I always loved calving time it's like christmas present each one is different. The miracle of birth is special the wedge shape of the calf to gently spread the mothers hips(wide hips calving ease) the contractions act as cpr all designed to bring new life. The one thing I've also seen in beef but not dairy is what i call the beef cow shimmy when the last push comes the cow gets up and shimmy her rear end tossing the calf out that final shock to get it going seen many beef do it but never a dairy cow.. Thanks for the video I'm retired no cows to watch until today
My life long dream is to own a ranch. My Dad always had cows and ranches. I love watching you do your thing. Someday soon I will be doing the same. Thanks for sharing!!!!!
Oh how I love Calves, Had to be my favorite time, But having a Dairy Farm, We had Calves all year round. I do miss those days. I just tried to buy 2 bull calves to raise for our own beef and My God are they expensive. Low end at $350 to high end of $650 to $1000. We use to sell bull calves for $25, Times have sure changed. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thanks for tuning in! We do own a small herd in partnership with my in-laws, but we do not own the herd in our day-to-day care, the herd featured here.
We do have a population of both deer and antelope around here. The calves will get their ear tags and first vaccinations at around 30 days give or take a few of age.
´Killing predators isnt the only option to minimize predation. Better mother instinct, adding animals to the herd that scares of predators, keeping the animals in a herd and not spread out, is all things that helps prevent it. I can see that Idaho wants to get rid of almost their entire wolves population which I believe for sure will have unintended consequences.
Thanks for tuning in! I don't believe I made any mention of killing predators. Up until this incident really haven't had much trouble with them killing. And I actually don't mind the coyotes being in with our cows. What's upsetting is when they take down a newborn calf like they did in this video when there's plenty of afterbirth in the pasture for them to eat.
Your girls are precious!
Good to see another video. Thank you. Blessings
Thanks, Betty Jo!
Hello there. I can see you have two lovely little helper's.
Awesome video, educational and beautiful scenery. 👍🙏
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Another good one. What a great way for kids to grow up!
Thanks Phillip! I really can't think of a better way to grow up. I sure feel fortunate to have grown up in agriculture!

😂 she says ; it ain’t that cute. 👍
Right?! I thought for sure she'd think it was cute, but I guess I thought wrong. 😂
Great video
Thanks!
3:24 was going to be a question. Coyote.
I would like to know if you ate the Prairie chicken ? That sure is nice Country there.
Thanks I enjoy your videos. Do you own the cattle that you manage ?
Thanks for tuning in! We do own a small herd in partnership with my in-laws, but we do not own the herd in our day-to-day care, the herd featured here.
Nice.. do you have any deer or antelope in that country.. when do you earmark your calves..
We do have a population of both deer and antelope around here. The calves will get their ear tags and first vaccinations at around 30 days give or take a few of age.
Won't that coyote keep coming back and feeding until he's killed?, just wondering how you handle the predators?
What State is your Ranch in ?..Montana ?
When will you ear tag the calves?
They will get their tags when their about 30 (give or take a few) days old. That's when we give the first vaccines as well.
Swaths of green vegetation....???
The swaths of green are mostly cool season plants and where there's more moisture in the soil.
Are you in Wyoming?
We are in Nebraska.
@@FaithFamilyBeef Sand Hills?
Yep! We’re in the Sandhills.
👍👌🇨🇦❤
