This is watch hobby stripped out of marketing and hype. Well said!
Appreciate the positive feedback🍻
My 160 dollar Gshock that i bought in 2010 saved my arm from being pinched between two large items at work. It saved me due to its thickness and durability. I'll forever owe Casio my support and love and still wear my Gshock that saved me decade and half later. Even over my Rolex.
That's awesome, good stuff🍻
Great freaking video, Sir!
Always remember, inexpensive watches keep getting better, while expensive watches keep getting more expensive...
Ha! That's a good way to put it🍻
I would say that you find thecSan Martin mod watch liberating for several reasons. One it’s a design you like, 2 you can freely use it since it is not a $6k watch, 3 you have expensive watches so you don’t have that lust when it comes to something expensive or exotic. Watches need only be comfortable and read the time.
That's spot on. Get out of my head💯
Just like everything else in life if it makes you happy then that shitty bracelet is a great one. It's what makes us happy. Thanks for the Reality check brother! 💥👍
Right on bro🍻
Would have never though an Invicta would catch my eye, well done.
Men of culture, welcome🤝🍻
I love your opinion on what wearing a watch experience should be.
I feel exactly the same
Men of class, welcome🍻🍻
Well said. Your comments ring very sound with the reasonable and sensible among us.
Hear hear!🍻🤝
Great storytelling as always!
I've developed a similar passion for this hobby, all started with the desire for the fairly expensive Brosnan-era 007 Omega watches, but now the it has evolved for me where I find more joy in collecting humble pieces like Invicta, Orient, AliEx champs like Cronos, and Thorn (Especially the Steel bezel BB58 homage you reviewed last year, which I still consider as a beast of a watch 🎖)
I do think it's important to experience a higher-priced watch at least once, to know for sure if you're missing out on anything or not. It was important for me, but I'm glad to know for sure 🍻
Brother, your best vid to date. It resonated with me. Keep bangin'.
Means a lot, much appreciated 🍻🤝
That Vostok makes me want a Panerai. I miss when San Martin allowed for some customization of watches.
I say go for it, Panerai watches are great👌
Totally agree with the sentiment. Some great shots of the Sound too
Right on🍻
A few years ago I was browsing Ebay when I saw an $80 Orient 3 Star with a turquoise dial I liked. I have lots of watches, some of which were several thousand dollars, but there is something about this $80 Orient that just endeared it to me and ever since it's been my most worn watch. I'll rotate through my other watches on my left wrist but the right always has the Orient on it. Its been over 3 years and its still an absolute joy to have. It really shocked me, I was just kind of getting into the luxury side of the hobby and the groups I was in, everyone was trending higher priced and I was amazed that such a cheap watch could give me so much enjoyment so much so that I really had to rethink my priorities after getting it. You definitely have a point here.
I completely understand that.
I hope the takeaway here to others isn't that cheaper watches are better. Like you, I simply enjoy these ones far more than the expensive ones. And who knows, maybe that will change in the future. For now, I'm enjoying this and if anyone else can hear the message then that's cool too🍻
I totally agree with you on price not equating with joy, and on the joy of having a different collection. My wife gave me a Seiko mechaquartz chronograph years ago that I found difficult to see the hour and minute hands on - so I replaced them with more legible hands and have a one-of-a-kind watch that I love. My G-Shock MTG M900 often felt heavy, so I replaced the bracelet with a resin band from a GW-M500 for another unique watch. I've also embraced the jangly bracelet on my Invicta Pro Diver 1953, and got the Batman-bezel version for a pop of color... and don't get me started on how comfy and rugged a cheap Casio W219H ($16.88!) can be when doing chores.
You and I are on the same wavelength🍻
Lazy Sunday afternoon goodness. My first down day in eight and I found this video rewarding me for slowing down.
That's awesome man, good to hear you were able to get some down time🍻
Same here.
I approve this message!
Men of culture, we meet again😎🤝🍻
Good chat. Watch incels are owned by their collections, and always seek validation by buying hype watches. Watch Chads avoid hype and set their own path. I put new hands on one of San Martins and love the new look. I've changed movement and crystals on my SKX. I've changed dials on some Steeldive shitter. I put another San Martin (this one unmolested by me) next to my 10 thousand dollar JLC in my watch box. My collection is just that - my collection - so I'll do the fk what I want with it, and I absolutely love what I have - everything from budget to top tier, and everything in between. It's Marie Kondo on steroids - everything sparks joy and the price tag is irrelevant to that. You hit that nail right on the head.
