    I am a smartpen virgin. This is the first one I've ever used, and I was extremely skeptical about the reason for the existence of such a thing. Surely these just make your life more complicated?!

    After a few days of using it, I figured that it wasn't for me. I just don't make notes that are important or valid for long enough to make something like this worthwhile. On the other hand, my partner, Kate, makes detailed notes in every meeting and relies on having them wherever she goes. She was excited about this product so, although it's me reviewing the product, most of the opinions and experience come from Kate.
    This is a great product with so much potential. It's so simple to use and, apart from a few flaws which I cover in the video, I would recommend this to anyone to whom notes are important.

    When you are in the NEO app you can do a hard press, you can select multiple pages and share them as a PDF

    Very nice and useful review. Do you have the chance to test the text exportation from the APP to Word, MS OneNote, etc.. Is there any functionalities for OTA firmware update? Thanks

    I've been using the Neolab Lamy for a couple of days and defy anybody to use it in a meeting. The refill rattles loudly - even louder than Neolab's N2 pen. And unless you switch the line width using the control card or open Neo Studio, the default line and ink color are thin and gray. Oddly, this is a function of the Lamy, since using the same notebook, my N2 produces dark, readable lines at the default setting.

      That's weird. I don't have this issue. Have you tried a hard restart?

    Hi TDCatTech, nice Review. :) I have an older NeoPen and I really like it, even though it's not perfect. One thing that I find really useful, is the ability to search your hand written notes. How many times have I thought "man I took a note of that somewhere at some time... which page / which notebook was it? How cool would it be to have 'ctrl + f' in Real-Life" Now you do...
    This also underlines one of your critiques. The oversight of transcribing more than one page at a time. Since it is possible to do a search across all pages / notebooks, it's clear the transcription feature itself, is not the limiting factor.

      Thanks for the feedback and additional info! Good point on the Ctrl-F. 👍🏻

      Yeah I agree, the transcription feature doesn't work for me, but somehow the search feature works perfectly. Not sure what the difference is. I don't think I'll be using the transcription feature though, because I was spending a lot of time creating digital copies of my notes by taking pictures and uploading them, so it's good enough for me to just have its base functionality.

    Hi, nice review! Seems that you are a reMarkable 2 user. I know some time has past, but can you still comment on the interplay between the Neo and the RM2?

    My main complaint I've had with mine is that I like to rotate pens in general while I'm writing--the grip design prevents this. I find myself experiencing minor discomfort and having to readjust my grip a little, and it's kind of distracting. Also, as you mentioned, the transcription feature doesn't work for me because my handwriting is a little wild. I also wish they had a refill that had a tip more like the pilot G-2's (0.7, high capacity, etc.). This would become my favorite pen by a landslide if that were the case, even if the electronics didn't work...but then there would be no point with the price tag. I have no buyer's remorse, however. The tech is good enough for my use case. I dunno why I felt like commenting on just about every comment here...guess it was one of those days. I guess I have high hopes for the company, I just wish I had more customization options, and I want to spread the word.

    Nice review - thank you for that!
    What happens when changing the notebook. Does the app recognize that it is a new book? I mean what happens by saving e.g. the notes of page 3 of the new notebook? Are these saved also as page 3 like the notes of the first notebook? A little bit weird maybe - hope you got my point 😂
    Thank you again!

    • @Hillwatch
      @Hillwatch 8 місяців тому

      Yes, it tracks the jumps between notebooks perfectly. Somehow, they encoded the book information along with the page number on each page. I am using the Lamy Safari smartpen.

    Great Review. For me the Remarkable 2 has too many downsides for such a high pricetag.
    This sounds just right!

    Is it possible to write tags or page titles etc. (live, with pen) with which to group pages? Like maybe "#2022-10-19 Mtg Client3". In order afterwards to use search to find/filter only pages like that? I'd imagine at real-time writing some sort of tag on the first page then after the meeting (say) copy/pasting it to the other relevant pages. That leaves open flexibility to write but not include "tangent" pages (e.g. during a boring part of the meeting!)

      Hi David, did you get a reply to this question?

    • @Hillwatch
      @Hillwatch 8 місяців тому

      No, it's still pretty basic. I had reached out to the company asking them for a similar thing - the ability to program recognition for custom icons - but they basically told me that they can do it if you want to basically start a business and order a minimum of 10,000 notebooks...so it's probably one of those feature requests that hasn't been taken seriously yet, or maybe it will come later. I have been half tempted to try and reverse engineer the device to see if I could create my own software for it, but I'm not quite ready to void my warranty.

    Not sure if it's covered, but you don't technically HAVE to buy their notebooks. You can download the PDF with those tiny dots and print the sheets yourself.

      He did cover that - and emphasised that the printer you use to print them out has to be of good quality

    • @Hillwatch
      @Hillwatch 8 місяців тому

      eh, you still have to scan the pages with a rocketbook, and then you have to erase when you run out of pages. This solution is more seamless IMO.

And as long as i have to link the app to a server, i wil not buy it. ( i have a lot gadgets that i cannot use anymore because they dicided to stop the service )

      That's good feedback. Being reliant on companies to update and maintain their apps is one thing. Being reliant on a login is a step further. A connection to NeoLab is not required but you will need to login to something.

    I've been putting money aside for this, but no longer. If you are forced to log in with only google /facebook/apple surveillance systems, then they will not only have your notes but an accurate, irrefutable sample of your handwriting. Thanks, but no thanks.
