This is absolutely the video that convinced me this guitar was a must have. I have seen some nice videos for this model, but, Jonathan, you absolutely knocked it out of the park! Masterful playing and a great review overall. Thanks for your help....my prs special semi-hollow goldtop should arrive today! Thanks again for your fun and instructive videos.....keep 'em coming!
Thank you for the demo :) you play beautiful. I just ordered this one from a store in reverb and probably will get it next week. it is very expensive but I hope this come to be the only guitar I would like (so I can sell the rest of them).
Great video. It shows how much you appreciate fine instruments. Just one mention - position 3 on the blade switch is brudge and neck pickups only. The narrowfield is cut out. There is no position to select just the narrow field pickup. I just picked one up. An Aquamarine that I've been searching for for the last year. This color has been discontinued is what PRS told me when I placed an order. They are taking 20 months to deliver orders right now but I found a used mint condition on line and received it yesterday! It is so much more beautiful in person than in pictures!! When I compare it to my Strats and Tele and SG it is a totally new world of a different instrument. Thanks for your video!
I really don't think a guitar should be such an expensive instrument but I have to acknowledge the fact that this one sounds excellent, specially in your hands. Great job, Jonathan!
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Jonathan, it's all you - I am the fortunate one that encountered your channel, and now gets to enjoy your art. I am honestly grateful. Plus, I get to try to steal some of your licks! 🤘🏻🙂
Impressive guitar, impressive demo. Always amazed at the PRS coil split/tap switching. There's no discernible drop off in volume when switching to single coil mode.
I hope this dont make you feel awkward but man you're an amazing guitar player. i usually just listen to you play without paying much attention to what your demonstrating. keep it up.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud The main reason its taking me so long is the fact that I bought my Hollowbody ii in January! That cleared my savings account out so I had to start saving from scratch again... And another thing, the 'middle' position, at least if its wired as all the others are, does not give the narrowfield, but the two Humbuckers. This is essentially an expanded Custom 22 with positions 2 and 4 giving the HB and NF - although you can split the HB. The NF only works in position 2 and 4, the rest is like a Custom 24...
To me you get your money's worth with a PRS guitar. A Custom 24 or 22 is a thing of beauty in looks, play-ability and sound, and is still affordable compared to their 10 top or limited edition models. Cheers!
Jon love how your tone sound so sweet and smooth irregardless of what effects you are using .Guess that's what you call taste. You can afford the guitar its whether you want to or not. Cheers. :)
First of all, great video & beautiful playing!! Forgive me if this has already been pointed out, but the middle (3rd) position isn’t the narrow field pickup but rather the outer 2 humbuckers, so you can choose a variation of 4 tones depending on how you split/tap the coils. I just got mine a month ago and love this guitar and figured I’d share that tidbit :)
Oh my god. I ordered this exact guitar and your review of it makes me so excited to get it. I. Honestly think this is the best review of the SHS I have seen yet. Amazing playing
Just wanted to point out that the 3rd position isn’t the narrow field, it’s actually the 2 outside pickups. I’ve heard of some people getting them rewired to have just the narrow field on it’s own, like the Super Eagle. I’ve been waiting about 10 months for mine to arrive, and I might get the rewire myself. Amazing playing by the way!
Nice demonstration of this special guitar , there is something unique about this instrument , I had a few PRS guitar including the 594 ; But this special semi hollow is a fabulous guitar driven or clean . Has special vocal quality when driven wether tapped or in hum-bucker mode . you can get these in the US for $3,800 or $3000 mint used; I hope you obtain one soon if you haven’t already.
I have a 2019 Special 22 PRS as well, I believe you are incorrect about the switching though, the bridge Pickup is first then the bridge and middle, then the bridge and neck together, then the middle and neck, then the neck only....the neck and bridge are both on a separate switch for a thick or thin sound
Jonathan, you are an amazing guitarist and that guitar sounds great under your fingers. What an amazing sounding guitar, and a definite beauty. I own a CU24 and the craftsmanship is impeccable, and has been one of my main guitar for a long time, if I were to replace it, that one would be a candidate. Unfortunately, that is way too expensive for me to justify the purchase. Anyway, great demo.

