What is up with Google and the Assistant? It’s like they purposefully wanted it NOT available for the Wear OS Watches as every single watch has debuted 3.0 without the Assistant being ready. Why do that? Just wait until it is ready. And what precisely is taking so long to get it ready? They *finally* released it for the Galaxy Watch 4 nearly a year after it debuted. Now all the other brands are following a similar lack of assistant availability. Is it really that difficult a task? Once it is running on a particular platform does it have to be endlessly customized for each Watch? I have no idea but it seems whatever way Google is doing it is not a good way. And considering I was able to side load the Go! Version of the Google Asst on even my Galaxy Watch and it worked perfectly well for information purposes and many other tasks,I find it hard to believe Google couldn’t include a “pre release” or “beta” version on every platform for at least 80-90% functionality. Most people with watches would appreciate that far more than nothing at all. Whatever the case, I want to know because it doesn’t make sense and Google has to be playing some weird game or research or something! Someone in the know reveal all to us, please! :-)
My best guess is an ongoing battle between Google and Qualcomm/ Snapdragon at this point. The Pixel Watch came with the Google Assistant ready to go out of the box, due to their integration with Samsung in the development of wareOS3. Google did not optimize the new OS3 for the Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor.
I told myself, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Well, all I can say is I wish I had seen this video first. Though the watch is connected via Bluetooth, the Fossil app (iPhone) will not connect to it. But the strange thing is, I am somehow getting messages from the phone on the watch! I'm baffled!
updated before i watched this, not having google assistant is fine, but that dim "torchlight" might as well not be there at all . anyway major improvement for me as strava was upgraded
You yourself said its not a forced update, its not ready yet, has unfinished features and bugs and also know they will be addressed in future updates for those who did install update early and then lament about same bugs and lack of features, felt counterintuitive
I like the new look and the fact that you now can install the google home app. But there are definitely some big problems with the new update. - battery life reduced to only half a day. - no google assistant, hopefully it will become back soon. - doesn't count steps anymore, not with the fossil wellness app nor with google fit. With google fit it only counts steps in work out more but not my day to day steps. - the watch faces are not so customizable anymore for example the watchface named blue you could pick your own color with a color wheel, that is gone... - loss off Bluetooth connection, I mean it disconnects a lot.... For me the fact that it stopped counting steps is a huge problem, makes the watch almost useless for me so I hope that gets fixed soon. Does anyone else has the same problem with the watch not counting steps in both Fossil's own app and in google fit?
@@karthiknaik3944 indeed funny! It was supposed to get better but my battery life really reduced a lot, even if I turn of continuous heart rate, reduce the brightness of the screen etc.
doesn't count steps anymore but they do register in fossils crappy app, I reinstalled fit and added a complication to a watch face for fit steps and they work
Still waiting on details of a January update, still no Google Assistant as I'm aware but most other issues have been solved. The fossil group is still working on perfecting the new operating system in this watch
Has anyone had better experiences with whatever the last supported wearOS on this watch is? They are on clearance now as fossil group has closed, for very good prices. I'm just curious if they are worth grabbing at a low price if the last supported OS just sucks...
I upgraded and it's really marred my experience with this watch. Its stopped connecting to my Pixel 6 automatically, and it doesn't reset things like steps/distance/calories everyday. E.g. it's 7:22 am and my watch is saying I've done 6934 steps. It also resets all of my settings EVERY DAY. Its been a really bad experience for me. I can't wait until the update comes. If there's a way to roll back to Wear OS2 I will absolutely do it.
I have another reason. For ~3 days now it drops the pairing and will not reconnect without a factory reset and complete re-setup. It will run all day without falling over if I leave it on one of the included faces and don’t run any other apps. It will fail with an hour or so if: I use any app Measure my blood oxygen using the tile Add an external face Go to sleep (Not sure if that is rolling over and blocking bluetooth for extended or accessing sensor data for sleep tracking)
You should be OK if you don't disable the first privacy option in the phone app settings. After a few days of turning things on by the hour and then turning that off it seems to be the culprit. Basically, it is currently set to 'Let me spy or I will continuously fail'
Hey! I updated my Fossil Gen 6 as well to Wear OS 3, is there any kind of way to flash wear os 2 back to the watch to be able to use it again properly? My Google stuff doesn't get synced, watch disconnects from bluetooth automatically after a while and also this new flashlight is deal breaking for me as well, Google killed the whole purpose of the app.
So happy I got rid of the watch. I got the Oppo Watch 3 Pro, doesn't run Wear OS but Android 11 AOSP. has the new Snapdragon W5 Gen1 and the battery lasts 5 days. I love it so so much!!
