    Guys its advised to keep layer chickens in good layer feed at all times (letting them eat when they want to eat not rationing them) to keep their egg production as good as possible. Its scratch feed that should be rationed. Once theyre used to not being rationed they will only eat when hungry, it may take a while. The "they go through a sack in a few days" may simply be they were in survival mode still (as in stuffing their faces because they dont know there wont be rations again) so should drop down and stabilise once they realise the food is available whenever they want to eat. Most chicken owners keep layer feed available at all times (take a look at coghill farm or grandpa doss farms or many others - i know you have the chicken master too for advice but may help you looking at others too, to see that they still eat bugs etc even when food is down and available at all times and that theyre not simply gorging themselves - it may just take a little for them to come out of survival mode and slow down til they realise the food isnt going to be rationed anymore) And giving them a really decent layer feed like Kalmbach again will keep them as healthy as possible and laying as much as possible. Adding a light through the winter will help too as they obviously need the daylight to produce eggs too.
    This is direct from the kalmbach website when asking if chickens will lay more if they get more food (feel free to google but if i post a link youtube usually hides the comment)
    Will a chicken lay more eggs if I feed it more?
    If an animal is nutrient deficient (or stressed!), the first thing she will sacrifice is egg production. Keeping a high-quality layer feed, such as our Henhouse Reserve® or All Natural 17% Layer, available for your hens at all times is the #1 way to help them lay more eggs.

    if you want the girls to lay more eggs, u could put a low wattage bulb in the chicken coop on a timer so it just extends the daylight. Lily is styling it. Love it

      Is there any way you could build a room connecting the walls to the Thunder Dome and the wash room. You could use that as a storage room for your canned food. Also put the chest freezer in there . Just Hava a door in the front and that way you would not be cutting into either building. Very convenient for Roxanne also

    Anthony, rails for a hump/bridge are simple enough. Use cuts that are strong enough for your purpose and cut in 3-5 segments on small angles at the end. Use internal support of metal rod (drilled through middle) and fasten together with scabs and using the keystone style of construction. Sounds complicated, but is really quite simple. the underpinning can be any design you wish depending on the weight going over the bridge.

    If you want your hens to lay eggs don't cut the rations in half. Remember when you fed them all they wanted and the bag was gone in 3 days? You had all them eggs and now you're rationing their food to half that and you don't have any eggs. Also a small light inside the coop to give them a couple more hours of light per day. You do those two things and you'll keep having lots of eggs. The cold has nothing to do. It's food and daylight.

    It would be a short project to do a single zip line rope then later a tightrope bridge. Just 3 ropes long enough to go across from a sturdy tree to another sturdy tree. Then maybe a deep hook in the tree fasten the rope to. So it's portable to take down the rope for elsewhere use and the hook could be used for hanging a solar light or whatever if desired. Then anoteher time Lil project - upgrade to a swinging bridge by subbing for the walking tightrope a rope ladder. Rope on each side with rope rungs threaded thru wood slats. Still portable reusable rope. Then upgrade another time. Get lots of video content that way

    Have you ever thought about a step down bridge from the back deck to the thunderdome? The steps could come down both sides to the pole barn and to the bbq deck and still have a gate to the back deck to keep the dogs off. It would have a nice flow.

  • @deesmith3207
    @deesmith3207 Рік тому

    Just a suggestion here, but I would put a big fence around your house, the pole barn and thunderdome for your dog's. Otherwise, I worry they could hurt themselves constantly trying to get out so they could be near you. Plus, life gets busy and you will be less likely to spend quality time with them if they are not right there with you.

    You could build a flat high bridge but build it with steps at both ends. That way you could have it tall so when the water is higher you have clearness for water flow under it, and stairs at both ends of them bridge. Just an idea.

    just tossing out a possibility suggestion when it comes food preservation you guys have great framily possibly of community building that all could share in building and equipping with items needed for the process
    have seen something similar
    a town has a building with commercial kitchen that's available to small business to process they're goods from canning to bake goods from salsas to cookies and cake or pies packaged, labeled even room for inventory
    then sell online or manage to get shelf space in community stores
    while this be bit much for you guys
    the shared cost among framily on smaller scale