You deserve to own a PRS just like it Jonathon. You really made that girl sing. Maybe if Paul's attention was drawn to your video he might do you a deal on one. You never know! Great playing bro!
Hey awesome video. One correction, the middle position on the 5 way blade activates the two outside pickups. Can’t isolate the narrow field on this guitar

This is my opinion. I have had numerous PRS instruments. The older 24's are good if you need 24 frets. The overall best sounding and best value are the 22 fret CE Bolts. They lean more toward the Fender sound and have more "snap".
I have both a CE 24 and core 24... and agree. I absolutely love the sound of both but they sounds like different guitars but look the same. The CE is extremely underrated... it's one of best sounding guitars ever made. I love playing my core 24 because of warm tone but I can't put my CE down... it's clear, punchy, and bright. I thought it would be the other way around where I would prefer core. Though for delay and single coil sounds my core sounds significantly better...
When you play a semi hollow how much noise it project acoustically? I’m interested in one but I’m worried that due to the way I position my only microphone for recording videos that too much of the acoustic sound will be picked up. I’m only going on what I’ve heard and possibly misunderstanding how a semi hollow or full hollow actually work. Thanks!
This is a semi solid/hollow. It still needs to be plugged in just like an ordinary Electric guitar. Record this guitar thru an amp or an audio interface.:)
Great playing as in all of your clips. You´re upping your game! From Harley benton to PRS, that´s a step. I was interested in the predecessor of this model (with a normal SC instead of the narrowfield pu) and had once the opportunity to play one but I don´t think the in-between positions sound very strat-like. In my experience you have to commit to only one option of the in-between sounds (either splitted or not splitted) and set the amount of "quack" by adjusting the height of the middle pickup. I also prefer on both humbuckers the neck side coil to be active when splitted. I assume that in this guitar the bridge side coil of the bridge humbucker remains active when it is splitted. But that can be changed easily. Finally I think the mahogany / maple wood combination weakens the singlecoil sounds because low mids and highs are accentuated but the sound is lacking the high mids to cut through a mix. I have an old Ibanez Blazer H-S-H (with typical "strat" woods) were the splitted positions sound pretty authentic whereas the split sounds of my Valley Arts Bent Top T (mahogany body / Rosewood neck, converted from H-S-S to H-S-H) tend to get lost in a band context.
I noted that the neck pickup is 'upside down' and, when I see this on a 22-fretter, I'm wondering, "Are they trying to mimic the pickup position for a 24-fretter? I mean, there is no magic coming from the lower edge of fretboard wood... or is there?!! (And I always fear the fine edge of wings on the inlays over time... wearing down, splits, tear-offs...sigh... there is no perfection.)
Fender American Performer Telecaster Hum If you get a chance could you demo one of the above guitars i have one there great, maybe you could give us your opinion on one i think you would the Tele performer hum thanks
HI Jonathan, great video. Any thoughts on which prs guitar has the most twang. Would it be the semi hollow or solid body electric? Its hard to tell without playing both. I'm looking for the brightest sounding guitar. Thanks for any advice you may have.
Twang? As in a Strat kind of sound? There’s at least five PRS that do a good job with it. Silver Sky, Fiore, Studio, 509 and this guitar, the Special. I have a Studio from 2013 with the two Narrowfield pickups, and it’s like a Strat on steroids. My 509 can sound like a Strat with a rosewood fingerboard, as can this guitar, especially if it has a maple neck, and even more so with a maple fingerboard.
@@8sigreg Thanks for the reply. Yes I was looking for something with a lot of bite and punch. I will defintely check out the guitars you listed. Thanks so much.
I already have a PRS core 24, a CE 24, and an SE 245. How does this compare? Is the added pickup and switching really worth it...or does it seem more like the same? Thanks.
No competition.... This PRS here is limited edition for a reason and worth about 20 harley bentons or more. Its not a fair comparison and cannot be compared 1:1 (harleys being $300 and this guitar being $6000)
@@filippop.6172 agree... I've got a ce 24, core 24, and SE 245 custom. The SE 24 feels and sounds like a toy next to the three PRS guitars I own... but oddly my se 245 sounds and feels as good as my custom 24... even the pickups surprisingly... sounds like a core 22...
