This channel is amazing I am hopefully going to have my CDLs end of November beginning of December.
I’ve been a feeder driver for UPS for the last 4 years. I went into UPS as an unloader and landed a bid for feeders after only 4 months without a CDL. I “Grossed” 94k my first year of driving. At year 4, I currently make $41 an hour and will be closer to $120k at the end of the year. Love my job and I eat good. Opportunities are out there!
I have a CDL and zero experience, so forgive my ignorance. Can you please tell me what being a "feeder driver" entails? Do feeder drivers drive tractor trailers or box trucks? Please explain. ~ And thank you!
Frodrick Fronkensteen feeder drivers are the drivers who you see driving a tractor trailer to and from different hubs, doing pickups at customer accounts and yard switching.
I started truck driving a tad over two years ago. I made about $70k my first year and was with a "big"... Not gonna lie, I worked my ass off, but I like to work hard. I also had a plan from the start. My advice.... Get your CDL on your own... Team with a buddy... Stay on the road 6 to 8 weeks at a time. This ain't a job for the weak at heart...

Thanks for all the info, keep the videos coming
I’ve yet to meet one guy who quit the business because he didn’t like driving. Answering these questions correctly the first time is the key to making it or breaking it.

Yes TMC starts you at 26% right out of their school, also they pay $500 a week during training which from what I can see is the highest out there, also their equipment is superb.
@Marcus White I’ve never seen a dirty TMC truck and I like their pay structure from what I’ve seen and employee ownership. I started with Melton, but TMC could be my next stop.
You’re right, TMC drivers do keep their trucks looking nice, no question about it. I think the fact that they are issued a nice shiny black Peterbilt helps to contribute to that. I see a TMC up ahead, I immediately jump in the hammer lane. 😁 Other than that, I hear that they are a great place to start.

keim ts out of sabetha ks is a flatbed company they pay you to get your cdl and give you a job they start off at .60 per mile or 26 percent of load what ever you choose plus 25 dollars for throwing chains and 50 for tarping loads and 25 for untarping loads home every weekend to do your 34 hour reset. they also have a terminal in jasper tennessee very good company. love the info you provid man
I’ve been trucking now for twenty years, the best advice I can give you is, find a company that rewards loyalty and safe miles driven.. I started at 23 cents a mile I now make 98 cents a mile, thats $130,000 a year driving from Los Angels to Fresno Monday through Friday.. That’s 2,797,600 safe miles, Theres no get rich quick scheme in driving, it’s safety and perseverance period.
I have been trucking for 30 years now, I started over the road and I didn’t like it , and wanted a local driving job. I found a Grocery hauling business in the Tacoma Washington area, it is a teamsters union job they pay 6$ an hour into my pension and 30.42$ hour pay. I can work 4ten hour shift or 5 eight hour shift. There are a lot of grocery hauling jobs around every state.
Some good advice i've received out here is that if you want the money, then get specialized. Also find who drives the nicest truck and go talk to them. So far it seems Cattle haulers and End-Dump drivers have more of the nicer trucks aside from over sized Flatbed drivers.
I’m on track to make around $80,000 my first year in the industry. Give or take a little depending on how much time I take off for the holidays. Home weekends. Flatbed isn’t for everyone, but it’s 100% the best way to make the most money when you’re starting out.

I got my class A CDL last year with FedEx express making $23.05 per hour. I do regional so far, I'm thinking about switching to tanker driving. I have the HazMat, Toubles/Triples, and Tanker endorsement.
My kids are finally grown up. All 5 of them. I'm 63. Barber forty + years. I stuck it out till I lost the passion. Time for a new profession. USAF Vet, Firefighter. Drove the big trucks. I can do this. Money is secondary. I have the personality, will and means for Trucking School to do this. Spoke with the wifey. She said go for it. Gonna be a Trucker starting in January. Any Schools in San Diego would you recommend?
I’m brand new and was happy to find a regional job. The carrier I signed with seems to pay new people a little better than average. It’s yet to be proven since I’m new and have to complete my training miles still. But if everything works out like they say I should make significantly more than the Indeed average. I’ll recommend them if they’re not lying.
Great info...I would not suggest anyone signing onto a mega carrier to obtain a CDL. It's not worth it--many schools will cost between $1200 - $5000 and you pay as you go. Study the written part then see what deal you can make with a local school to practice your driving skills. BTW, there are many videos on backing up. Be safe Brian!