I updated both my gen 6 watches the other day because Google actually took Assistant off all the watches apparently. I read an article about how the company is trying to cut costs. I'm also having a problem with the display no longer going into the dim mode. The display is always just on unless I change the settings to turn it completely off
I just noticed the other day that assistant is missing from my my watch and was replaced with Alexa option even though I haven't updated 😔. Still not updating yet because I use Google fit a lot
If you swipe down for the quick settings on Homescreen you can tap and hold the battery quick-settings to get in the battery-mode menu like on WearOS 2. Flashlight is probably getting fixed. I can agree with the missing assistant but Fossil publicly announced that before the update and none had to update. Still sad, but if you're one of the early adopters.. seems like you have to swallow that one. I like it better that way than waiting another few month until also Assistant is working on Wear OS 3 with that snapdragon
I updated my Fossil Gen 6 yesterday. Button functionallity is the only thing I lost. The top button is now configured to use Alexa or Google Assistant. That's the only choices. Center button is supposed to take you to Fossil Home (home, launcher, picker, I don't know).
It took awhile, but I got the Flashlight back on the bottom button assignment. But it's a lot dimmer than before. I used to , before I updated, had Google Fit on the top and for me that was excellent. I also was able to move the order of my apps in alphabetical order. I had a bunch of apps that aren't being loaded from Play Store for the watch. My Gen 5, for now, was more flexible how I wanted to set it up. BTW, the Fossil website says to change buttons by tapping on app you want, make sure you're signed in to the right account, and then swipe left. Did not work. Grrrrrrr!
I listen to your video, Google itself is not on Gen 6 update, that's why you don't see anything Google. Google is not allowing it because of there Pixel watch system. I bought Gen 6 and was told to update the next date. Grant, you I have had gen 5 for two years. Given to my Nephew (whom I could not get it back to now) was happy when I was using the OS wear software, upgrade to Fossil OS wear, and lost Google as I stated, where I have Alex on my home stuff, was not happy to get it on my watch. No Google, To get google back I went back to the store and swapped watches (also my Gen 6 every 4 hour reset itself, wiped out my stuff I just ask Gen 6 to do. Happily, the store swaps the watch, so I am back with Google. Until I read that google assist., is in the new update, I will not update, yes, I liked the look but not having Google assist or google stuff. This is why google fit doesn't work, any part of google will not work on the update, hello... The kid is happy with Gen5 because he will not be able to update his software, lol. I will in a year when Google ok's google to be part of the update. Sorry, Alexa, you are ok with my home stuff... it doesn't even message I don't get how Alexa is good for Gen 6? over and out.
I've wore a smart watch since the moto 360 gen1 also!!!! I've noticed that wear os is starting to fail and lose features... I've also noticed you never want to update... Sad but true
My pixel watch is absolutely smoother in operation than my first gen Moto 360 was, but doesn't seem to have any notable additional features, at least. None that I find truly useful.
Since a few weeks. The watch is telling me that there is an Update available in Germany. In the text it says you are not able to down grade after the update. Die Google assistant is not available as well as Google pay it says. I did not Update because I use Google assistant and pay on a daily basis. Why are they doing this?
I believe it to be because of the war Google is having with Qualcomm and not supporting their snapdragon processors in any new phones or equipment. The Fossil watch with the second generation Android Wear software is fantastic, but is useless with the third and you can't go back. At this point, don't do it
@@4KMotoring won't do it. But why even produce an update when it's working okay already? Making an update because of the war with Qualcomm, which already sold it's products for this watch? Who makes the updates? Google or Qualcomm?
The update is made by Google, as is the operating system. Google has their new Pixel watch, and partnered with Samsung to make the new OS3, it's going to be good eventually but there seems to be very little support for Qualcomm products
I'll be releasing another video in a couple days about their latest update, fossil seems to be working hard to restore the utility of this. Watch, the update. Really did set it back but it is available at a pretty cheap price online now which makes it pretty tempting in hopes that it will soon be back up to its original glory
I've a blackview bv9800 pro,the fossil gen 6 worked perfectly fine until I updated wear os 3 and I couldn't connect or go back to version 2, thankfully my watch was 10 months old and I could drive a 220 mile round trip to a fossil shop and they swapped my watch under warranty or else I'd have a very expensive paper weight 😬😬
I am just using my Fossil Gen 6 for the first day and upgraded it... I can't believe Google assistant is not available. Is it expected to be?. Also, should I use Wear OS app in the phone or Fossil app, to control and configure this Smartwatch? Lastly, can you schedule extended battery mode for the night automatically? Thanks a lot!!
