The Mario movie pretty much redeems Mario for me. Dude was so determined to say his brother first and foremost, but not willing to let the Mushroom Kingdom fall into war either. We hate the game version, but the film version is better and kinder. At least we actually see the kind-hearted loving hero he's supposed to be in film instead of the murderous sociopath he is in game..
I am surprised that the copalins weren't in the movie or at least bowser junior it was supposed to be an origin story soo maybe they weren't born yet maybe if there is a sequal they could be in it and it could develop Bowser more

I don't think this is one that can be disproven, but rather added to. There is clearly more to this story because so much has happened between that gap.
He is a very cruel bad guy but he only is that to his enemies. To those loyal to him and especially his family he actually cares for them. That's why when Fawful takes over Bowser on instinct tries to rush back to his castle. It's kind of heartbreaking seeing Bowser desperately trying to snap those 2 Goombas out of their hypnotic trance to no avail. You can sort of see why Bowser is so angry at Fawful and wants to smash his face in. He doesn't like the prospect of his kingdom being threatened. Fawful is basically what Bowser would be if he literally didn't care for anyone and was obsessed with nothing but power. It is Bowser's negative reflection. Bowser even states that as bad as he can be he would never stoop to the low of destroying worlds like Fawful or his dark counterpart. He just wants to rule them. Is Bowser bad? Yes. But he also has some traces of humanity. Something other Mario bad guys obviously lack (not counting Count Bleck because Bleck is actually a misunderstood good guy in a state of depression induced madness).

In my opinion Super Mario Odyssey makes this theory even stronger. It has Bowser kidnapping Peach just to marry her. He goes through a lot of trouble to make the wedding perfect too. He gets food, flowers, a ring, etc.
One last thing I thought I'd point out, in the modern Paper Mario games, Bowser doesn't seem to be on bad terms with Mario. In Sticker Star (I'm sorry but it still exists like it or not) and Color Splash, Bowser wasn't fully in control of himself, as evidenced after the battle against him in Color Splash, where he asks Mario if he just came to remind him if there was a kart race. In the Origami King, Bowser and his minions don't seem to have any aggression to Mario. At all. In fact, Bowser serves as quite a major character, but more like the comedic side character if anything. Now, why is this? Well, if you remember the beginning of Super Paper Mario, Count Bleck hosts a wedding between Bowser and Peach. Peach is forced into marrying Bowser. It's pretty clear that over the rest of the game, Bowser thinks he's actually married to Peach, much to Peach's dismay. Now that he got exactly what he wanted, he doesn't seem to be interested in world domination or anything after that. He seems to be on much better terms with Mario after the events of that game. You might end up wondering, "But Bowser isn't on good terms with Mario in non-Paper Mario games!" Well, as established in Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam, the paper world and main world are two different universes. Also, Paper Bowser and Bowser teaming up? It's possible the timeline for Paper Jam could have happened before Super Paper Mario. The game doesn't specify what exactly the Paper Mario characters were doing before being pulled from that book.

I totally get that. As kids, you looked up to the superheroes and looked down on the supervillains. As adults, you become sympathetic towards the supervillain once you truly understand their past. Probably one of the first theories to make me cry, no cap.
I actually feel bad for Bowser now. Could you imagine a Mario game where you start playing, Peach hasn't been kidnapped, there are no enemies, and you just make your way to Bowser's castle, only to find him sitting on his throne, completely dejected, the Koopalings despondently wandering around the castle, and Bowser Jr. crying in his room whilst hugging a plushy Princes Peach? And Mario approaches Bowser and says, "What's-a-matter you, eh?" and Bowser replies in a low, husky voice, "I tried so hard. I only wanted them to have the family I never had. The love that was denied me. But it's too late now. It's too late." and that's when he points a Bullet Bill cannon at his head. And Mario makes his way back to Princess Peach, and she asks how everything went, and Mario replies, "Fine. Everything's fine." and then proceeds to drink himself into a stupor, gets into a fight with Luigi, and ends up sleeping it off in the gutter.
So basically, Peach, Mario and the toads take over mushroom kingdom and kick out the goombas, bowser turns the infection into bricks to stop them and kidnaps the leader, who he thinks is a good person, to save her and to give his kids a mother, but then the psychopath Mario goes through and kills his own allies and steals the koopalings' mother, and then bowser keeps trying to get he back to give his kids a mother and to save a neighboring monarch from an infection. He sure sounds like the good guy to me.
I used to believe Bowser was once a regular human in a relationship with Peach before becoming the spiked turtle we all know and love. Similar to Beast in Beauty and the Beast
Bowser is not a real Evil Person. He may be egoistic, greedy and high tempered, but if you take a look at the RPG-Games he's also shown to be caring, to be fair and have a soft side. He even does have Hobbys and Interests like participating in Quizshows hosted by his Minions (Paper Mario). MatPat is right. Bowser is an Orphan and was raised by Kamek, but Bowser never reffered to him as his Dad. He couldn't accept that his Parents had abandoned him and so his Heart began to harden. Maybe he found the Koopa Kids and started to realize, that they have a much harder life than him without anyone to guide them in their ways or give them a purpose. Thats where he made his first good deed to adopt them and teach them everything he knows and to be a father figure to them as he had wished for himself. The Main reason for kidnapping Princess Peach is that he is truly in love with her and that he regards her as the missing Piece to make his life perfect. He would have a real Family at long last. that's what makes his Story even more sad, because he already has a family. Peach will never fall in love with him naturally and the fact that he does not accept this makes his Situation so difficult and even worse. If a Person is dedicated to fight for his rightful Place in the World and his Dreams and Wishes, that Person will continue to fight until it has achieved his Goals. And so with Bowser. He will stop at nothing! He will never give up! He will always try! Regardless of how much more he will loose or be humiliated. And thats why everyone and I love him so much. This is his best feature! His Determination! No one is born evil. people become evil because it is the World that makes them become evil, but even evil Persons can have good traits if they have something they want to protect or they just act to be evil to get attention. Take Mario Party for instance: Why is Bowser always crashing the Party? Because he is sad to not being invited. So he invites himself. There is so much more behind this Character. And I'm glad that he had accompanied me since my Childhood. He may be the big baddy of the Mario Series, but for me he will always be my true Hero. A hero does not exist without a Villain and light does always shine the brightest, when it is deep dark. It is good to be bad! Long life the King of the Koopas!

