my truck started bogging and my brake lights wouldn’t turn off. If I wouldn’t have found this video I would still be searching for throttle bodies in rack and Pinion since my truck is out of warranty I cannot thank you enough sir. Send me an address so I can send you some chocolates 😂😂
Haha no need. Glad to help!
My man. You just saved me hours of troubleshooting and made it a much cheaper fix then I thought it would be. 2015 Ford Edge, same problem, same fix. Much appreciated.
You the man Alex. This happened to me a couple of years ago and I got fleeced at the QuikLane. Happened again yesterday and I got it sorted in like an hour. Appreciate your video!
Thank you so much for this video!!! You got a new subscriber.. We changed the brake fluid little tank and the booster cylinder then the “hill assist not available” came on. We were going crazy!! I have a 2016 F150 XLT the number part for that is SW8241- Stoplight Switch. I hope this is helpful for other people.
Thank you so much for posting this!! My husband was going to bring his truck into the dealership after saying he already tried to look up what could be wrong with it. Although he didn’t include that hill assist start wasn’t available. So glad I looked it up after he told me he already did lol I swear some men think they know better than women sometimes. And it’s not the first time I’ve helped with issues such as this 🤦♀️
Haha love that! So glad it helped.
Mate you are a champion. I had the identical problem and removed the switch. Opened it, cleaned the terminals and it all seems good now. Just about to do a road test.
Road test was okay except when I tap brake the cruise doesn’t switch off. I have to push the brake a lot more to make it switch off now.
I found the mistake that caused my second self inflicted fault, make sure when reinstalling the switch the little black rotary part is lined up with the blue catch prior to pushing the switch through the hole, THEN rotate it to lock it in place.
Just had the same issue. Noticed my brake lights were on and couldn't get to accessory mode either. Thankfully I went this route as well. And it seemed to resolve my hill decent fault and lost of power/acceleration. Great video, wish I saw this earlier. 👍
Glad it helped 💪🏻💪🏻
What's the name of the part?
I have all the same symptoms will try tomorrow thank you
Just fixed all the problems I was having.
Worked for me. Hill assist fault and back light wont turn off. Changed this sensor and truck is back to normal!
I have a 2015 XLT and it worked. Thank you so much!
You deserve all the good in the world....thank you
I thought I had this exact problem. I bought the part from the video, and when I went to install it, I realized there was a small landing pad on the brake arm that the actuator hits. Well, my little landing pad was shattered and partially missing. The actuator was extending the thickness of quarters when the brake pedal was at its resting position. The over extension told the computer I was pressing the brake….I taped two quarters together and taped them where the little pad was, and all my problems went away. I’ll see if I can find the actual pad replacement somewhere. 2015 lariat F150…but thank you for the video. It got me looking in the right area…..can anyone else look to see if their pad is missing or damaged?
Great to know!
Thank you for this video! Just saved my 2015 F150 was definitely stressing about it being something worse.
Glad it helped 💪🏻💪🏻
Just want to thank you for this video our Ford truck 2015 150 was doing the same thing took your advise and it worked thank you 😊 🙏 so much
So glad to hear!!
Thanks for the help. Less than $20 to fix. Thanks
Thanks a ton man! This fixed my “Hill start assist not available”. It was $32 at auto zone. It sure was a bitch removing the switch even after I turned it a quarter clockwise. Almost had to break the old one to get it out. New one went in easy.
So glad to hear!!
OK, Thanks for the video. My 2015 just started doing this. It really freaked me out when it did it the first time. It seemed like it happened when I was going at a slow speed (say about 30-35mph), tap the brakes and then accelerate. I'm not certain of that pattern. I shut the truck down, waited a minute and then restarted and it acted normal. It did the fault a few days later and it took 2 shut downs to get it to reset. After that I went to the local emporium and got the part and put it in. I haven't had any further issues, but I haven't driven it that much yet. We'll see...
Major Update! Took a trip from Oklahoma to Florida. No trouble until Louisiana. Then the trouble increased in frequency and required many instances of emergency pull overs from highway speed to the shoulder. Once in Florida, codes were set hard and I located a service guy and he checked the codes and installed a new throttle body. This cured the problem and I didn't have any issues on the drive home! Good luck!
My truck just got these symptoms today, I’m going to order that part and hopefully that fixes it!
Hope it does!
Thank you for the video!! This fixed my issue too! Saved me a lot of time and money!!!
Glad it helped!
My 2017 hill descent light came on showing its off. And something about advanced trac off. No problem w it running. Same fix ??
Thanks , this was very helpful, saved me money big time
Glad to hear William!
Nice video man, I think this is the problem I'm starting to develop. Doesn't happen often but when it does I'm usually turning left or right at a slight incline downhill so I'm going to try this first, thank you
Thanks! Yea definitely check it out. Easy and cheap fix.
Did that fix your problem too, man?
I have same problem with my ford explorer 2016 , is it same part or it's different!! Thanks for helping ppl bro ,God bless
Same here mine is 2016 Ford Explorer n showing same light did u ever solve the problem
good work!!!! ps. whens the next scout vid really wanna see the body fitment with the new motor!