With the new wear OS version, you have to use the manufacturer app, not the old Wear OS app. There is a bedtime setting for the watch which turns off the touch sensitivity and some of the features for better battery conservation and sleep tracking. There is a version of an extended battery mode that's not as customizable as it used to be with fossil, but does a lot of the same things.
@@4KMotoring oh I see, thanks for clarifying it! I'll stick to the Fossil app then, it's quite good actually. Regarding the bedtime setting I can't find it, do you mean the extended mode? Or is it like different?. I am currently trying different modes to extend the battery since always on screen seems to consume too much, I'm going to try with screen off and tilt to wake. The thing that I miss is to automatically have the bedtime mode enabled following a schedule. Thanks a lot for replying
Unfortunately not, I spent about an hour with fossil tech support online and came to the conclusion that there is no way to revert back once you upgrade to 3.0
Big savings here down under for Black Friday sales and I am VERY close to taking the plunge on a Gen 6 as I love the design of the watch. Just wondering when the fix will happen in an update for Google Assistant as currently that feature is a dream on my Galax Watch 5 Pro for everyday life.
Unfortunately I upgraded, as fossil sent a message on my phone and watch to upgrade. I have all the problems you have plus I use the fossil "Blue" watch face and every time you press to see the time it momentarily shows the time of the last time you viewed it then catches up to the right time not good. Why don't these manufacturers do that thing called testing before they send updates because all it dos is p*ss users off
I had updated my fossil gen 6 and yet i cannot save my credit card in google wallet before the upgrade i enjoy paying with my contacless google pay apps and now its not working no matter how many times i reset my watch so embarassing this update.
Wish I had watched this video before eagerly hitting download and then install earlier today when notified about the available update. Anyway, when it came to installation and setup, it asked to download the Fossil smartwatch app and pair with the watch. Watch appeared, I clicked pair, matching 6 digit code appeared on watch and phone screens, approved it and nothing after that. App screen seems to hang and after sometime watch screen says 'couldnt pair devices'. So, am stuck ! Any thoughts / help would be much appreciated.
Thanks. I did try that and a whole host of the usual suspects but to no avail. Eventually, tried connecting it to another phone and voilà! It immediately worked. Turns out some problem with my S7 Edge's bluetooth. Even tried clearing the system cache, bluetooth's cache but no success. Anyway, lets see. Thanks for youe reply !👍
A year later, and they've retroactively removed access to Assistant entirely for 2.x wear os watches, as well as deleting huge amounts of functionality. Lock screen? Gone. Ability to turn vibrate on ring on and off? Gone. I've heard that under Wear OS 3, they only provide six built-in faces. Facer and such waste battery power and are inferior in terms of battery life than built-ins. Wish I could find out of that was true.
I am in Singapore and the alexa smartwatch app is not available for my gen 6 wear os 3.. it worked in my previous wear os version before the update, and now i have no assistant :(
After updating to wear os 3, I’m not even able to reply to notifications, making the purpose of notifications on my watch almost useless. Is there any way I can fix this?
Plan to buy as Christmas gift. I wear garmin now and need a running app. But I only wish to wear 1 watch... Can you please help to check wear os 3 support running app like strava or nike run club app? Thank you very much. Appreciate
I am unable to check in the original OS2.3 supports them, but they are generally available on WearOS3. They're still seems to be some intermittent problems using the watch sensors through third party apps that fossil is working on, you may or may not experience intermittent problems with this in the beginning
I have a question... I got the update but I'm confused about the music remote control at the fossil gen 6 it just loading and I drop back to the main watch face.. I mean the remote control for play, stop, skip and volume do you have a solution or it's just a bug ?
Hmm, mine seems to still be working fine after the update. On the home screen there's a little icon on the bottom when music is playing (UA-cam Music App), when I click on it a window opens up to control the music. Try restarting?
I have not yet heard any January updates, but if you're okay without the Google Assistant most of the minor bugs have been solved in the December update.
I really do miss the mapable buttons, Google assistant, and full flashlight. Comparing it to the Pixel watch that actually runs wearOS 3 well it makes me think they really rushed getting the update out there
it feels like Samsung tested it made it all perfect then ripped out there stuff handed it over to fossil and they've bodged it to get it out quick for the fossil gen 6 wellness watch before everyone goes out to buy a pixel watch. doesn't count steps anymore on the watch faces but they do register in fossils crappy app, wellness is just crap unless you want to go for a run, I reinstalled google fit and it works fine for steps, they prob didn't include it because they want you to use wellness or it was rushed out. everything is just buggy as hell when you charge it, it resets a lot of settings and you pretty much have to reset everything how you like it. fossils crappy app was actually for there hybrid watches and its just been bodged so it now connects to the gen 6 What matters now is how quick is fossil going to fix it or are they just gonna say " ahh well kinda works we'll work it out for our next watch"
Waiting for update on ticwatch...yes, we are still without wear os 3. Most of negatives can be fixet by ADB(installing google assistant, custom flashlight, remap app for buttons). Hope we will get it whenever...
