  • Being able to vaccinate your horse is a valuable skill to have on hand. It can save you expensive vet visits and its not that hard to do once you know how! Giving your horse an injection can be a scary idea that's why in this video I show you two horses, one that's never had a shot and one that may have never had a shot but is also an untrained and hard to catch horse. The idea behind that is to showcase the two hardest scenarios so that hopefully your horse makes it look easy in comparison!

Great video and explanation of where! I've found there's very little reaction, even for horses with a bad history with shots, if you pinch a fold with your left hand, then scratch with one finger quite aggressively next to the fold with a right finger for about 10 seconds while holding the fold. Then while still pinching, give the shot where you scratched. The pinch/ scratch method deadens the nerves long enough to give the shot pain free- they don't even notice it going in! If they have a history of really hating shots, keep your back to them, blocking their view of the syringe. The great thing is, you can practice the pinch/ scratch in just a few seconds whenever you groom them, so it's no big deal when shot time comes!

Preferably towards the lower center, of the neck's "inner triangle".👍Easy-peasy!

Your videos are very helpful, and that first horse reminds me so much of my own gelding!

Please do a video on halter braking, my mare is 5 and I have been wanting to start training her but I don’t know how to start. I can pet her and walk around her but I can’t get the halter up her nose and I don’t want to start any bad habits if I do something wrong.

Hi there! This is one of the best video ideas that’s been suggested so far! How wild would you like the horse I use to be on a scale of 1-10?

@@HorsePerfect I think it would be cool to see how you would halter brake a 1 or 2 so we can see the whole process

Flirting with disaster!!! NEVER tie the horse, always have a somebody handle them and ALWAYS pull the plunger back after you stick the needle in to see if it draws blood which means you’ve hit a blood vessel. If you have, pull the needle (not all the way out), change the angle and try again.

What about when you're alone? The plunger pulling back is a great tip and I should have mentioned that thanks!

@@HorsePerfect ya I know, so much of horse farm life requires 2 people. You could run a longer rope through a ring on a post and drape it over your arm. At least he would go back and not up.
I see people leading 2 horses at once and see every possible disaster. I should mention that I have/work with thoroughbreds 😆

@@kathleendircks5577 so I actually use a tie ring which releases if the horse pulls back at all so no need to worry about that. You can’t see it in the video I don’t think because it’s just above the frame but it’s very safe and I hardly tie my horses without one! 😊

I don't know: I've tied hundreds of horses without a problem. Like literally not a single problem. Have also lead hundreds of horses in pairs without a problem. Ranch life!