Alotof the cdl schools take longer than getting at a megacarrier. U could be making money by the time u graduate from regular community college or cdl school. Plus u don’t end up paying for the cdl. I doubt u will get a much higher pay
Steve Bell what Brian was saying is that there is no free ride when signing up with a mega carrier. Not only did you sign up for a year to drive for the company, but the type of loads, the amount of road time is dictated by the carrier. God help you that you don’t like the carrier? Either you tough it out or the carrier will make you pay for the CDL training, and you know it’s not $8k. Get your CDL without obligation and like Brian said, second step would be interviewing the carriers. Always keep your options open. Best of luck.
@@twenty2twenty216 I took my cdl training at RoadMaster truck schools 7 years ago. And I financed the course for $6500(had it paid off in 9 months) and school was done in 2-3 weeks.
I went to truck driving school on my own and finished early July of this year. Got lucky and found a job driving a chip truck locally. will be home every night but long hours.
Percentage is better than cpm mainly because trucking companies paying CPM pay zip code to zip code and /or the shortest route whether you can take that route or not, or HHG. Shorting drivers an average of 50-100 miles ONE WAY! If you find a company that pays hub miles ( actual miles driven) then that can work if you're getting the miles.
TMC transportation starts everyone out at 26% and from what I see it’s easy to get up to 29% after a month in your truck. Not an easy company to get into. Also the company is all flatbed.
The more you work the trailer the more you will make. Did heavy hual back in the 90s i made 230 to 250 a day back then and home every night. Back then we got 550 a week plus 23% . That was 95. In 99 we where doing 1500 after taxes. Made 30% home every other night and weekends off. My best month as a company driver was just a little over 10000. My avg was 6500 a month. Remember that was 20 yr a go. Today as a o/o i pay my self 1500 a week. Thats after the bills are paid. I make sure i get paid for every day if the truck moves or not. My avg is 2300 miles a week loaded and empty for the last 6 yrs. Be safe
When I got my license I started driving for this small flatbed company. I started getting paid 29% with no experience whatsoever. Im taking home from 1,500-2,000 weekly
My 1st year as a regional Flatbed driver with Maverick Transportation was 65k fresh out of truck driving school. I went to a independent school in which Maverick reimbursed my 3200 dollars tuition. 9 out of 10 weeks was home every weekend for an average of 40 hours per weekend.
Came from MI where the state paid for my CDL-A first job was food service and I made about 65-70k for 11 months of that year. Never understood why OTR drivers make and are okay with making so little. You have to spend your LIFE away from family…at least the railroad gives your spouse an additional 50% of what your total retirement is for them to “retire” as well.
Don’t forget about bull rack that pays great also and probably the hardest thing to do in trucking then I’ll say open deck and tanker runs neck to neck
Look into private carriers, typically pay more. Ask for proof of salaries because 25% of $1 a mile with no miles pay stinks! I've been private local for 20 years way above over the road wages.
In my opinion most companies you go to operate the same. Do your research before coming into trucking so you are familiar with you are doing. My first year out here flatbed I’m on pace to close to 70k a year. I work my ass off , manage my time, and out 2-3 months a time. It’s possible. I obtained my own CDL on my own, for free fortunately. Did research on a company that had a lot of heavy contracts so I knew miles were there. This pay is also during this covid too. I’m skeptical on % pay as a company driver because your relying on someone else contract on their rates. And those rates are your %. Just my opinion as a company driver for me cents per mile as a company driver that has the freight I can get the best bang for my buck due to how I run. What’s also helped me out are my hazmat, Twic, as a flatbedder. The more endorsements you have the more valuable you become.
Hey Driven, I watch Heavy Haul TV and man does he ever have expenses..He has to make the big money just to have any left to live on..😀 Be sure and study up on that and do not let the money fool you..Have a great day..😀👍🇺🇸☕️🍫🇺🇸
I'm currently getting out of heavy haul. Too many slow downs. Doesn't matter what you're making per mile if you are always being held up by curfews, permits, economic slow down, etc, etc. I can make the same amount of money in dry van and not be stuck at a state border for days. And far less risk to my CDL and headaches.