Nothing better than a collection that doesn't fit the hype narrative.
Recently I've been rocking a $3 Sydney Olympics 2000 Swatch Watch found at a charity sale. It's awesome.
That's awesome man. You always find hidden gems at things like that🍻
Love the straight end retro razor bracelet! I have one on a gilded Seiko turtle with an Arabic day wheel and it looks amazing!
Excellent, great choice👌
I’ve made this journey,
thank you for putting it together.
That's awesome man. It's a great place to be🍻
I love microbrands. Bronze, titanium,SS , Damascus cases. Onyx, MOP,carbon, adventurine and many other dial choices for a great price and quality. Makes collecting fun and affordable.
It's gotta be enjoyable 100%🍻
I prefer colour TV =) Vostok is my favourite, still it reminds me on Panerai
I can see that; beautiful👌
I have the same vostok pamphibia. Even though it's the most inaccurate watch in my collection running fast about a minute a day, it's certainly one of my favourite.
I completely understand that
Just remove the back cover and slightly move the regulator to slow it down a bit. Easy.
I really want to get one of those now.
@@thegorn I'm not going to say it's the best watch in the world, but damn it looks good.
Love your collection. That San Martin mod, is my kind of watch, looks amazing.
Right on man, good to hear🍻
Very relaxing video despite the fact that I did not agree with some of the things you said lol. Great job as always
That's expected; these thoughts were for my own collection
Great video and collection. That bracelet on the Vostok is killer!
Dude, I knew right away that's the combo I wanted. That was one of the driving forces of me buying that watch, because I thought it would look so good on the Retro Razor bracelet.
I think every watch is great. As long as the story of the watch has bin written by the owner by years of wrist time. I would take a seiko or casio with my own stories tied to it vs. a brand new rolex
Fair enough, I get that
Now that was a LOT of common sense for just one video. And I thoroughly like what you've done with your watches. 👍
That's awesome man, much appreciated 🍻
“Calm your tits…”😆. All great watches! And since your SM inspired this video. I don’t think your standards are going down, the quality of the Chinese Brands are going way up. It’s going to be something else when they start putting out great original designs. Thanks!
Right? These watches are objectively good; there's no over exaggeration. They do have a handful of original designs and I see a lot of potential in the direction they're heading🍻
@@degenerateWANo one took Japanese and Korean car makers seriously when they first started selling cars (in their respective decades) outside of Japan and Korea. 🤷🏻♂️
@adk7962 even I have a hard time realizing some Kias I see on the roads are Kias. They look fantastic👌
An excellent video. Love what you love! Subbed.
Awesome, welcome🍻
DK! Speaking truth to power ✊🏾
Gotta enjoy the collection from within you know what I'm saying?
Bravo
🤝🍻
I have a couple Tandorio watches that I have modified myself. I even replaced the movement on one of them. It now looks a lot better than it did from factory.
Excellent🍻
Nice video - taking control of your watch journey!
Gotta have fun with it🍻
Its a sounds philosophy to have my friend. We often put our value in the opinions of other. You like it, you wear it! I have found that the more expensive my watches the more I worry about scratching them and them being stolen. I think even if you only have these watches it would be enough and it would be great! You have made these watches your own and they are awesome! Hope you have a great weekend Bro!
You and I are always on the same wavelength🤝🍻
@@degenerateWA Thank you for the compliment my friend! I hope you have a great week ahead!
@@johanvandersandt8904 same to you brotha
@@degenerateWA 💪💪
Love the 70's style bracelet on your Vostok 👍😁
I've got one of those ultra chunky $10 AliExpress Shark mesh bands on my Black/Red Radio room and the other 3 I own.... LoL 😉
Very nice. That bracelet was the driving force for me to buy the Amphibia; I thought they would look so good together and turns out I was right.
@@degenerateWA You've got excellent design aesthetics, all your choices are spot on 👍
What's your field, something in Engineering ?
I think you are just realizing that great watches don’t always cost $5000 or more. Some truly great watches exist for just $200 or less in some cases.
