Colorado 14'ers: Climbing the Loft route on Longs Peak
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 сер 2020
- Longs Peak is both the monarch of Rocky Mountain National Park and one of the most popular (and crowded) 14'ers in Colorado. The standard Keyhole route is a class 3 scramble that can see hundreds of summit attempts in a single day. The Loft route, also a class 3 scramble, avoids the traffic of the standard route by circumnavigating Longs Peak on its southern side.

Excellent presentation. Higher than any point possible in my State. Colorado is a treasure.
Hands down best beta video I have found for the Loft Route! I will definitely be using this for my Meeker expedition next summer!
i know I am pretty randomly asking but does anybody know of a good place to stream new series online?
@Cash Rex i use Flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Cash Rex I use FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)
@Cash Rex i watch on FlixZone. You can find it by googling :)
Most instructional video I’ve seen on this route. Thank you
This is the best loft route video I've seen so far. Great shots of where to turn or climb up on the ramp and where to downclimb off to loft.
A man who knows the details.
Great video quality and explanation of the technical sections of the route!! Thank you!
Great video, best I've ever seen on the Loft route.
Thanks! It's one of my favorites. The entire route feels nothing short of classic from beginning to end.
Great stuff! Amazing shots and editing.
Wow beautiful hiking trail...Superb👍
Thanks - Great video. Didn't know that route existed. I climbed Longs in 1987. Looking forward to a trip back to RMNP in a couple of weeks.
This looks less scary than the keyhole route. Good job
There are so many places that are difficult to find on this route. If you can't route find, you will be terrified the whole time.
Great video on the Loft Route -- well done!
Great video! Making me wish it was summer already!
You show the route so well!
Great description of the route.
Fun. Lots of helpful detail on the route.
Awesome highlights of the crux of the route. I’ve gotten stuck at that part and turned back in fear of cliffing out - hopefully not I know how to do this route next season
Just found the channel. Incredible hike and video guys. I hiked to chasm lake in june and it was one of the most beautiful hikes I've done to date. I'm hoping to summit longs next year and I had never heard of this route before. Thanks for all the details. going to subscribe.
Welcome aboard Cody, best of luck on your hike next summer. If you end up trying the Loft route, it is mostly snow free by the end of July.
Fantastic video, you do such great job. You need to do more trail videos.
This is a fantastic route although I only made it to the saddle and didn't find the way around the back to the summit. Route finding isn't easy on the upper slabs below the glacier, at about 7:00-8:00 in this video, so take your time because it gradually turns into scree with a big fall potential if you go up the wrong way. Better than the Keyhole Route and off the beaten track.
Another thing to know is that the "homestretch" at the end normally has snow on it, and you need crampons and an axe for about 10 months of the year. Get the beta before heading up.
Great video. Well done!
Thanks!
this is a hard watch..... on Mar. 3 2000 my best friend was training for an accent of Denali. He never came down. He Slid off the loft, 125' foot fall. Last time I was up there was just a few months after when we hiked to the base of the ledges for a memorial........
She did great
Thanks for sharing this hike. Newbie northeasterner. Looking forward to hikes like this as I get better/stronger. Loved the pie in the sky.
Roll no Rocks
I need to lose weight and work on my flexibility before I try this LOL the lady is doing moves that I certainly can't do.
Awesome video, by far the best that I have found for the Loft route. Where did you get your information to follow? Is there a detailed route description available? My son and I are going in about 2 1/2" weeks, I would like to do the Loft route for the road less traveled.
Thanks! Unfortunately, I never found a definitive route description for this route, but I spent the better part of a week researching it from all the various trip reports I could find online. It is an outstanding route! You guys will likely run into quite a bit of snow in both the Loft couloir, as well as getting into and out of Keplinger's couloir. Bring crampons, a short rope and an ice axe. Start EARLY to hit firm snow and you should not only be able to avoid any wet loose avalanche danger, but you should be able to make really good time booting up frozen snow. A start time of about 2:30 or 3 am should be perfect. Have fun!
Did this yesterday. I don't think I found that ramp at the end of the loft. For me it was brutal work. Wobbly legs. 4am from the car to 5:30 pm back in the car. I wish someone made a Video about getting an optimal path through the boulder field. That place sucked. I am only 5ft 10inches, seems Longs is better if you are 6-2 and more.
The beaver.
Why don’t more people take this route? It seems less treacherous than the keyhole.
Why the full packs for a day hike? Am i missing something ? My day pack is about 12 lbs looks like both of you are carrying much more please explain
We each had 4 quarts of water (of which we drank every last drop, hat, gloves, shell jacket, sunscreen, headlight and food for the day. I also had 2 cameras, a tripod, a map, compass and a guidebook. Having done all the fourteeners, many by multiple routes in all types of weather, I consider it worth burning a few extra calories to have enough gear with me at all times to get through whatever comes our way. While I try to bring reasonably lightweight versions of most things, water is always heavy and so are my cameras. But I wouldn't dream of hiking without either one :) Thanks for watching!
Everyone else: great video very descriptive. This guy: WhY ARe yoU sO PRepAreD
Longs Peak summit three times.
