- UPDATE: Bolt has new friends, loves eating fresh fruits, and has found his favorite spot in the barnyard-he's come so far since he arrived after surviving a mountain lion attack.
In case you missed it, Bolt came from a very loving home near the mountains where a hungry mountain lion went after him and his dear brother. His brother later passed away, but Bolt survived and his family knew he would be safest in our sanctuary.
He arrived heartbroken and shy, but has settled in so well at The Gentle Barn. He’s used to our schedule and routine, has bonded with the other animals, and loves the attention of the guests. He's gotten acupuncture for his arthritis and tendon issues, and EFT tapping from founder Ellie Laks to help with releasing his past trauma over the loss of his brother. He's doing phenomenal after beating the odds, overcoming his injuries, and learning he's safe at home with us 💚
The Gentle Barn is a non profit animal sanctuary with locations in Los Angeles, CA, Nashville, TN, and St. Louis, MO. We rescue neglected and traumatized animals from all circumstances, we rehabilitate them, and when they're ready we partner with them to heal people with the same stories of trauma. We rescue cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, emus, llamas, donkeys, and more. Hey everyone. Remember, goats are prey animals, mountain lions are predators. They are not evil monsters. They also deserve to be alive. I get that the goat would be "traumatized" by it, but it is nature after all. Are we going to start saving rabbits from eagles, fish from grizzly bears, mice from foxes, etc? Human cruelty is a different matter, but an animal needing to hunt to stay alive is part of the natural world.

If it was a wild goat which had survived a mountain lion, mankind has no moral responsibility to protect her. She has to be returned to wilderness.
Destroying forest land to create a sanctuary for herbivore wild animals is a way of destroying nature.
Btw, I am perfectly in agreement that abusing farm animals physically and taking away all their calves is bad and at least every 2nd or 3rd calf should be allowed to stay with their mother till they grow into adolescence. (As generally less than 50% of calves survive into adulthood in the wild and cow's/goat's brain is genetically programmed to accept that reality)