Hi Jon, real nice playing!!. i just got a Special semi hollow, its great... hey i see the link to the backing track, but what is the name of the song? thanks
You should mod your CE to match what Jon Mayer did on the PRS super eagle. It's pretty much the same as this guitar but with a maple neck like the CE... plus a built-in preamp and treble boost. I have a CE 24 and a core 24... and the CE sounds different than the mahagany neck guitars like this... but in a different good way. Jon Mayer is more of strat guy so went with maple neck to get more strat tele like tones than your would get on mahogany.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud thanks... I did watch it great video. I was just commenting on the other dudes comments to let him know about modding his CE guitar to be like super eagle... since I have a ce too...
Hey Johnathan how's it going. That's definitely one expensive guitar that I can't afford. I'd prefer a PRS in black and a solid body PRS Custom 22 would be the one I'd go for. Yours truly Gary from Tasmania
people always comment how good the harley benton copies are for the price ... but the PSR originals really sound way better... so much more relaxed and organic - why is that?
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I'm pretty sure I'd have absolutely no problem distinguishing HB from PSR at any time by ear alone - at least on sounds from clean to blues, but probably always/all the way
Hey Jon, do you personally prefer this PRS Special model or the PRS Studio model? Yea, with any of your 🎸🎶 videos it’s always a click on like 👍… & already subscribed. 😉
Another great demo/review! In all fairness, how does the CST-24 compare in feel, tuning stability, tones, etc? I know comparing a $200 guitar to one that is several thousand is insane. That said, do it. 😎😎
lol!!! I know that sooner or later , someone would pop that question!! That being said, The CST24 hold out really well! My CST24 plays well and intune. I guess a good proper setup is so essential. This PRS was so well setup from the factory that I don't think anything needs to be done at all . 🤓✌
Hi, I just saw another review of the cst, and the guy is well respected among us viewers, and he kept saying it was set up perfect, and I heard it sounds great. So we can compare them to PRS, but really they are both legitimate and nice guitars. I had heard a lot about H Benton needing all the work done on arrival back when I saw the first reviews, but now guys are saying they are fine out of the box. Seems you could really like either one!
Jonathan Koh I see. Sometimes when I play a new style of instrument, I will find little ideas because of the different tones or the different feel. Glad you like it.

6 grand.. boutique guitars are a bit going nuts. i own expensive guitars including a prs custom 22, medium priced ones, and low priced ones. i truly believe there is no real correlation between tone and price. i have a relatively cheap G&L that sounds awesome and a couple expensive guitars that sound meh and vice versa. the difference usually lies in the the quality of the finish and the setup. this particular prs doesnt really sound all that great to my ears.

Hi Jon, real nice playing!!. i just got a Special semi hollow, its great... hey i see the link to the backing track, but what is the name of the song? thanks
Thank you ...It's called "Look to the skies"
I wonder if it would make sense to add an antiquity single pickup to my CE 24 add a 5 blade switch ?
Why not??✌️😀
You should mod your CE to match what Jon Mayer did on the PRS super eagle.
Thad Logan Er.. in case you didn’t watch the video.. the guitars do not belong to me 😝
@@JonIsJustTooLoud thanks... I did watch it great video. I was just commenting on the other dudes comments to let him know about modding his CE guitar to be like super eagle... since I have a ce too...
Ah. Lol
Brother you can pLaY!!!!💥💥💥💥💥💥💥🎸!
WOW!!!!!
Well played friend. How did you control yourself and not buy one? It sounds amazing!!!
lol
Hey Johnathan how's it going. That's definitely one expensive guitar that I can't afford. I'd prefer a PRS in black and a solid body PRS Custom 22 would be the one I'd go for. Yours truly Gary from Tasmania
Hi Gary..I’m doing fine...yes. It’s really expensive.😀
i really love this guitar, how much?
Approx USD5000 plus
nice playin
Thank you Gregory✌️🤓
It’s a beauty alright!
I think the middle position is both humbuckers!
Yes you are right...
people always comment how good the harley benton copies are for the price ... but the PSR originals really sound way better... so much more relaxed and organic - why is that?
