    East meets West. Some Copland echoes followed by a rousing finale from Yardumian's birthplace. A recording new to me which I enjoyed a lot. Thanks.

      Thanks for your comment! The Philadelphia connection is strong in this one! Apart from Yardumian being born there, Brusilow was too, and as a violinist he was concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra who also commissioned and gave the first performance of the symphony.

    Hi Bob, This is definitely a learning curve for me, I had never heard of this composer. I need to hear this a few times I think but as usual your uploads are excellent.

      Hi Nigel. This was new to me when I bought it many moons ago. On my blog page are scans of the very detailed notes by the composer (if you're feeling brave!) musicandvinyl.blogspot.com/2023/01/yardumian-symphony-no1.html?view=flipcard

    I still have my copy which I note was stereo/quadrophonic. You've given me the chance to listen again and re-evaluate!

      I've never had a quadraphonic decoder sadly. It would have been interesting to hear how it sounded in 1970s surround sound (with less than optimal channel separation!).

    Blimey (to lapse into the vernacular!). This is totally new to me (never even head of the composer) but what a startling work given an enterprising run-out by a very savvy orchestra - always have a soft spot for the Bournemouth forces, orchestra or sinfonietta (when that existed). Another one to test the patience of my bank manager! Interesting use of the centre roundel label, a design more usually associated with rock and pop releases from the early to mid seventies (Queen, Cockney Rebel, etc.). Great upload, Sah!

      Yes - I agree with everything you've said! I bought this around the time it was released without knowing anything about it - and was very pleasantly surprised. It came with a booklet of notes about the music by the composer with musical examples (which you can read on my blog page) - great presentation by EMI of really obscure music that probably didn't have a wide audience. It had a US release on HNH Records but as far as I can find out never made it to CD.

      @@ClassicsAndVinyl Sadly, a lot of interesting releases have never made it to CD!

    Bob, you gonna do playlist by cartridge? :P

    • @ClassicsAndVinyl
      @ClassicsAndVinyl  Рік тому

      The easiest way to find out which cartridge was used with what post is to go to my blog musicandvinyl.blogspot.com/?view=flipcard Click on a post there and at the bottom you'll find a tag with the cartridge name; click that and all posts using that cartridge will be selected. This includes videos on my other channel too (jazz, pop, world music etc).