It's definitely an interesting time with smart watches, with the new operating system and flagship watches coming out, you think Android watches are on the verge of something big... But seeing how the update has reacted with more typical watches... I'm skeptical
Because I like both and do not have the time nor total content to devote to two completely separate channels. Can't please all the people all the time, sometimes they all watch my UA-cam channel 🤷🏻♂️
Hello You made a very bad update. No more google sync, can't assign actions to the buttons anymore, "do not turn off the screen" will automatically turn on, can't connect to the "facer" app in the app, has no sync with the calendar, no more wrist gestures, doesn't count steps. Finally, I want to tell you that you have ruined everything. You have lost the uniqueness of the watch that I used to be proud of. I bought this watch because of its uniqueness. was distinguished by its design and software. Now there's a useless mass of iron that looks like poor smart watches.
That's how I'm feeling about the watch as well, I was fully planning on returning the pixel watch and using my Fossil watch for another year or two... But after this update it is all but bricked.
I have mixed feelings, OS3 on my Pixel watch runs fantastically, but ware OS2 allowed for far better customization of watch hardware and was pretty well mastered by fossil.

you cannot

WearOS3 does not share compatibility with iOS. The notifications are likely from the Wi-Fi connection rather than Bluetooth pairing
updated before i watched this, not having google assistant is fine, but that dim "torchlight" might as well not be there at all . anyway major improvement for me as strava was upgraded
You yourself said its not a forced update, its not ready yet, has unfinished features and bugs and also know they will be addressed in future updates for those who did install update early and then lament about same bugs and lack of features, felt counterintuitive
True, but WearOS3 was released a year ago by Google... Seems like Fossil had plenty of time to optimize it for their watch...
Funny my battery life has become 1.5 days post update whereas earlier it wouldnt last half a day. Also facing the bluetooth bug, steps bug
@@karthiknaik3944 indeed funny! It was supposed to get better but my battery life really reduced a lot, even if I turn of continuous heart rate, reduce the brightness of the screen etc.
It took a long time to download but battery life is great
doesn't count steps anymore but they do register in fossils crappy app, I reinstalled fit and added a complication to a watch face for fit steps and they work
Hello, the problems related to the transition to Wear OS 3 has been resolved? Is there an update in January? Thanks very much
Still waiting on details of a January update, still no Google Assistant as I'm aware but most other issues have been solved. The fossil group is still working on perfecting the new operating system in this watch
@@4KMotoring thanks a lot for your answer! i waiting for make the update on my watch.
Unfortunately Fossil has confirmed there's no way to go back. Hopefully updates come out quickly
I have another reason. For ~3 days now it drops the pairing and will not reconnect without a factory reset and complete re-setup.
It will run all day without falling over if I leave it on one of the included faces and don’t run any other apps.
It will fail with an hour or so if:
I use any app
Measure my blood oxygen using the tile
Add an external face
Go to sleep (Not sure if that is rolling over and blocking bluetooth for extended or accessing sensor data for sleep tracking)
You should be OK if you don't disable the first privacy option in the phone app settings. After a few days of turning things on by the hour and then turning that off it seems to be the culprit.
Basically, it is currently set to 'Let me spy or I will continuously fail'
Hi my watch Wear 3 Gen 6 is square green ,I think lock ? How
I have received this question a lot, I have emailed Fossil about this and will update everyone with an answer
Sad answer is, there is no way to go back. Once you update, youre stuck with WearOS 3.0
My watch also same like this bro
@@4KMotoring
MK watch completely stuck
Can't even pair to the phone
Even reaching basic settings is not possible
I wish I'd seen this video before upgrading :(
Does anyone have an issue with heart rate not getting appropriately measured after the upgrade?
It seems to be picky about which apps it works with now
Since a few weeks.
Hi, so i shouldn't buy it right? I've read a lot of negative things about this watch since the new update was released.
Mine is on 2.45 and i don't have google assistant. I don't wanna upgrade becuse google apps are remoced
@@4KMotoring Still stuck on pairing... What to do??
