  • Mongoose has a full face mountain bike helmet for under $100 called the TITLE full face helmet. I have long been on the search for an affordable full face helmet that could meet my demands:
    -Affordable
    -Not unflatteringly large and oversized
    -Meets safety standards
    -Provide adequate ventilation
    My search is over as the Mongoose Title full face meets all my needs. Available in two color options and multiple sizes, I think Mongoose has a winner with these Title helmets

    Just in case anyone is wondering, full-face helmets (and in fact all non-DOT helmets) are only tested and approved for SPEEDS UP TO 20mph...
    unless clearly stated otherwise. This is particularly helpful info for Ebike riders and those with scooters.

    I have rode on 2 wheelers since I was 4. Got my first motorcycle at 7. I’ve had a total 27 different motorcycles since, some street, some dirt, some Enduro. I lived in So Cal with my only transportation being a motorcycle. Traveled across America on a motorcycle. Rode BMX as a kit in the 80’s. So I have worn helmets my whole life and have worn them so much, when don’t have one on and I am on a bike/trike or even a go kart I feel strange. I have sold all my motorcycles but still have 4 helmets LOL. Helmets that fit right will improve your ride on a motorcycle, probably a ebike too….they reduce wind noise and that reduces rider fatigue and improves rider awareness.
    For riding Bicycles and Ebikes, I wear a Fox Drop Frame Pro. It’s not a full face, but it does have more coverage than a half shell and it does not have a cheap plastic buckle.
    I understand budgets and would rather someone where a helmet than not, but please spend money on a really good helmet. One bad head injury will change your life or end it, and it does not require speed for it to happen. Also, little kids that see adults with helmets will want to wear helmets too.
    Full face or open face….the more coverage you have, the better you are protected. It’s that simple…
    My Fox is a great helmet for me with MIPS, I do not race and mostly just ride in town. I NEVER ride without a helmet. If I ride down my driveway, I wear a helmet.
    Great video Kev

      My brother said it like this: "How much is your brain worth?" on buying a good helmet. I'm the same way with helmets, sans once where I simply up and forgot it until I got back home. still kicking myself on that one. I tend to leave the thing hanging on the handlebar just so I can't miss it (and had deviated from that habit when I forgot it).

    Just FYI: A lot of fullface (MX) helmets have only 1 or maybe 2 shell sizes and the padding dictates the size for head fit. They might have a xsmall -> medium shell and then large -> xlarge shell. The more padding the smaller the helmet size. Which is a lot of kids helmets look huge. But they have a lot of extra padding. :) Anyways, Once I found this out, I resized my MX helmet by simply ordering a smaller size liner. But, that is probably why the removable padding is labeled with the size. You might be able to interchange those liners in those shells.

    Do yourself a favor and compare that helmet to a legit helmet like a Leatt DH 1.0. The Leatt features more certifications (AS/NZS 2063:2008, ASTM F1952-10, EN1078, CPSC 1203), SLIGHTLY lighter at 859g, 360 turbine technology (impact zones for the skull, much like MIPS) and better positioned vents.

    I personally like to see at least a MIPS certification. That certification doesn't have to add to cost either if you shop carefully.

    would love to get one of these, even though my mtb experience is all easy trails. I've gone through a few helmets due to incompetent (or hostile) drivers, but haven't had the need for one on a trail yet. Gonna take me some time to get used to though, my go-to is a Giro Isode, since those are the helmets that have saved my bacon the most. I do like to bring a Bontrager Velocis for road rides though, since the isodes have severe mushroom effect visually.

    I would take a MIPs half shell helmet over a full face non-MIPs helmet any day of the week. A full face helmet helps protect your face from rocks but those kinds of injuries are much less common and almost certainly non-life threatening. A skull impact from a fall is more common and the direct impact of a non-MIPs helmets is far more likely to result in traumatic brain damage.

    Usually enjoy the content man but the info at the start of your video is just completely false. No local bike store is going to steer you into a full face over a half shell. If you ride bike park or a lot of jumps, then a nice full face is warranted. Just because it is a full face like this mongoose does not mean it is any more protective than a halfshell. It is all about the protection tech inside like MIPS or Trek's Wavecell and you should never cheap out on helmets. For instance a Smith Convoy MIPS is the same price as this and will do you way better in a crash. If you buy a helmet from a big box store you are just asking for a concussion.

    • @KevCentral
      @KevCentral  2 роки тому

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Regarding half shell vs full face recommendations we disagree 🙃. If someone is riding hard on rough trails a full face is recommended. I’ve been in bike shops and seen the recommendations, so it happens. The main reason is the facial protection - of which there is zero on a half shell.
      That said, Mips is great and that’s what I ride with - in a half shell helmet. I haven’t seen a mips full face for under $200

    • @jcoster19

      @@KevCentral I think a lot of it comes to skill and preference, out her in Colorado you barely see full faces outside the gnarliest trails. I always prefer my POC Tectral MIPS halfshell over my 100% Aircraft full face unless im doing lift service stuff. Yeah it was a $250 helmet and my full face was almost $400, but you really can't cheap out on your brain. I know Giro makes a MIPS full face for around $175, but even a non MIPS Fox Rampage is way more protective than this mongoose one for around the same price. Thanks for the reply

      @Todd66 2 роки тому +4

      Black helmets are no hotter inside than white helmets. I’ve actually watched a video where they tested the difference. It’s was negligible. Remember helmets have styrofoam inside, so that defeats the effects sun has on the helmets. It will be hotter to the touch, but inside the temps are the same.
      Here is a fun fact about the color black. Black sheds heat quicker than any other color. So on hot days, I wear black so I can cool off quicker. Stay out of direct sunlight of course. ;)

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 2 роки тому

      @@Todd66 While it is certainly true that black objects get rid of their heat slightly faster than other colors via radiation, they also absorb heat a lot faster and more of it. So if you are not going to be in the direct sun, black will radiate the heat away faster,
      BUT, with a caveat. That is, to the extent Styrofoam acts an insulator, it will also slow down the release of heat from your head into the mass of the helmet. I am pretty sure polystyrene is a very poor conductor (that is, is an insulator)