Very true. It was important for me to experience the higher end stuff, and I'm glad to know for sure now🍻
Great showcase and collecting thoughts that certainly echo some of my own conclusions I've come to! Although there are many ways to enjoy this hobby, i think it shows a more authentic appreciation for it when you are truely able to enjoy a watch for everything that it is, completely free from the hype, stigma or bravado. Ok maybe a little bravado when a fellow watch nerd spots your Vostok 😉
Okay maybe just a little bit of flexing😁
I'm with you on the Dress KX, stick it on a Strapcode bracelet and it will be pretty much the perfect watch. I put my Orient Kamusa on a Strapcode bracelet and now have a perfect dive watch for what is chump change in watch collecting circles.
There's nothing better than that man👌
So did I. Red Kamasu with a Rollball bracelet. Awesome combi.
Waiting for my first San Martin now, the Red Dune S0129 three hander. Bought during the sale for €199. Can't wait to see if it is as good as San Martin watches are said to be.
nice video, I'm and engineer and while its true its pretty easy to make a good watch if you throw enough money at it, my respect goes out to engineers and designers that can pack reliability and functionality into an affordable product. Casio is the brand I respect the most....what ever you buy with Casio on it you know you are getting value for money. These are all good examples the Vostok is full of character and a truly interesting design history. The invicta pro diver that I have is accurate and dependable as watches costing 5 times the price. I have a number of NH35 bases Chinese watches and they are really a joy to wear. Seiko's are great watches and have always been a blue collar alternative to Swiss offerings. . If you can get equal enjoyment from a watch that is a 10th the price of another why spend the money on the more expensive one except for vanity or the approval of others? cheers
I completely understand the appeal of expensive watches, but I also understand that I'm not there yet. Like you said, there are so many excellent watches that are functional and reliable that I can enjoy without feeling anxiety while wearing them.
@@degenerateWA yep I want to own the watch not the watch own me.👍
Such an amazing video , such beautiful and unique watches and content. Thanks for your time investment making this , I’m inspired 😊
That's awesome man. Appreciate the positive feedback 🤝🍻
Interesting..
Indeed...
The Chinese are kicking it out of the park .
There's no way around it man, they're stepping up their game
Agree
🤝🍻
This video was awesome
Real as f*ck
I relate to a lot of it.
Interesting that you owned Lux brands and still enjoy these watches the same if not more. Love the custom work you have done to the watches.
Cheers
Yeah man, I needed to know for myself what the experience was like owning a certain tier of watches. Truth be told, those watches are awesome and are great quality no doubt, but so are these watches. These watches are great on a different level that resonates more with the person I truly am instead of the person I try and pretend to be. Hard to explain but I think you know what I'm talking about🍻
Yo I would if you would take a look at the black dial San Martin world timer. I can't find a single yt review on the black dial version, only a few of the grey dial and some of the older dial with a different bezel! SN0116 I believe
I'll check it out. I've got a bunch of San Martins sitting in my wishlist so it might be a while
Would you consider a different dial color?
Not really, but not completely opposed to it.
Great collection that a blue collar guy can njoi and also laugh @ the thirsty wanna b's in😂😎🤔😍
You get It.
Right on. I've been there, done that, and this is where the most fun for me is🍻
what bracelet is that on the Boctok?
Retro Razor from Strapcode.
Buy one really nice Swiss Made $2000.00 automatic watch and you'll push that collection to the side. I understand sentimental value; I'm a watch guy! Still, you have a collection of beater watches. That's great, but I believe you may not understand the value of a superior designed and finished watch.
Fair enough, I can see what you're trying to say. To give you some context, my collection consists of Patek Philippe, Rolex, Omega, Tudor, TAG Heuer, Bell & Ross, and so on and so on; I do very much enjoy more expensive watches. It's hard to explain definitively why I enjoy the watches featured in this episode more, but I just do. It's probably not logical.
@@degenerateWA Gotcha! I just discovered your channel and believed you were new to watches. ...That being said...I stand by my statement sir! ...Even though it doesn't apply to you. ✌
@@bettersteps I do agree that it's important to experience certain tiers before making a statement like mine. Not everyone is going to be happy with these watches and will need more and that's perfectly fine.
Where u got that bracelet on ur Vostok?
Retro razor from strapcode
It's not freaking VOstok, it's VostOk, meaning East. Are you a content creator or what?
Interesting. I can't wait to hear his response to your comment.
@@skipinkoreaable what's the term I use for these people?😁🤣
@@skipinkoreaable Why respond? And it's obviously more of a suggestion to every content maker - check the basics!!!
@GEMSofGOD_com hey I appreciate it. You're awesome👌
@@degenerateWA You too! Great content bro