It’s the materials used.. and the design. And sometimes people just like expensive things..✌️❤️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I'm pretty sure I'd have absolutely no problem distinguishing HB from PSR at any time by ear alone - at least on sounds from clean to blues, but probably always/all the way
WOW That's so exciting riffs On That Beautiful Hollow 🎸 🤘 🤘🤘🎸 . Lol TroyFrost / Troyster 😎 CoolRiffs😎 Cool 🎸
Thank you Troy 🤓✌
Hey Jon, do you personally prefer this PRS Special model or the PRS Studio model? Yea, with any of your 🎸🎶 videos it’s always a click on like 👍… & already subscribed. 😉
The special...
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Cool, thank you Jon for your response, appreciated.
Jonathan Koh, good to know. Now all you need to do is run that American Sound as a direct source, no external IR, and post your thoughts. 😎😎
Jonathan Koh only thing you have to do to it is to play it ☺
Hi, I just saw another review of the cst, and the guy is well respected among us viewers, and he kept saying it was set up perfect, and I heard it sounds great. So we can compare them to PRS, but really they are both legitimate and nice guitars. I had heard a lot about H Benton needing all the work done on arrival back when I saw the first reviews, but now guys are saying they are fine out of the box. Seems you could really like either one!
Yea.. Most of my HB guitars arrived with minimum setup. 🤓✌️
Great playin' Jonathan. Wonderful sounding guitar...a "little" bit too expensive for me ;-)..
Lol .. And for me too!! ✌️🤓
Wow
Killer guitar, they should have finished the back of the neck like the headstock.
There is another model of the same series with a rosewood neck 🤓✌
Nice Vid Jon! Was there a loss in volume when you Split the Pickups? Please keep up the Good Work my Friend!
Nope..non at all🤓✌️
Do you get to keep it for awhile? You should play for awhile and see if a new song idea pops up from playing a new guitar!
Hahaha yes.. Just fir a little while... But I get my song ideas by playing on any guitar..🤓✌️
Jonathan Koh I see. Sometimes when I play a new style of instrument, I will find little ideas because of the different tones or the different feel. Glad you like it.
What is he playing thru?
Hi Jonathan. You already probably get enough of my ooooooos and aaahhhss over your brilliant playing and skills. But dang. You have an amazing talent. I'm learning so much from your channel. Still kind of a novice yet but man I'm in love with the guitar now. I've been utilizing the GT1 and my passion for ambient atmospheric blues, or my name for my own genre. HHahaha. I hope you get a chance to check out my latest video. It's a simple loop o made and airy bluesy soloing. I'm so in love with this entire experience. Thanks again bro!!
I'm glad i was able to inspire and ignite a spark in anyone..I thank God for the talent and the ability to share it with! You have a great week ahead 🤓✌
@@JonIsJustTooLoud You too my friend!
Sorry, how much is one grand? Do U mean this guitar is $US 6000?
6k SGD
3.3kg??? It's quite heavy than I expected.
✌♥
Nice guitar man, but ur playing is awsome!!👍👍👍🤘🤘🎶🎵🎵🎵💥💥😀😀😇😇😇🤓👍🎉🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶
Thank you 🤓✌

Yes it is!!! 😆
A million times better than a Harley Benton...
You're going to have to wear a tuxedo to play that pretty thing!
And a top hat no less!😆✌
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Much better than a bucket of chicken.
@@gregt4202 lol!!!!
Great guitar, one that will never grace my hands unless I win the lottery, unlikely as I never do it. 😀
Lol....I know what you mean.. But you will never know brother!!
Coil tap , not coil split. The tap is a much fuller sound than the split.
Thanks
Yes got s/hand river blue top beautiful top natural lite brown wood on back
I love so many switch options strat/tele es335 mix . Pick up low wind 58 omg

Would like in mccarty finish but that picky ah ah just luck get one the colour on it look million dollar on maple 👍
Thanks for sharing!
6 grand.. boutique guitars are a bit going nuts. i own expensive guitars including a prs custom 22, medium priced ones, and low priced ones. i truly believe there is no real correlation between tone and price. i have a relatively cheap G&L that sounds awesome and a couple expensive guitars that sound meh and vice versa. the difference usually lies in the the quality of the finish and the setup. this particular prs doesnt really sound all that great to my ears.
Its all in the eye of the beholder/owner which in this case, is not the pragmatic me 😄
Must be nice to be all rich and buy any guitar you decide too.
Ya.. too bad I’m ain’t that rich🤣