I'm am beginning my CDL with Prime. Form experience i know i won't make much year one of a new career. I do plan on working my ass off though, so i can save up money, boost my credit, and pay off debt. I expect to make a minimum of $40k this year as a company OTR driver. Also, i only expect to get crappy loads. At the same time, i wont be renting a apartment this year. Plan on using a family member address for mail. But i plan on just living in my truck. So my lowered living cost is how i can accept a lower pay outcome for the next year while still making out with high profits. Ultimately i want to save up $20k so I can lease or buy, and have funds available if something comes up. That way i can really profit from working my ass off.
I dont know about other states however, in my cdl school 2024, Oklahoma workforce paid for school for about 1/2 my class to go. Its a grant, so no cost to you. Hope this helps someone out.
Thinking about going UPS on their feeder routes. Doing dedicated for a national furniture company from Denver to S. Texas. Have 18 months and could go GP Transco, but I'm getting tired of OTR and with UPS I can be home almost every night.
hi there love your videos , i wanna become a truck driver and i wanna know where to start . should i go with C.R england with their school ? or Roadmaster trucking school with werner trucking job afterworth ..?
Being gone from the family for long periods of time in my eyes will never be worth an extra 5 to 10 grand per year. There are local jobs that even hire new grads that make way more than $50,000 a year . Probably averaging around $75,000 a yr . But it's probably only touch freight like food service.
I have been with a Mega carrier for 6 months. I just had an offer from a different company. 2 cpm increase and 10 mph governed increase. Still not sure if I should switch
TMC... and they openly promote it on their website. They actually give drivers a choice of "per mile" or "percentage." And those clean trucks... sort of a forced compliance thing... they're pretty particular with how their equipment is kept.
@@yasirmohame I'm aware, I wasn't calling him liar, just indeed. I went to cdl school with 3 other people I keep in contact with, I'm the closest to making 50k a year because I quit otr and drive a cement truck. The only ways I've seen to make real money in truck is O/O, or team.
I had lucked outed at the time because I was focused State side bound and could legally cross the border and got my pass too lol. This made me a valuable commodity in the industry and I would not accept BS justification why they should pay me less and profit more on my behalf. Don't let people walk over you in this industry from day one and know your worth. Seasoned drivers also have accidents and fines and tickets too and sometimes far worse than a green driver. ;) I do agree with get your license on your own (unless something happens to you financially), if you can save up for it and are bad with money.. will it's not going to change and might get worse in this industry lol
I looking for a company to drive for out of Las Vegas. I’ve been driving in Hawaii for 25 years. 1st choice would always be something close to home but what do you recommend for regional or OTR
Was open deck freight considered mission critical? Did open deck drivers get laid off during this crisis or furloughed? How did they fare compared to say Reefer delivering food? Because this crisis is far from over.
My mileage from March to July dropped from 2500 a week to around 2200 flatbed, but with tarp pay it still stayed around 1350 a week Gross. Van and Reefer are where its at during times like this and I've volunteered to run quite a few reefer loads lately. I hate them and I hate dealing with DCs but I'm out here to work not sit.
@@scottdavis2133 I hear ya. I'm going through CDL School right now and wanted to be an open deck guy but I'm starting out in Reefer because I don't think we are close to being near the end of this crisis period. In fact, I see us at the beginning of it.
So I work at UPS as a package handler for seven years and I am trying to drive feeder do you have any suggestions I do know the four years driving feeder you make 100 k a year
I start CDL training next Monday. I went through my local job service and qualified for a WOIA ( workforce oppertunity investment act) Grant here in SC and have to pay nothing me being low income and unemployed. Wish me luck..looking for local work at entry level...
Me too I got a grant here in Alabama for a 3 week school. I drove trucks in the Army for a while. Schnider seems like a good company. $0.44/ mile for starting veterans.
So I'm switching companies to a flatbed union company. I've been driving for two years. they have about a hundred trucks. So smaller company. They pay cpm and wondering why they wouldn't pay percentage as a flatbed company?
Driven Trucking there’s only 3 companies I know but we both know mega carrier Schneider doesn’t pay well but the other two being Trimac Transportation And Atlantic Bulk Carriers they hire CDL graduates fresh out of CDL school
Chris moody, Trimac wont look at a driver unless they have 1 year of experience... I was told by a recruiter to get at the very least 10 months of experience then call him back. (This is in Canada btw)
Watching it now, but first year entry level tanker guy, grossed just under 80k in my first year. But with that said I ran hard really hard. Running north east regional.
Hey man I just saw this very first video, and seems that you are a SME, Which is exactly what I’m looking for, please replay with a email I can send you some topics and Ideas for next videos wich are very high interest in many truck Drivers I know..