Gonna release a vid next week to see where we are at, give an update and show what needs to be done. Thanks for following!
What is the name of this switch mine just started with this problem 🤣 and I have to fix it my brake lights won’t turn off so I literally disconnected the battery 🤣 🤦♂️
Brooooo!!! Thank you so much for this video. Had Same exact issues tha you described. Got my part from oreileys for 17.99. 2015 f150 xlt 5.0 v8. Good as new 👍🏻
Love to hear that!! So glad it helped
I’ll try it and get back to you
Thank you for that i will try to check that out on my focus.
Life saver best tip on the net here!
Glad it helped!!
Thanks
Thank you so much, just solved my problem!
Thanks to you but most importantly my best friend Roger for if it wasnt for him , he would not of referred me this video!!
On my fusion 2014, the switch is stuck. I rotate it clockwise but didn't turn much all I hear one or two clicks. kept trying until I broke the plastic pad (stopper) and it fell down 🤦♂️
My 2016 Ford Explorer showing all those lights 😿I hope the same part will fix the problem
These new vehicles are sooo over engineered…..if you need help holding the brake while on an incline you shouldn’t be operating a motor vehicle.
Don’t be stupid, its extra safety
I got the hill clime assist malfunction after replacing the steering knuckle. I’ll be it shorted that out
Great Video Bud, Thanks!!!
Thks! I'm curious if this it's called the same on a 2014 and if it in the same place?
Headed to get the part now! Thanks!
Great! Let us know if it fixes the issue.
Happened today.. brake lights on and friend out in a new switch but the wrench sign came up after. Does it just need to reset?
Sorry Susan, I’m not a ford tech I was just sharing what fixed my issue.
My recommendation; Head over to an auto parts store so they can scan your car and tell you what codes show up. Then research from there on google. That’ll give you a much better idea of what the issue is so there’s no surprises if you get someone to fix it.
Hello, good evening, I hope you respond to my comment, I have a Ford Fiesta 2013 S and the brake is on on a slope and when I put it on R or D it just doesn't move, I have to accelerate a little and that happens every time I stop a stop or traffic light, do you think that's the solution?
So is this the same as HILL START ASST NOT AVAILABLE? I HAVE A 2016 F150.
I do remember hill start error popping up but I can’t verify that it’s the same
@@AlexMacDIY whats the part number bro? Ima go ahead and change it out its worth the try for that cheap. TY.
@@jakkobg1981 watch the video. I hold the part number and box up.
@@AlexMacDIY ya I did I forgot you showed it lmao
Preciate it brother, huge help!
you think this would work on the Ford Escape 2016? That hill assist is not fun to go thru when you are driving in traffic or anywhere.
DId you try it?
Huge thanks!!!
We're you also getting hill decent control fault and pre collision assist not available?
I believe so yes
Replaced on my 2019 F150, did not fix the problem
Thanks. Your solution worked.
Thank you
Thanks for the vid. It worked
So glad to hear!
Thank you. Very helpful.
Glad to help!
Thank you brother!
My 2015 fusion is doing this right now! Did your truck go into limp mode?
Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much!!!!
Maybe having same issue right now. Where is this part located on the truck?
Right above the brake pedal
@@AlexMacDIY I should have mentioned I have a 2018 F250 6.7 - maybe not same issue or placement
@@dirtydollyfishingcharters2745 wouldn’t be able to help you there.
Do you just pull the piece out, it’s so hard to get out?
Rotate and pull. Look at the new part and you’ll see how it installs
Thank you!!!!
I bought that part and didn’t work for me. My issue is pretty much the same but when stopping on hill. Feels like the brakes don’t release after letting go of the brake pedal. Took it to the Ford dealership and they are useless. They say that can’t fix it if it doesn’t give them a code.
Damn sorry to hear man. I hope you find the solution soon
Sure miss my 1966 mustang. NO computer anything anywhere. Keep a spare set of points in the glovebox and go for 50,000 miles. No bs. Drive your own new car for less than $3,000 and be able to maintain it yourself with minimal tools. Don’t have to rely on China for chips or anything else.
all Fords have the same issue!!!! everyone!!!
Where do I put in
Does this work for a 2015 hybrid fusion?
It should. The only thing that would be different is where that key slot it that would program the key
@@AlexMacDIY I went to AutoZone to get the piece didn't come up in their system. Would it be under another name?
Feels weird when pressing the brakes
Did not work for me
Sorry to hear- this is a low cost attempt to fix the issue before going to the dealer for a more in depth diagnostic
This did not work
Sorry to hear that. You must have issues beyond the brake controller switch then. Time for code check or mechanic visit
You have an odd accent. I replaced this part yesterday. I got it at the dealership, $74.00.
Haha how so? Welp it cost me 32$ at autozone
There is a thumb button on gear xhifter
Yeah for Tow-Haul / Sport, Nothing to do with Hill Decent, so whats your point?
Thank u so much sir that's so helpful.
Did not fix
Seems you would have a failure in another system then. Sorry to hear that
