I've watched this video like 20 times no joke 💀 Not in the same day but I just come back to it every so often, or I'll listen to the recording from the live album
took my 18 year old boy to this show....he worships les claypool.....after a mindblowing, earsplitting 3 HOUR concert (they played 'moving pictures' start to finish)....my kid says 'ok, dad now i get it'
You sir, are a fine parent! I did the same with my kid, played a lot of Rush, Zeppelin, Steely Dan etc... he thanks me to this day because... and I quote. “Dad, I have you to thank for showing me good music, otherwise I would likely just be listening to rap like the rest of my friends.” He’s 28 now. Man time flies! (Time Stand Still)
And WHY in the hell would I make that up? Jesus H. Christ... And I wonder why I try to stay away from the comments section. Please.. .Feel free to call me, call him, why on friggin earth would I make it up???? It is what the kid said to me.
maredevil1 I don't think he was really ruining the joke by saying when he got it. Actually, if someone can learn a fact about the band from his comment, then that's not a bad thing.
Yeah, rhere are some really iconic bass players that can make the bass a lead instruments, and geddy lee, les claypool, jaco pastorius and a few others really made it.
Geddy brought me to Christopher Squire. And quite honestly and instantly I've never looked back. I love Ged, but Ged loved Squire. Tracing roots is where it's at...
He isn't actually playing hard. He could do this all day. I doubt he even has many calluses. I'm a session player and play all day and I have minimal calluses.
Jaco is the best bassist of all time in terms of raw skill. Geddy is the best bassist of all time, in my humble opinion, in terms of musicality -- he does a great job combining his skill with melodious, easily-accesable themes.
@@pilummurialis6490 Yep; I am very acknowledging of John Entwistle. He is right up at the top apex of the greatest bassists in rock, just as well (although, this sort of judgement is rather subjective, and perhaps not overly objective).
@@pilummurialis6490 Well, just like anybody else, you are entitled to your own opinion. However, in my humble opinion, Geddy Lee and Chris Squire are right up there, neck and neck, alongside John Entwistle, and perhaps some others (like Jack Bruce), as some of the very greatest bassists in rock.
Every time I listen to this, I'm blown away. Really wish Geddy would've done a solo or two on the CA show I went to, but oh well, it was still beyond words.
If only he was from the USA, maybe they would have chosen him to play the national anthem for Kobe's last game, thus sparing us from the trainwreck that was Flea's performance.
Exactly, i mean flea's heart was in the right place at that time, like hes extremely talented at the end of the day, theres no denying that, but he just missed the mark with what he did, it was pretty bad but i think he probably learnd something after that situation, i wish he would of just playd it like normal, with mabe a loop pedal...
There is no such thing as the BEST bass player, it is down to personal opinion, FOR ME I prefer Geddy to Flea because I prefer his creative output as a bass player...as for Alex, he is my fave guitar player, you could argue there are more technically gifted players, but technique is multi-faceted, Alex has great fluency for example, which many, many faster players COMPLETELY lack...music is in the ear of the beholder...
Pretty good, to be sure, but to be truly cool, he should have mimicked John Entwistle's expression of total boredom--almost sighing--while motoring on the frets.
I was wondering if should get a guitar like everybody is saying or a bass witch I prefer, they said you couldn't do anything with it, obviously they haven't ever heard this. Fuch then all I'm buying a bass !
Geddy has said on multiple occasions that a lot of his tone comes from his right hand attack, and he has admitted that he really whacks the bass to get the tone that he does (which is fairly evident from analyzing his recorded output with RUSH). If you ever get the chance to hammer away at a Geddy Lee Jazz bass, you'll definitely hear similarities in tone. IDK if you were even seeking help to begin with, but hopefully you took something away from that :P Happy slapping ^_^
Geddy; "Ok, So I'll put my solo between these songs. What?" Alex and Neil:" You're going to play without us?" Geddy : Ugh, Fine. Just keep it down and no stealing the show" Alex and Neil:" Yay !"
he used two orange AD200B's here im pretty sure he also uses two sansamp rpm's and palmer speaker simulators its on rush's website actually you can check it there
Rush is what happens when you take 3 extremely gifted musicians and mash them together. Most bands have that one standout musician that dominates. Geddy, Alex, and Neal where all musical gods in their own right. They would take riffs and timing that didn't seem to jive with one another, and somehow make it sound incredible!
its hard to compare them. they are both equally skilled. Geddy and Flea have different styles, sure Flea might be better at funk jams, buy Geddy is still an overall GOOD player. there is no "best" its more along the lines of "favorite." It's like saying there's a best bass; not possible, it's all differential on opinions. This is coming from someone who likes RHCP more than Rush, but Geddy is by far just as skilled as Flea.
A name like blackmaidentallica? I saw Clock Work of Angels at the Palace in Alburn Hills, the sound was just terrible could not hear Geddy at all. I had a buddy that had floor tickets and he said the same thing. I saw then at Pine Knob about 12 years ago and that was amazing. Who ever did there sound at the palace needed to be fired.
haha do you know the name of the iron maiden's bass player?? Steve harris was heavily influenced by geddy lee's playing. geddy is simply one of the best
Haha oh shit you're a member of Talkbass!? Everyone step back! I take it you're a troll. I too learnt Portrait in a day for a recital... If you are a troll, nice try. If not, try learning Donna Lee in a day. Or try and come up with something as good as he did.
wouldn't compare him to jaco/gary willis or anyone like that as what's the point? if geddy had persued jazz/fusion playing who knows how good he would have been?... but then he wouldn't be rich and famous either. the most notable thing about Lee is his tone... it's just tops in my book.
I remember playing (and hating) the violin as a kid, and sometimes you have to pluck. If geddy lee ever played violin in band I’ll bet it would’ve shattered into a thousand pieces at the first pluck

i cant say that steve harris is better than geddy, steve has hard bass lines but i can play maiden songs no problem on bass and then rush songs i struggle with, its all personal opinion i guess

the guy who talken shit about geddy Lee..lurn how to spill...and just to know geddy is the baddest..he plays keybourd.sing and play bass all at one time...
Geddy lee doesnt have blisters on his fingers, the bass has blisters on the strings

I'm a pro bassist and I must say this is what a rock bass solo should sound like. Geddy is impeccable!
he actually lost the beat for a second. basic pentatonics

that fender jazz he plays has such a ridiculously strong tone, and his attack just makes it that much more powerful

Jimi Hendrix and those 2 lads from England would like a word

God the Jazz Bass has such a good high end.

lots of people are paying thier life's savings for them. You could buy a Ferari for what some are worth.(Like Geddy's own).
Powerful tone. Amazing how he attacks the bass with such precision and gets good melodies to hear. Great player, big influence.
I hope that bass was 18.

that bass will never die, it'll be around long after the earth explodes
