Thank you. Very easy to do. I followed along step by step and it was very quick and easy. Took no longer then 20-30 mins (from cloning to installing the new SSD). Works like a charm.
don't have an ally, but i've been wanting to expand my laptop storage forever, and every guide/ program i found for cloning my drive just went over my extremely tech-illiterate head-- but this was so clear i think i'll finally be able to do it!
@JoeysRetroHandhelds well SSDs & micro SD cards are different, maybe you're not just paying for storage size but the difference in manufacturing costs for different products 🤔 I guess
would this combine the storage from the 1TB SSD ASUS gives, or is this just "replacing" the storage and transferring the memory? would it be possible to combine the storage to become 5TB?
thanks for this great guide! btw i think you might have had some transfer speed issues or something, my drive which has just 100GB free was cloned in just 42 minutes.
Anyone having issues with the Ally X not recognising the new NVMe? It just loads into Bios and says Storage Not Detected. I've cloned the drive multiple times and still the same issue. Has no problem recognising the original NVMe.
Hey Joey great vid! Quick question...for most of the videos you post, do you record the footage First, THEN record the audio watching the footage? Or do you record audio first, then film the video based on what you said? Looking to start making some videos soon. Thanks!
Hey! I usually will script everything, or in the case of this guide, script as I film/do it. Then record the audio as the last step. But always script first. For reviews, usually script/audio first, then record after and fit into the script.
@@rigoutz6870 I was having a similar issue wondering if there’s enough room in the device to just use a 2280 M.2 with a built on heatsink. Anyway…I think that you should be able to. Just make sure the ssd is decrypted first and that bitblocker is disabled
So i bought a WD SN 850X Black 4TB and i have noticed that the speed is much slower than the regular one. For example before i was getting about 56 - 60 FPS on high settings 900p consistently but I am lucky to even get 50 FPS on same settings now with new drive. Is something wrong? Plz help. I even folllowed your video for the ssd swapping.
Hi I have a couple of questions. I just bought the rog ally X still in the box haven’t opened it yet. Since I haven’t played with it. I want to install a 4 tb. Do I still need to clone the 4 tb hard drive or can I just install it like that since I haven’t played with it yet? And I want to put a 1 tb S D card what do you recommend?
I’m looking to do this upgrade tomorrow. But is it better to clone my whole drive or just start fresh and redownload my games again? I have like 900gb full on the 1tb and feel like it might just be faster to reinstall everything instead of waiting 9+ hrs?
@@jj515789 I just got myself a 4TB 990 pro Samsung and I’m just gonna switch it without downloading any of this bs. Redownload all my games. It’s really not worth taking 9 hours I think lol
Keep in mind the 4TB mp34 used to be well under $200. It frequently went on sale for around $160 last year before NAND price increases. Otherwise yeah, it’s pretty slow. It’s old NAND and older gen 3 controller with only 512MB of DRAM cache. Even so, 10hrs to clone 1TB is way too long even for a hard drive. Something is up with that
thank you for showing this method. i cloned my fresh new Ally X (the space used was

It's super easy!
I just did this a few weekends ago using your older guide. Thank you!
Another great guide. This worked like a charm when I did it for the other ally I had. Thanks again
I hafta say, I am liking these guides. Nice work!
Thanks! This was easy… luckily this was the first thing I did when I got mine (thanks to your video) and it only took about a minute to clone.
Damn can't believe you got 4tb of storage 😳 for a fairly reasonable price
I uh, just bought a 2TB MicroSD card too.. That was not a reasonable price LOL

should i wear some gloves when open the X, to protect electo static from my hands and brick it, like steamdeck
Good tutorial. To anyone watching, do not buy that teamgroup ssd. Its massively overpriced and incredibly slow. Just a heads up.
What SSD do you recommend? I'm looking which one to buy

what is the type of screw driver i need will go to hardware store to get today to open case and for the ssd screw ?

No need to unplug the battery cable?
If you want, go ahead, I felt safe without.
will this work if i have a bazzite + windows setup?

Can I just take my 2230 from my original ally and pop it in the x?
Good question
@TheJmack90 I cannot find the answer anywhere lol

You can. Just need a 2230 to 2280 adaptor to extend. I just put my sn740 into my Ally X
@KoryCoffin awesome and then just no normal updates and stuff?

You can just use Asus cloud recovery if you have nothing you want to keep.
No heatsinks for a 4TB SSD? I hear it runs pretty hot the bigger the size.
You don't need a heat sink at all on the Ally X. You can just use the black stick on the original SSD and slap it on the new SSD.

0:20 damn it, I don’t have one 😭
First step!
This shit never worked. In the end you will want a clean installation - mark this 😂
Man, that SSD is too expensive for the speed you're getting.

Yea my Kingston 4 tb only took 43 mins you definitely get what you pay for 😅
Thats all from me.......
I can't think of anywhere.
