Also worth mentioning that the helmeted hornbill is extremely endangered due to habitat loss, and being hunted for its casque (which, unlike other hornbills, is not hollow) to make hornbill ivory. It is my favorite of the hornbills and I hope it can make a recovery!
Hornbills will also often raid the nests of other birds and I’ve heard they can clear an entire nest in less than a few seconds. Tropical Birdland near where I live also has a small number of Silver-Cheeked hornbills
Many of the parrots there are also not enclosed meaning they often fly around the local area. But yeah it’s a great place and I recommend anyone visiting Leicestershire to go to tropical bird land
@@wolfhunt8400 Pretty sure you didn't ask *me* but I can give you some advice (I too make spec evo projects). Experiment with crests and horns. Experiment with inflatable structures and wattles. Experiment with new niches (aquatic herbivores, carnivores turned herbivorous, herbivores turned carnivorous). consider the little guys. Tyrannosaurs and sauropods and all the other giants all came from tiny generalists. Maybe thescelosaurs and raptors could grow to fill the niches of sauropods and tyrannosaurs? Think about how the world works and how animals evolved. The only limit to creating a spec world is your imagination!
My favorites are the two species of Ground Hornbill. They have the longest legs of their kind, they’re the only carnivorous species & they can break through tortoise shells & eat venomous snakes like the Puff Adder. I’m honestly surprised you didn’t mention them.
Dinosaur question: What were the life spans of various dinosaurs? We always talk about how the species was from this million years ago to this million years, but what about the individual animal?
The rhinocerous hornbills are also a symbol of bravery in my tribe, the Ibans, because of their ferocious attitude. We would wear their feathers on rattan hats to which symbolizes a warriors courage to fight.
I've seen these guys in a sanctuary before these dudes asf. If ever see one u ever go to a sanctuary and there horn bills in it don't stick ur fingers threw. A other fact they eat snakes there hunt on the ground most of the time plus some species of horn bills can grow about 4 feet or 3 feet tall
I don't know if u did shoebill yet. The first time I seen one in person. I keep telling my daughter that's definitely a dinosaur. I mean I owned emu's before. But shoebill gave me more of a dino vibe.

Hey, I’m making a Speculative Biology project about Africa splitting in-two. And I’m just asking, do you think Hornbills would diversify with there being a ocean and Africa in two?
In my opinion, likely not. Hornbills today aren't really a coastal or lake-dwelling species, even though they have more than ample opportunity (many species live near coasts). They are found in open grasslands, savannah, and forests. For them to evolve to a coastal life, they need to either become far better at foraging for coastal food (such as carrion, fish, crabs, etc) or there needs to be some readily available resource that they can take advantage of regularly. There has to be some kind of advantage to them doing it, otherwise they wouldn't evolve. However, as for Africa splitting in two, I'm sure that would cause adverse effects for the populations of animals on either side. It is definitely possible that there would be new species of Hornbill on the major landmasses
my dad actually thought it was toucan XD when i was younger then he searched big horn a goat species XD then i told him to search hornbill then he found it XD
Fun fact: Pteranokyrie's design is based on Hornbill and Pteranodon
Notice didn't know about that

To me it even looks a little bit like an extinct pterosaur of old. Gotta love convergent evolution.
These birds are absolutely incredible! One of the hadrosaurs in my fantasy world project has a crest similar to the Rufus-necked hornbill!
Basing a spec Hadrosaur on a hornbill??? Now that's something I wanna see!
Oooh nice, do you have any other ideas for animals. Im making a fantasy world but i obly managed to make some predators and they are pretty similiar

Hornbills are one of my favorite bird clades. Obviously this is partially because they are a great reference when it comes to tapejarid pterosaurs.
The Great hornbill is probably one of, if not my favorite bird.
i have 5 pet hornbills in aviary in my backyard. they loves to see me and play with my hair
The Hornbill Crests Remind Me Of Crested Dinosaurs And Pterosaurs

Lovely bird, one of the reasons why i started to like birds as a whole
The hornbill that eats poisonous berry's has a beautiful color👌❤️
Just saying watching a Great Hornbill fly is like catching a glimpse of what an Azhdarchid pterosaur would have looked like in action.
Most famous and favorite bird in Sarawak

They’re one of the coolest groups of birds for sure
You should do the shoe hornbill. I heard their living dinosaurs
Do you mean, the shoebill? Also, all birds are living dinosaurs.
Shoe Hornbill???
Hornbills are like the carnivorous airborne pachycephalosaurs of today!
Dinosaur question: What were the life spans of various dinosaurs? We always talk about how the species was from this million years ago to this million years, but what about the individual animal?
They kinda remind me of the dsungaripterus
The rhinocerous hornbills are also a symbol of bravery in my tribe, the Ibans, because of their ferocious attitude. We would wear their feathers on rattan hats to which symbolizes a warriors courage to fight.
I've seen them once in the wild, they can geow much larger than you expect

They are like upside-down Dsungaripterus
Their crests are spectacular, like living pterosaurs
Sometimes a flock of these guys would just chill at my school, and there when they flap, it sounds like a leaf blower

Go to zoo run to shoebill first. Won't be disappointed!

I wonder if any prehistoric animals had crests like the hornbill, like imagine seeing a Guanlong with a crest like this.
Here in the Philippines the hornbills are called kalaw and they make a loud noise and sometimes called the clock of the mountains
Hornbill is like modern day hatsegopteryx or Quetzal
