Searching for Georgia Gold

- #ilovervlife #georgiagold #dahlonegagoldmine I’ve always been intrigued with the idea of searching for Georgia gold. Prior to the 1849 California Gold rush, Georgia had its own starting in the early 1830’s. While the Georgia gold boom was short lived, it’s still known today as having the purest gold ever found. My search started with a tour of the Consolidated Gold mine, traveling nearly 900 feet underground. From there, the journey continued to the Dahlonega Gold Museum located in the restored 1836 Lumpkin Country Courthouse, one of the oldest courthouse buildings in Georgia.

Thanks John. Was surprised I found any gold! Understand now how you can get bit by the gold bug.
Some kinda great video Jerry!!! I can say that as I'm from So. Ga. Lol :)
Thanks
A very good video! Several years since I have been, need to go back soon! Go on a weekday, less traffic!!!
Agree. We went on a Thursday. Fun time.
Good video the gold rush started in blairsville Georgia and then went Dahlonega because the gold was much stronger there and another good bit of history is that blairsville Georgia is the first in flight too not the north Carolina and the right brothers.
I didn't know that. Interesting.
We love Dahlonega. Visited their last fall and stayed at the Smith House. Where did you camp when visiting there ? We'd like to take the 5th wheel next time.
South of the mountains, Leisure Acres Campground in Cleveland. Check their website, most spots are big rig friendly. Just minutes from Helen and Dahlonega. If you want to be on the north end of the mountains, Trackrock in Blairsville. The pavilion area is big rig friendly. Fall is popular. Book now.
I visited this gold mine some many years go when gold was at a much lower price. And they stated that at that time it cost more to mine the gold then it was worth. But if the price got high enough, they would go back to mining again. Since that time gold has risen substantially and I was wondering if they started mining again?
They haven't started again. There were recent survey marks. We asked if something was in the plans. We got one of those "can't confirm or deny " comments.
Awesome, when is the best time of the year to travel there when its not to hot?
Late October is our favorite. Oktoberfest and a number of festivals in the area.
@@iLoveRVlife Thank you and thank you for your videos
Glad we can share Michael.
Yeah, I think the greed that drove companies to rape the earth with hydraulic mining was just that; pure greed. Loved your video and thankful for y'all always taking us on your journeys. This looks like a beautiful little town. Safe travels, y'all!
Time has allowed, the area to recover from the hydraulic mining. Nice place to visit.
@@iLoveRVlife - I'm glad to hear that. Having seen documentaries on hydraulic mining in the past, it always looked to me like much of the damage was pretty much permanent because the topography would never again be the same. Glad to hear they did something to make it look good again.
So, did you get Joan some jewelry? 🙂
Hi Liz. Thought about it, but bought her some nice Navajo pieces a few days before. Next trip I’ll take Santa with me 🎅
I Love RV Life, you are a good man. 😀
I hope Joan got her a pretty pair of gold ear rings or gold necklace
Definitely next trip!
