    DD-WRT is sweet! Very capable. I use on old wifi routers for wireless bridges and APs where it is difficult to run network cable.

    Ah man DD-WRT is still a thing? Geebus, I used that firmware back in the day on the ol Linksys WRT54G. Flashed many a routers with the firmware. Was amazing to take a $50 router and give it features of a router that would have cost hundreds of dollars at the time.

    I used an old router with ddwrt on it years ago to get free internet, You can turn it into a nice wireless capture like a repeater with an outdoor antenna. I could use it to scan the neighborhood for wifi with no passwords. I did not pay for internet for a good 3 years. That was way back before the current tech. Wireless g I believe.

    @redpandamining so you set up the express vpn for the miners and what are you using for personal devices the ISP ip? Or you set up another vpn?

    Was passing through and noticed the Linksys router. IMHO, OpenWRT (which interestingly you started by saying) is a better open source OS for these devices than DD-WRT. You also need to be careful which Linux kernel is used on that older firmware (if you haven't updated it yet) because anything prior 5.15 had a bug causing the switch part of it to forward traffic like a dumb hub which affected throughput and exposed VLANs.

      That will cost WAY more than this solution plus would have to pay for secondary line installation which is in the hundreds/thousands and doing the secondary line doesn’t hide your location still for privacy.

    What is your latency running through this tunnel? I would be concerned about using this if solo mining.

    • @standalm
      @standalm 9 місяців тому

      Short answer, it will but long answer is it depends. Some VPNs add a lot others are very minimal. Usually VPNs increase latency due to encryption/decryption process but that depends on the hardware doing the encrypt and decrypt and the latency from the where the VPN tunnel terminates to the pool.

    About VLAN 15:38 there should be under Setup tab subtabs called Switch Config and Networking where you should be able to configure also some VLAN, there should be some videos about it in UA-cam if you find it difficult

    • @RedPandaMining
      @RedPandaMining  9 місяців тому +2

      Not too worried cause I essentially vlan’d by installing a totally separate router just for the mining rigs already

    • @captainhappy
      @captainhappy 9 місяців тому

      @@RedPandaMining Yup that is correct, you don't need VLAN there if that's all you need. VLAN is for making virtual lans over the whole network over all the devices which support it. I like VLAN and partly using it, but also can say it is not the easiest thing to build up if you have lot of stuff - but can also be very helpful thing *after* you have built it. Just pick easier routes whenever it's not that important.

    • @captainhappy
      @captainhappy 9 місяців тому +1

      @@RedPandaMining Same thing, configured some VLANs into pfsense, and using DD-WRT normally without any VLAN configurations - although connected DD-WRT router to a VLAN enabled switch port so DD-WRT doesn't know it's in VLAN, but pfSense knows. I guess I found it just too difficult for me to enable VLAN in DD-WRT, or other way, didn't need VLAN for those devices connected to the DD-WRT. Well, it's always complicated to describe these things, I bet you think something like this :-)