I made 80k at Prime my first year (2019) after expenses but before any taxes. I was paying for the lease scam knowingly, but it was still worth it for my first year. If I owned my truck, I would have probably make $140k-150k. I didn't take more than 4 weeks off the whole year. Averaged 3000 miles a week.
Not trying to down on your content but honestly there are enough rookie “hold my hand” videos out there. I use to enjoy your content back in the Mercer days where you actually did load securement and showed loads etc. these talking vlogs are just boring. Just figure I’d give you some feedback from someone who’s been in the business a while, again not trying to dog on you either.
I completely understand, this is why I’m starting the new Vlog channel. I know these videos aren’t for everyone but unfortunately putting both types of videos on one channel hurts the channel in UA-cam’s eyes. I’m definitely going to have the good ole entertainment vlogs on the new channel. Thank you for the feedback

Good video brother very informative
Great info...I would not suggest anyone signing onto a mega carrier to obtain a CDL. It's not worth it--many schools will cost between $1200 - $5000 and you pay as you go. Study the written part then see what deal you can make with a local school to practice your driving skills. BTW, there are many videos on backing up. Be safe Brian!
Agreed
Alotof the cdl schools take longer than getting at a megacarrier. U could be making money by the time u graduate from regular community college or cdl school. Plus u don’t end up paying for the cdl. I doubt u will get a much higher pay
Steve Bell no offense but you didn’t listen to the video
Good job but teamster local union jobs actually pay higher. $25 dollars an hour and up plus OT after 8 hours.
Be safe
I pass you Thursday I was going to Houston on US 59
When I got my license I started driving for this small flatbed company. I started getting paid 29% with no experience whatsoever. Im taking home from 1,500-2,000 weekly
By the way, Im home every weekend
My 1st year as a regional Flatbed driver with Maverick Transportation was 65k fresh out of truck driving school. I went to a independent school in which Maverick reimbursed my 3200 dollars tuition. 9 out of 10 weeks was home every weekend for an average of 40 hours per weekend.
Very nice
Thanks for the information! It's priceless!!
I live Huntsville texas. I live between Houston and Dallas and I make over 1,500 per week but still make it on time to see my family.
Close friend of mine made 68k his first year with XPO.
Forgot to say thanks for sharing the knowledge!
thanks for all your very informative videos, be safe out there and God bless !!!!
Awesome video as always Bryan
Don’t forget about bull rack that pays great also and probably the hardest thing to do in trucking then I’ll say open deck and tanker runs neck to neck
I’ve heard they do very well
TMC provides CDL training and has an option for drivers to get per centage pay OR CPM
OTR isn’t for me lucky I’m doing local city deliveries. $28.53 / hr OT after 40 weekly pay. Take home $1,000 +
There's like 6 places in my town that will train you to get your cdl locally...
Hello Mister first of all I really appreciate for all your videos that are helpful and what truck do you suggest to buy to pull dry box ? Thanks 🙏
Good information.
As long as I have a home for my family and a car and spend time here and there . I’m okay with that
Made 48k first year with Averitt 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice
Yea if you are forced to go with a mega carrier you get hosed..
Great videos.
Brian, if you're going to go "heavy-haul", you will want a manual 18-speed...13-speed minimum...,a very good engine brake, nd many ponies.
Yes sir
One of these days I would love to meet you
Being gone from the family for long periods of time in my eyes will never be worth an extra 5 to 10 grand per year. There are local jobs that even hire new grads that make way more than $50,000 a year . Probably averaging around $75,000 a yr . But it's probably only touch freight like food service.
Good information bro Txs
I have been with a Mega carrier for 6 months. I just had an offer from a different company. 2 cpm increase and 10 mph governed increase.
Still not sure if I should switch
Who is the best company to start with in training and
great video... I have never hear of a company that would paid there company drivers percentage I have only see it on the own operating side...
I hadn’t either but I’ve been told TMC does
TMC... and they openly promote it on their website. They actually give drivers a choice of "per mile" or "percentage." And those clean trucks... sort of a forced compliance thing... they're pretty particular with how their equipment is kept.
Whats about tankers do you have any opinion, on hauling tanker average pay i have been told hauling tankers is the most money.
