Your job is customer service in a food and beverage industry. Obviously, it is inappropriate to wear earphones while working. You cannot say anything to this generation without them falling apart. A simple write up based on repeated requests to stop doing said activity is completely appropriate. In addition, how else should this manager respond? The managers should automatically get paid more because they are dealing with this en masse. They also need to be completely supported by upper management when issues like this come up. It is good that this was videoed.
One, the store was closed. Two, my wife said she has never been in a Starbucks where all the baristas weren't wearing earphones. Three, if you had bothered to listen to the video then you would know that other employees had been doing the same thing since the store opened (over a year ago) and had never had anything said to them about it. So this employee is being singled out and held accountable for something that no one else is. And the employee feels she is being singled out because of race. The employee may be right or wrong about the reason, but she is still being singled out and there has to be a reason for that.

@@debkearney5445 There is not enough proof presented in a single video to declare evidence of systematic wrongdoing. I sympathize with the manager in so far that she has to run a glorified daycare for a bunch of whiny woke virtue-signaling toddlers.
I have little doubt that employees are targeted for their push to unionize, but this isn't proof of that, and she's barely yet experienced enough to run an espresso machine let alone champion a unionization campaign IMO.

Your job is customer service in a food and beverage industry. Obviously, it is inappropriate to wear earphones while working. You cannot say anything to this generation without them falling apart. A simple write up based on repeated requests to stop doing said activity is completely appropriate. In addition, how else should this manager respond? The managers should automatically get paid more because they are dealing with this en masse. They also need to be completely supported by upper management when issues like this come up. It is good that this was videoed.
One, the store was closed. Two, my wife said she has never been in a Starbucks where all the baristas weren't wearing earphones. Three, if you had bothered to listen to the video then you would know that other employees had been doing the same thing since the store opened (over a year ago) and had never had anything said to them about it. So this employee is being singled out and held accountable for something that no one else is. And the employee feels she is being singled out because of race. The employee may be right or wrong about the reason, but she is still being singled out and there has to be a reason for that.

@@angiesavage5039 she was instructed to not have headphones in. You work with people, customer service. Need to be able to hear and be aware of needs of customers. It’s really not much to ask from the business giving you a pay check.
