Four Wild Edible Mushrooms of the Midwest

- The Wild Roots crew is heading to German Ridge in the Hoosier National Forest. We went for a little day hike but stumbled across some delicious wild mushrooms! I’ll show you our haul of puff ball, pheasant back, chanterelle, and chicken of the wood. At the end we cook up our treasure on the fire and cast iron. Great day and great learning moments for our youngins. I think it’s important to teach the younger generations about foraging and how to enjoy all the wonderful things the outdoors has to offer!

Great Video nice rock formations your youngest reminds me of my granddaughter with her blonde hair!!!!!!!!!!
I watched this video when it first aired but was hunting some info to contact Michael and watched it again.
My dad would have loved your knowledge of mushrooms. He was a very good hunter. I couldn't seem to get my eyes focused on them lovely morels. I found one (of very few I ever found) that measured 9" tall and about 2-1/2". It was beautiful. I still think he staged it so I could find a nice one. A blind man could have found it. Era 1950's.
I love your hubby's channel.
Thanks for watching! Morel season is right around the corner. Your dad seems like a man after my heart❤️ I’m thinking about doing some live stream mushroom hunting so maybe I can take you all with me.
German Ridge was beautiful. Crazy looking rock formations. One of my uncles worked for the CCC . Charlotte is such a cute girl.
I got so excited to see all of that jewelweed!
Which came first? The chicken or the puff ball.
Next time I eat chicken nuggets…. I’ll remember… tastes just like puff balls!!!
Thanks, I always wanted to try puff balls…. Now, I will.
And thanks for having me to your place. You have a gorgeous home!
Sorry I missed ya! Some people gotta work ya know!? I’m sure y’all had a good time sitting around doing nothing😂*insert sarcasm*
@@wildroots4622 LOL… we even took some time off from working to skip rocks on the pond! I was plum tuckered out.

What a great family experience. "In order for kids to grow, they need to do dangerous things, carefully" ~ Jordan Peterson
Always a timber bridge.
Nothing like a great day hiking with the family and finding food. Looks delicious. Take care and have a blessed week and I'll see you on your next vidja.
Nice mushroom collection with the family. They looked might good to eat. Enjoy your fire side time. It's so precious.
Man them mushrooms we falling right in front of you.boy if you go a little deeper who knows what will turn up might find them oyster mushrooms 👍✌️😎👌
That dam yens walk across was a high one on the back side boy.
A grand day out !!!!
You have plenty of walks around your area, enough to tire the younguns out hopefully!!
It is always great to find things when you are not looking for them, adds more satisfaction to the day......
And then you got to eat your gains, marvellous!!!
I'm not used to eating wild mushrooms. I think there's a real fear of getting poisoned. You obviously know what to look for. Do you have any pointers on getting over this hurdle?
Man yall have some awesome little hideaway gems. I'm enjoying learning about the shroom life. Love that it's a family affair. Happy hunting guys
I would have had them all sample a little bit and wait a while before digging in. Some people are allergic to chicken of the woods. Not usually but better safe than sorry.
Alright, barely watched and already a great video. Captain playing with the older one XD. So wholesome.
That little one though, she's trouble alright XD (in a charming way)
Just like that dog is trouble (captain trying the eggscavator challenge haha)
What time of year