I’ve heard tanker is really good money too
Thanks for the great information. God bless
Thank for tip trucking rule the world 🍻🙏
Indeed lied to you lol, I made no where near $50k, more around the $38k range
He said average
@@yasirmohame I'm aware, I wasn't calling him liar, just indeed. I went to cdl school with 3 other people I keep in contact with, I'm the closest to making 50k a year because I quit otr and drive a cement truck. The only ways I've seen to make real money in truck is O/O, or team.
hi J Sanes, are you interested in a new driving job? Please let me know, Midwest Refrigerated is hiring Company Drivers and Owner Operators
Seasoned drivers also have accidents and fines and tickets too and sometimes far worse than a green driver. ;)
I do agree with get your license on your own (unless something happens to you financially), if you can save up for it and are bad with money.. will it's not going to change and might get worse in this industry lol
Im 54 year old, I’m considering becoming a truck driver, do you think that I am too old for profesión?
I looking for a company to drive for out of Las Vegas. I’ve been driving in Hawaii for 25 years. 1st choice would always be something close to home but what do you recommend for regional or OTR
I don’t really know the companies based out of Vegas
I want to get into heavy haul!!
Was open deck freight considered mission critical? Did open deck drivers get laid off during this crisis or furloughed? How did they fare compared to say Reefer delivering food? Because this crisis is far from over.
It slowed down for sure, rates are ok but volume isn’t very high.
TMC pays percentage and has a CDL school.
i dont ask about $$$ i ask how much u need to work
the volume of work and then ask about the $$$
You can make 50k a year driving trash truck Mon - Friday local
You can make &61K with a b class driving city buses in Portland Oregon
So I work at UPS as a package handler for seven years and I am trying to drive feeder do you have any suggestions I do know the four years driving feeder you make 100 k a year
I’m sorry I don’t know much about UPS
I start CDL training next Monday. I went through my local job service and qualified for a WOIA ( workforce oppertunity investment act) Grant here in SC and have to pay nothing me being low income and unemployed.
Wish me luck..looking for local work at entry level...
Great job, good luck
Me too I got a grant here in Alabama for a 3 week school. I drove trucks in the Army for a while. Schnider seems like a good company. $0.44/ mile for starting veterans.
@@ImmortalCombat2028 Wish you to best of luck!
I did the same thing you did too got a grant through my state to get a CDL and pay nothing. I am going to TDI
So I'm switching companies to a flatbed union company. I've been driving for two years. they have about a hundred trucks. So smaller company. They pay cpm and wondering why they wouldn't pay percentage as a flatbed company?
To keep more profit
@@DrivenTrucking understandable. I'll just have to push myself to get those miles.
Great video That is going to help another of new drivers in the future keep it up 👍👍👍👍👍
I meant another doggone spell check
I've been looking into schools that partner up with companies as far as getting your cdl goes one of them is Werner any advice or tips.
In Los Angeles , you can get your CDL for $1500-$1700 ..on your own without any contract.. Good luck guys !
U forgot about hazmat tanker drivers
Yeah they make very good money. Can you get in with zero experience and though?
Driven Trucking there’s only 3 companies I know but we both know mega carrier Schneider doesn’t pay well but the other two being Trimac Transportation And Atlantic Bulk Carriers they hire CDL graduates fresh out of CDL school
Chris Moody oh nice, I didn’t know that otherwise I would have mentioned that for sure
So that was your first trucking job?
@@scottbulach yes sir right from cdl school to here. 3 months training through the holidays then released.
@@cryptoanalysts5793 superior carriers... no need to hide
@@cryptoanalysts5793 thought I wouldn't answer someone sure got quite...
Yeah, if you’re able to either live on the road you can make a higher salary unless there’s a lot of breakdowns. A bit of a gamble
Salute 💯
Driven Trucking what’s the new channel called?
Scott Bulach haven’t created it yet, however, most likely I’ll call it Driven Trucking Vlogs so it’s easy to find
What is "Open Deck"?
Flatbed, step deck, or lowboy generally
Awesome
I was just about to download Trucker Tools, but it only has 2.9 stars!?! Why is that??
Well it’s fairly new and the code in an app is extremely difficult to write. It’s get better with each update and the app is absolutely loaded with tools, 17 in total I believe, don’t quote me on that though lol
On the Apple side it has 3.6 🤷🏼♂️
@@DrivenTrucking makes sense. I'll give it a shot, thanks!
Reefer is to much risk & liabilities but better pay all yr revenue. When my health gets back right back to the flatbed gang
What is CDO ?!
