I finally figured out why you wear gloves- to use your rags. Another job well done Steve. Sometimes it's just easier to replace than try to repair something. Thanks for sharing

Ok this is probably going to come off as a stupid question for those of you in the East. I live on the West coast and have never in my life heard "Give It The Old Gundy Momma" what does this mean exactly? I might add how much I enjoy this channel. Watching Steve fix the simplest of things to much more complicated things is fascinating. I am more of a Jack Of All trades and have to laugh at some of the things people call a repair man out for now a days.

Hey Steve, my faucet it leaking at the base of the two handle bathroom faucet. It's not dripping down from the base of the handles . Haven't been able to find a UA-cam video yet on that type of leak. Any ideas what could be causing it to leak from the base?

Most handles area made of cheap inexpensive white metal, or Babbitt and they tend to bond strongly to other metals their attached to when around water sources. This makes them very difficult to remove without damaging or breaking.

In my old house we had a single lever faucet that was too old to get part's to fix it, plumber called all of the surrounding plumbing supply house's and even went to the hardware store nearby that had a lot of old faucets that were in good condition but no part's for our faucet,he got a new one and that solved the leak issues

i lift faucet lever so water is on and slip my rubber covered channel lock handles between the lever and the crotch of the spout on top.
that makes a fulcrum, so when you push down on the handle you can pop the handle off. always use antiseize on the allen screw or handle screw.
non lever hot cold knobs can be coaxed off with heat from a small soldering iron on the screw or stuck stem

Hard to see you can't take of the handle. Use a small hammer und a plastic or wood block for protection und hit it gently from the underside of the handle. How do you chance the cartridge on other jobs ?

It shows no plumbers putty on the threads...so wouldn't you at least put it around the outside of the faucet around the plastic base shim ? I do in my house to stop over splash from going under the plastic base which is not water proof. If not putty I use a bead of silicone. (Mildew and mold resistant type)

Ya know what causes that right? People turning the faucet on and keep pushing it while they do their thing. Same principle as the kitchen faucet. Turn the water on and lay their hand on the spout, adding weight to it. Something's bound to give sooner or later.

Most levers have corrosion or mineral build-up underneath, and spraying CLR type solutions into the Allen screw hole, letting sit for ten minutes, should do the trick, better than oil-based solvent rust breakers. The extra time spent without replacing the aging, crappy outmoded screw-type shut-offs is professional incompetence; such old valves inevitably corrode to where they cannot be fully shut off, or leak around the stem, either way needing upgrade with modern 1/4 turn ball valves that make every future sink problem far easier to address. I would bet the original faucet could be soaked in CLR and restored to function - but that don't sell a new unit.