You know, i never hated bowser. I actually love him, he’s my favorite Nintendo character after Luigi. Thats why my favorite Nintendo game is Mario and Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story. Because you can play as Bowser. But after this video, i love him even more. Maybe even shared 1st with Luigi.

Yoshi is actually being used and abused by Mario. That's why he never openly shows affection towards Mario, that's why he runs away when you're hit in Super Mario World, and why your game can keep going even if he dies. Mario is abusive towards him, but he knows if he runs away the punishment will be just as great.
Here's how to turn this in to a tragedy: Bowser had a wife, but she died either giving birth to Bowser Jr, or was killed in an accident, this could have happened before he adopted the Koopalings.

I actually feel bad for Bowser now.
Could you imagine a Mario game where you start playing, Peach hasn't been kidnapped, there are no enemies, and you just make your way to Bowser's castle, only to find him sitting on his throne, completely dejected, the Koopalings despondently wandering around the castle, and Bowser Jr. crying in his room whilst hugging a plushy Princes Peach?
And Mario approaches Bowser and says, "What's-a-matter you, eh?" and Bowser replies in a low, husky voice, "I tried so hard. I only wanted them to have the family I never had. The love that was denied me. But it's too late now. It's too late." and that's when he points a Bullet Bill cannon at his head.
And Mario makes his way back to Princess Peach, and she asks how everything went, and Mario replies, "Fine. Everything's fine." and then proceeds to drink himself into a stupor, gets into a fight with Luigi, and ends up sleeping it off in the gutter.

So basically, Peach, Mario and the toads take over mushroom kingdom and kick out the goombas, bowser turns the infection into bricks to stop them and kidnaps the leader, who he thinks is a good person, to save her and to give his kids a mother, but then the psychopath Mario goes through and kills his own allies and steals the koopalings' mother, and then bowser keeps trying to get he back to give his kids a mother and to save a neighboring monarch from an infection. He sure sounds like the good guy to me.

I used to believe Bowser was once a regular human in a relationship with Peach before becoming the spiked turtle we all know and love. Similar to Beast in Beauty and the Beast
Bowser is not a real Evil Person. He may be egoistic, greedy and high tempered, but if you take a look at the RPG-Games he's also shown to be caring, to be fair and have a soft side. He even does have Hobbys and Interests like participating in Quizshows hosted by his Minions (Paper Mario). MatPat is right. Bowser is an Orphan and was raised by Kamek, but Bowser never reffered to him as his Dad. He couldn't accept that his Parents had abandoned him and so his Heart began to harden. Maybe he found the Koopa Kids and started to realize, that they have a much harder life than him without anyone to guide them in their ways or give them a purpose. Thats where he made his first good deed to adopt them and teach them everything he knows and to be a father figure to them as he had wished for himself. The Main reason for kidnapping Princess Peach is that he is truly in love with her and that he regards her as the missing Piece to make his life perfect. He would have a real Family at long last. that's what makes his Story even more sad, because he already has a family. Peach will never fall in love with him naturally and the fact that he does not accept this makes his Situation so difficult and even worse. If a Person is dedicated to fight for his rightful Place in the World and his Dreams and Wishes, that Person will continue to fight until it has achieved his Goals. And so with Bowser. He will stop at nothing! He will never give up! He will always try! Regardless of how much more he will loose or be humiliated. And thats why everyone and I love him so much. This is his best feature! His Determination! No one is born evil. people become evil because it is the World that makes them become evil, but even evil Persons can have good traits if they have something they want to protect or they just act to be evil to get attention. Take Mario Party for instance: Why is Bowser always crashing the Party? Because he is sad to not being invited. So he invites himself. There is so much more behind this Character. And I'm glad that he had accompanied me since my Childhood. He may be the big baddy of the Mario Series, but for me he will always be my true Hero. A hero does not exist without a Villain and light does always shine the brightest, when it is deep dark. It is good to be bad! Long life the King of the Koopas!
