Hi Nick, as an old timer who came to Colorado in 1950 and spent most of my life north of Denver, I REALLY enjoyed this video. RMNP and the Indian Peaks region to the South was a great playground in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, after which I branched out to the rest of the West, especially Utah. Climbed Longs Peak in the 70s and distinctly remember the Chasm Junction and thinking there's nothing over that way...How wrong I was. My climbing days are over but it's wonderful to be able to watch videos like yours and follow along on Google Earth/Maps in my old age, that was a fantastic hike/climb I would have loved to have made... At 21:23, looking SE from Chasm Junction one can see two "recent" land slides into two small lakes in the valley, viewed on Google Earth they are quite clear. Observing some of the precarious boulders in your video, one can appreciate how dangerous those slopes can be, and how important it is to not be foolish or careless...Thanks so much for your effort and for posting.
That's what I love about watching your video's. There spectacular! I know I never be able to hike up to Mt Meeker an yet I feel like you bring me there! The scenery is spectacular! Thanks for making your videos every week an bring me along!
That looks much more difficult than standard Longs Peak trail. Oh my, great video and yes, Jamie is part Mountain Goat!
Jamey is a freakin beast. He could have knocked an hour off that time if I wasnt slowing him up. He just did Pagoda the other day. I got like 1 speed and its not super fast.. but I get there. And yes, I think dropping it down and around the notch from the loft looks like a hard way to get longs. Plus its tricky over there. You have to locate Clarks Arrow. Its on my dream wish list but I dont know..
Amazing photography! I like that you incorporated the natural sound - particularly the waterfalls. Felt like I was there -- although I cannot imagine me making it that far! Great vid!

That ledge walk was scary. My God what a beautiful place this was. I just wanted a sip of that cool water coming out of that mountain :)
I have drank from that water on my first trip up that route. It was so fresh and cold!

This is easily the best mountain climbing video I've ever seen. This was really well done. It had a perfect balance of natural sounds and music, also not one of those annoying deals playing the same music over and over for 30 minutes. I felt like I was there and could really see the route. I find videos like this, especially the way you did it, really helpful when I'm looking for mountains to climb and trying to figure out the route. Thanks a lot. I might be going for this one this summer.

Mt Meeker is a worthy endeavor in itself. Harder route you took than most fourteeners. Ironic how just 89 additional feet would make its popularity skyrocket.
I believe you have inspired us to give our first shot at Mt. Meeker later this summer. We were originally planning on trying it first from the South ridge class 2 option from the Sandbeach Lake TH, but after watching this video, and your older Loft video where you hiked it alone, this route looks way more adventurous and fun. We are still working up the nerves to try Longs one day.
This is the route to do for Meeker. Its one of the shorter routes, plus going up the Couloir is super fun and this takes yiu directly to the true west summit. There is a wicked knife edge that connects the two summits. I will not get near that thing. But if you can get this you can get Longs. Actually if you can get Powell, Alice or Nimbus you can get Longs. Longs looks worse on video, but once your up there it isnt so bad. Its really not technical at all, you just needs lots of gas in the tank.

Very beautiful area. I took a friend as far as Chasm Lake Junction once. No, one doesn't have to summit Longs to enjoy what this area has to offer.

Nick life is too short and precious not to do what you love and what brings you joy. My body is pretty broken and have a hard time doing the things I love but still try. Your videos are far more than just hiking videos, they take us along and get to experience things that we can only dream about!

My son and I did this same ascent in August 2016. We crossed the knife edge and descended via the Meeker SE ridge. This was my favorite hike ever, and your video brought back some wonderful memories. Thank you again for a great video Nick.
Awesome! Ive always been scared to death of that knife edge. I dont even see how you would get down to it from the east side. But that would be a sweet loop to do.. Thanks for watching.
We went up and along the base of meeker today. Very challenging, great weather though!
Its a tough mountain! The weather lately has been incredible. Im typing this from the summit of Gabletop Mtn and its another great one!

I could have sworn I've watched your video showing you climb Mount Meeker before but I don't remember "The Ledges". I'm glad you took me up there through video because I don't think my vertigo will let me handle it! Hahaha. Great job and thanks for not giving up!
Ive done 4 different Meeker videos in the past. Hit it via Meeker Ridge, Iron Gates, Hunters Creek and The Loft. The Loft route is the only one with ledges like that. There is also a class 3 knife edge that divides the two Meeker peaks. Ive never been on it. Thanks for watching!

Hi Nick, thanks for your awesome videos! I’m planning to hike Meeker in the coming weeks and am trying to decide between the southwest route or loft route. I see that you’ve done them both! How would you compare them?

Where else can I get 4K video of off-the-beaten-path trails in my happy place park? No where else. (not like I'd ascend up Mt. Meeker or Longs!)
And you popped the knee again? I stand by what I said in the other video: put a lid for the rest of the summer/fall hiking season and let that knee rest/heal up. It sounds like it needs it quite a bit even if you get the itch to be out on the trails again. (And maybe getting it looked at since I had repeated pops on mine when I'd first injured mine but then needed repair surgery that fall and missed the entire volleyball season (and basketball since this was the dark ages!) to rehab and heal it.
This one was just a small popper, but I felt it for a while. Its an ongoing thing. Some pops are just worse than others and this was on the minor end. I dont have any insurance so cant get it looked at. I just have to keep being careful. The poles help because they provide extra stabilization and really takes the weight off slamming my feet down... I got some more good off the beaten path hikes on the way!
Nick, great videos. I'm heading up Mount Meeker on July 14th and Storm Peak on the 12th. I've hiked Longs in the past. What's your best advice going down Meeker?
Good luck on the hikes! I would just say to leave some gas in the tank for the descent. Depending on how long you think it will take, you might want to stash a drink for the way down.
Going to this area of the park on Friday (weather permitting), your last video almost had me changing plans to hit Desolation instead, but this has reminded me of how incredible this area is.
How much extra time would it have taken to add Longs then descend down the Keyhole route?
Ive never attempted Longs from the Loft side.. Im not really sure how long it would take to descend the notch and then back up to Homestretch. Id hate to even guess a time because I have no idea. Also depends on how fast you hike. Like Jamie could probably do it in about half the time it would take me.

So when you ascend, do you just trail the waterfall? Because I encountered a lot of gravel.
Sorry I missed the question. I stayed to the left of the waterfall going up, however I was kind of in and out of the water. There was water everywhere. Ended up soaking my boots. It was pretty wet up there this year. When I did it a few years ago it was relatively dry.
What equipment do you think is needed for a winter summit of meeker
Oh man.. A helicopter? Ha! Jk.. probably need to have legit crampons and ice axe. But when it comes to that type of extreme winter climbing I am not the expert. I slid about 400 feet down the Isabelle Glacier (Apache Peak vid).. so I pretty much dont know what im doing.