Is there anyway to revert back to OS 2? My watch is now buggy and my running apps no longer have GPS working
Unfortunately not, I spent about an hour with fossil tech support online and came to the conclusion that there is no way to revert back once you upgrade to 3.0
whats the status in March 2023? Google3 Assistant came back or will come back?
No major changes thus far that I'm aware of, Fossil still says the Google Assistant will come back... No timeline yet
Big savings here down under for Black Friday sales and I am VERY close to taking the plunge on a Gen 6 as I love the design of the watch. Just wondering when the fix will happen in an update for Google Assistant as currently that feature is a dream on my Galax Watch 5 Pro for everyday life.
From my conversations with Fossil, I'm sure it's something that will happen... There is just no definitive time frame
And those who have michael kors gen 6 good luck with the new app, lot of features missing and forced to use the mk app rather than wear os
I'm stuck at pairing the watch right now
Basically can't use it anymore
Any idea on how to deal with this issue?
It's so buggy I can't imagine why they even made it available. The Pixel watch is working flawlessly on WearOS3, so it is possible
Not sure what phone you're using, restarting both, and possibly redownloading the fossil watch app may help
It's basically become unusable as a smartwatch at this point. Super disappointing.
I am in Singapore and the alexa smartwatch app is not available for my gen 6 wear os 3.. it worked in my previous wear os version before the update, and now i have no assistant :(
Same with meeehh 🥹🥹 soo saadd , how yaaa we hve assistant again?
After updating to wear os 3, I’m not even able to reply to notifications, making the purpose of notifications on my watch almost useless. Is there any way I can fix this?
Waiting for an update from fossil is about the only fix available to this time
@@4KMotoring are they likely to bring any update to fix these issues?
@@shreyas3109 From my conversation with them, they are actively working on solutions to these problems. No timeline has been given.
I waited almost 2 years for this update. Meh.. what's a few more months. Like you said, it's just a watch.
I am not able to connect to wear OS Mobile App.
After the update, the WearOS app no longer works, you must use the fossil smartwatch app
@@4KMotoring I try already restart it doesn't work if I press die small icon it's loading and drop me back to the main screen 🤔
Any update we can safely update Gen 6 to 3.0?
I have not yet heard any January updates, but if you're okay without the Google Assistant most of the minor bugs have been solved in the December update.
I upgraded and I like it except no Google Assistant but that eventually come hopefully sooner than later
I really do miss the mapable buttons, Google assistant, and full flashlight. Comparing it to the Pixel watch that actually runs wearOS 3 well it makes me think they really rushed getting the update out there
it feels like Samsung tested it made it all perfect then ripped out there stuff handed it over to fossil and they've bodged it to get it out quick for the fossil gen 6 wellness watch before everyone goes out to buy a pixel watch.
doesn't count steps anymore on the watch faces but they do register in fossils crappy app, wellness is just crap unless you want to go for a run, I reinstalled google fit and it works fine for steps, they prob didn't include it because they want you to use wellness or it was rushed out.
everything is just buggy as hell when you charge it, it resets a lot of settings and you pretty much have to reset everything how you like it.
fossils crappy app was actually for there hybrid watches and its just been bodged so it now connects to the gen 6
What matters now is how quick is fossil going to fix it or are they just gonna say " ahh well kinda works we'll work it out for our next watch"
Can you still install google assistant on a ticwatch pro?
@@roselanguste4120 yep, I still can do it
Can fossil smart watches pair to I phones
Not ones running WearOS3, anything running earlier software can
I don't even use my gen 6 watch anymore. Can someone please help me roll back??? 😢
Not possible per fossil. Once it's updated, you're stuck there. Seems like WearOS3 was meant to boast Google and Samsung watches only
how to change os 3 the os 2 on
You cannot change back once you upgrade to OS3
Just did the update and found my iOS version won't allow Google pay. Everything about this update sucks. I'm returning my Fossil watch
Unfortunately this update turned a fantastic watch into garage
Does he know he got Scalped by a native😅
Why is a car channel doing a tech/watch review? This is weird.
Because I like both and do not have the time nor total content to devote to two completely separate channels. Can't please all the people all the time, sometimes they all watch my UA-cam channel 🤷🏻♂️
Hello
You made a very bad update.
@@4KMotoring It's true that the clock has slowed down, notifications arrive late, nothing works normally anymore. Why did I upgrade? Can you go back?
I've heard others say the old version now loses the same features.
WEAR OS!
o.O
I like os 3.0 but I have a better watch
I have mixed feelings, OS3 on my Pixel watch runs fantastically, but ware OS2 allowed for far better customization of watch hardware and was pretty well mastered by fossil.
